70 Dodge Challenger, AMT or Revell?
TurboKitty replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Charger is a very nice kit. It doesn't have the textured vinyl roof molded in like on the '69. The Revell Challenger, if I remember right, is tooled from the diecast so it looks "off". The AMT goes together a little better and offers a Shaker hood as well as hardtop or convt variations depending on the kit you get. -
how to achieve these headlights gracefully?
TurboKitty replied to allecb's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When I did my R8, I used a few brushed on coats of Future to secure the tips within the drilled holes. Once that was dry, I carefully taped the strands flat against the inside of the body with a long piece of masking tape and trimmed it where needed with an xacto blade so the tape didn't show on the outside of the body. Then install the interior tub, and carefully collect the fibers from each side together (leave a little slack) and using some small wire ties or thin strips of tape, secure them together to make 1 bundle so you can install it in the illuminator kit. Because you won't use enough fiber for a snug fit in the illuminator sleeve, you'll need to use a small strip of electrical tape at the end where the fibers join inside the sleeve to build up width for a snug fit. At this time use a sharp razor blade to trim the end of the fibers flush so they are all the same length. You'll need to figure out where you want the on/off switch to go, I cut a small rectangle in the chassis and secured it with a few drops of glue from a hot glue gun. Some clear silicone will work fine too, I just wanted it to be removable. Then connect the rest of the illuminator kit, the battery fits good between the rear of the interior.tub and chassis with a little grinding here & there. I wish I would have taken pics when building it but hopefully you get the idea. -

Drilling tiny holes and using fiber optic strands with a single white LED looks great. It wasn't too hard to do but make sure you have a steady hand when drilling the holes & be patient, routing the fiber optic strands was a bit tricky. You can illuminate the tail lights this way too. Look for the Illuminator kit on ebay along with .25 mm clear optic fiber from the same seller. -
I am having the same problem, but I use my phone to scroll the site. Both on mobile version & full version any photobucket hosted pic is a blue question mark. If it helps my phone is an Android phone. On a computer it works fine but my laptop is broken so.... Could it possibly be an issue with Adobe Flash? I am able to see pictures that have been uploaded as an attachment at the bottom of a post though. This just started for me last week....

Just picked this up for my 1:1 today, it's a genuine SLP Ram Air H.O. hood. This exact hood was hanging on the wall at SLP, it's never been bolted on to any Firebird or Trans Am! From what I was told this is the first production hood that was made before they officially started converting cars into Firehawks (the WS6 hood was made from the same mold later on) and it was painted and hung on the wall to display along with other performance parts. The silver center, stripe, and SLP logo are all painted, that's no decal! I can't wait to get it bolted on, the plan is to have my Trans Am repainted over summer and the hood will be installed then. I'm going to fabricate an aluminum Ram Air intake box as well. I included a video of an episode of American Muscle Car that shows the hood hanging up at SLP (at around 2:25 in), and I got photos & some other documentation coming from SLP too which will be nice when we take the car to shows (The hood is dirty in the pics since it was stored in a garage, it's not scratched up)

those are a given, I'm probably going to get the K&N CAI but I'm trying to decide between a Magnaflow, Borla, Edelbrock, or a couple other exhaust systems. Might go with a 4" exhaust, definitely getting some Pacesetter longtube headers, an offroad Y pipe, and some slightly larger wheels & tires. I'm going to redo the interior as well, definitely the headliner since it sags a little LOL. Are '98+ Trans Am honeycomb taillights a direct replacement? I don't really like the "Lego" block look of the '93-'97s. -

Picked this up Saturday from a guy in Ohio, it replaced the '00 LeSabre that I bought from my parents earlier this year. It's a 1993 Pontiac Trans Am, LT1, auto, hardtop (no T-Tops). It had been in his family since new, always garage kept and it has less than 130k miles (driven less than 7k a year)! Just gave it a very thorough wash, wax and detail and she's looking mighty fine now. Just have to fix the pesky dent in the driver's side quarter panel and it will be getting a complete repaint over winter. We'll be getting a winter beater because this TA has never seen snow, we're gonna keep it that way LOL. I'm looking for some advice on some good performance mods for it, we'll be doing that over winter as well. This is so much better than our previous FWD "econobarge" LOL -
Brought her home this morning, no more Buick LeSabre for this girl LOL!! It's a '93 Trans Am with the 5.7L LT1 V8, auto, 3 owners and not a speck of rust. Zero accidents, super clean history & garage kept it's whole life. I'm on cloud nine :D

Looking forward to the Foose '68 Firebird & '67 Coronet R/T, they look pretty sweet. They reissued the '99 Mustang Cobra, '93 SVT Cobra, '85 Camaro Z28, '71 GTX, and '69 Charger Daytona too (in addition to some others). Is the Mini Cooper a new tool? http://downloads.hobbico.com/misc/rmx/2012-fall-new-releases.pdf

that is good to hear, I haven't entered a contest in a long time because the last one I went to (mind you this was years ago) I had a Revell '69 Charger R/T dropped and broken because children wouldn't stop messing around & trying to play with the models (nobody was supervising the table whatsoever). If that wasn't bad enough they were outside under a tree, so birds pooped on the table/models. Not a pleasant experience.....

I'm already getting a couple builds wrapped up and ready, definitely looking forward to this. Will the models be displayed indoors or outside in the hot sun?

prototype wheels
TurboKitty replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
what exactly do you need in order to make a set of 4 wheels? I have some 16" that I would love to have machined in aluminum (or another metal as long as it could be polished). -
