do wheels make or break your projects
TurboKitty replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
maybe to you but it is necessary to upgrade the wheels and tires in addition to the engine, suspension, brakes, etc when building one of these Pro Touring cars. Upgrading everything else and leaving the stock 14" or 15" wheels and tires on is just asking for trouble. -

Donk is a collective term for any older car that has to be raised in order for the wheels to fit. High risers = needed to be raised because the wheels are too big to fit without modification. The same goes for Boxes & Bubbles too, those are just a different year/body style of car that has also been raised. -

no offense to anyone but I think some of you are a little mistaken on what a DONK is. Donks are cars that actually have to have a lift kit installed in order to have the ridiculously large wheels not rub. Small wheels on a Donk are 22", and they can get as big as 30" last time I checked (there may even be some as big as 32" or 34" now, not sure). These are Donks: Just because a car has large wheels that does not make it a DONK. G-Machine and Pro Touring cars have to have larger than stock wheels because it is a part of them being upgraded with modern performance and handling. Usually Pro Touring cars have 17" or 18" fronts and 19" or 20" rears. These cars also don't have to be raised in order to fit these wheels, the wheels can fit in the wheel wells just fine save for maybe a mini tub. These are not Donks: Just felt the need to clarify, and of course we are all entitled to our opinions. Maybe this could help with your understanding of how they are so much different. Personally I think Donks are ridiculous and I am still waiting to see one topple over. I do love Pro Touring though, it's the best of two worlds : old muscle car style and looks but with modern performance and handling. I'd take one of those over a new "muscle car" any day. -
I am still interested in finding these metal SBC parts from Model Parts Specialties: intake, headers, cylinder heads, "350" valve covers, and fan. Please keep in mind I don't own a hobby shop full of rare and vintage kits so if you have some metal SBC parts to trade I am willing to buy outright or trade + $$ too, so that it's an equal value trade. Thanks

question about dupicolor color match
TurboKitty replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used the Duplicolor Perfect Match, and with every color so far it came out fine if sprayed properly. I use it over Rustoleum gray primer, which I let cure for a few days before painting with the Duplicolor. With this paint, make sure you spray it in several light mist coats to let the color build up, don't put on a single heavy coat. Also, this paint needs a clear coat to really shine, without it, it appears dull or semi gloss. Are you spraying the model from about 10 inches away? Doing it too close (or spraying too much on at one time) can make the paint build up quickly and it won't dry properly, causing some spots to appear cloudy or hazed. The weather you're painting in can make a difference too, if it is too cold or too hot it will affect how the paint cures on the plastic. If you can, make yourself a ventilated indoor painting booth, too much humidity can cause paint to craze too. Personally I have the best results when the temp is between 65 and 75 degrees. I hope this helps -
are they for a small block chevy? I would definitely be interested in a trade, sure. I don't have many parts but I'm more than happy to trade a kit or kits for what you have, I know this stuff can add up cost wise so I will make sure it's a fair trade. I'm also interested in door hinge kits, interior & engine photoetched detail sets, etc.

I have... this is a car that he had in the '80s that he doesn't currently own or have many pictures of. I asked if he had any pics of the interior or engine and since he didn't post any on Facebook, I am going to assume that he doesn't have any since he described some details to me in messages. I asked him if he had put the typical '80s style chrome dress up & performance stuff on it and he said yes, about $1,000 worth lol. So I'm thinking billet air cleaner, finned valve covers, braided stainless hoses, etc...... I'm sure you know what I mean I'm not going to count rivets as I know it will never be entered in a show, it will sit on a shelf somewhere in his house in a display case/small diorama I'm making for it. I just wanted to add detail to it, and metal parts is a nice addition. Due to the cost of the Scale Repro's engine kit (there is no way I'm spending nearly $40 on that) I will be getting the M/T dress up kit unless I can find one that says "350" like the picture I posted above. Besides the engine I had planned on opening the trunk and doors, but I need to get this done by Christmas so I'm not sure if I'll get everything I planned to do to it finished

Nice! This is definitely a kit you don't see built too often. There's a Lexus IS300 around here that almost has the same colors, it is a really dark blue (almost black) with bright green wheels, needless to say it is quite the head turner LOL.

Hmmm "Tamiya" seems to be branching out
TurboKitty replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's more than one term for the same or similar definitions......... "Balls to the wall" and "Balls out" are pretty much the same thing. Same goes for "straight out" or "full brass" , both different sayings for the same thing (basically full throttle or to accelerate). Anyway...... 30 seconds on ebay and I find these lol: -
well, no pics of my Riviera but I decided to strip the paint and modify the body a little. So far I've shaved the wipers and door handles so it will be sleeker overall, and I am modifying the rear bumper to add some exhaust outlets that are somewhat similar to what is found on the current Camaro. Hopefully it will be back in primer again tomorrow, followed by a repaint and possibly some different stripes this time around. I did want to give a shout out to Chuck Most, who was very kind and sent me the AMT '66 Riviera glass and exhaust that I needed, hopefully I can glue them both in this next week Thanks again Chuck!

TurboKitty replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've always known it as a pilot's term for full throttle, since both throttle handles had balls at the top. Moving them forward all the way to increase speed meant the "balls" were closest to the firewall. Anyway too bad these are shopped, it would have been neat to do the Roswell kit. There's probably something like that out already but I've never looked lol. -

Do you know what "balls out" actually means, or are you just nitpicking? -
you wouldn't want to get rid of them by any chance would you LOL? I do plan on painting the engine, it will be Chevy engine blue. I did expect some cleanup with the parts so luckily I have some Bondo spot putty that should work. I will be adding a fair amount of detail so more than likely the front suspension's plastic will be getting replaced or reinforced with either metal tubing or added styrene. I'm still waiting to receive the Monte Carlo kit I bought, can't wait to dig into it. This engine is gonna cost more than what I paid for the kit shipped but it will be worth it I will have to hunt down some more parts, it will be getting a lot of photo etched detail too.

awesome look what I found! http://www.scalerepr...d92c5ab005e8f5b It's a little pricey but it will work perfectly. Or if I went with a plastic engine I can get these too: http://www.modelcarg...22&idcategory=5 I may have a smallblock Chevy in my parts box somewhere, but I want it to be extra detailed and special so I will probably be getting the Scale Repro's 350 engine kit.

I need to find a detailed Chevy 350 V8 for my brother's '80 Monte Carlo that I'm building. I haven't seen pics of the actual engine yet but he modified it with high performance parts (not sure exactly what, but he said he spent about $1,000 and this was back in the '80s lol). I would also like to get some aftermarket 1/25 parts for the engine, so that it's dressed up like it would have been on the real car. I really would love to find real metal parts, or something really detailed like a Ross Gibson engine but the only 350 offered is the "ROADent 350 TPI" and I don't think it is modified the same way. Anyone know of any aftermarket engines or even accessory parts for a 350 Chevy? Any tips/info will be extremely appreciated, I am going all out on this build so the more detailed the better. I want to make something similar to this:

Some unreal Ebay prices.
TurboKitty replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Doesn't this make you wonder why there aren't more people listing stuff on emodelcars though? Yes I know eBay has the market place, but that would (hopefully) change if the word was spread about emodelcars. Then people wouldn't have to bite the bullet and pay such ridiculous prices just to get the kit or parts they want. Fewer people giving in and buying from these types of sellers will cause those sellers to lower prices (again, hopefully) in order to try to bring business back. Hit 'em where it hurts.........the wallet. -
those are perfect! is this a hard kit to find? The only one I found on ebay is $44.99, I really hate to have to buy that just for the wheels LOL because I would probably turn around and resell it or trade it for something else, but it's important that I get it as accurate as possible. If all else fails then I will try to get the '36 Ford 5 window coupe wheels. I'm just so happy that they are actually available!
