  1. I've told him that there are plenty of guys on here that would be more than happy to teach him some tricks of the trade so to speak LOL. I will get some pics of his Beretta and post it as a WIP thread for him Saturday. It's funny because I have several Charger bodies laying on a shelf that were painted a couple months ago that he asked about, wondering what they were for, and I showed him the ones I hadn't finished yet (lack of motivation among other things). I'm thrilled that he has taken an interest in it, the ball has been rolling with his Beretta at a faster pace than I do my own builds with so that has me wanting to finish mine even more LOL . I showed him a handful of Under Glass threads, and he was amazed at the craftsmanship (I explained what kitbashing and scratchbuilding are, and used one of John Teresi's builds as an example - his jaw dropped). It's sort of like a whole new world of possibilities with plastic, since he isn't exactly allowed to play the Xbox 360 all day (he is being home schooled now for different reasons). Regardless he has done well on his first kit so far and I am very proud . I think I will have to make some sort of a paint booth since here in Michigan it is getting too cold to spray paint outside. Also to Kris, we live in Adrian, about a half hr from Toledo, OH. I see you live in Westland, I think that's 45 min to an hour away but I might be wrong (I have an Aunt that lives there - if you've seen a gold '71 GTO w/ a Judge spoiler & chrome Cragar Super Trick wheels driving around or going to cruise ins then that is more than likely her and her husband ). It would be great for him to join a club, there is one in Jackson but we haven't been able to go for months now unfortunately.
  2. Jesse builds everything on his bikes with the exception of the engines, which IIRC he gets from Harley. The Teutels (or whatever their last name is) get their motors, tanks, fenders, wheels, and frames from outside vendors and they just put it all together and tweak it a bit to go with whatever lame theme the bike is. Jesse James all the way, the man's a master welder and frankly I couldn't care less about what he does with his personal life, it doesn't matter it's not my business, but his bikes are wicked. Especially the El Diablo Sturgis Special, (love the bat wing rims):
  3. soak them in bleach for an hour, then scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse clean.
  4. well, I've wanted to build a garage scene as a sort of photo backdrop, I just haven't gotten the chance to do it yet
  5. I just tried on a picture frame I coated about 6 months ago. Used 1000 grit to start, then 4000, and then 6000 grit (with soapy water each), followed by a buff with Meguiars polish and sealed with Ultimate wax. It is super slick now! But I have to agree with shucky, it does dry a bit too thick. It's not thin like Future. It's thick because once it's dry it's supposed to equal a triple application of glaze/varnish, but with one application thus the name of course. This stuff is great to create realistic old thick windows with for dioramas too. Spread it on wax paper and once it's dry just cut it to shape.
  6. yep, it is a popular clear glaze/varnish for crafts like decoupage, card making, coating ceramics with a glaze without the need to fire it on, etc
  7. I use this stuff for my other art projects. It is pretty good, but it is a little slow drying so cover it otherwise dust will stick to it and it will not be easy to polish off. I also use the brush on glaze for many non model car projects and it dries rock hard & smooth w/ a great shine. It works perfectly over painted items too. I've used the spray to cover real flowers to make necklaces and earrings to sell also. It works best when applied in several thin mist coats from about 10" away. It is great stuff but a a word of advice, do not confuse this stuff with clear resin spray (which is also used to coat crafts with a clear hard glaze). That type of spray releases heat as it cures and it will warp any plastic it's sprayed on (I tried it to see what it would do to model car parts - it ruined all of the test parts I sprayed. Even with Future applied it still warps the plastic).
  8. Over the last couple days I was able to sell a good # of the ones I had, I only have 9 kits left now so they went on ebay last night with Buy It Now's & Free Shipping to hopefully make 'em sell fast. Thank you all for the references, I will be rebuilding my collection over winter hopefully so I've bookmarked a lot of them because they all have some pretty good deals
  9. I'm in the Southeast corner of Michigan, a good 4-5 hrs away from those two I think but I will email them if I can find their contact info. I have 20 complete/unbuilt kits left and a handful of started kits or 1 or 2 that are missing a couple parts. My emodelcars listings ended but I do have them on ebay now at least.
  10. oh there is already some I regret selling, but I keep telling myself as soon as we get the car (fingers crossed) I can actually rebuild my collection pretty quickly. I might not have to sell every last one, so that's good at least. I do have around 10 kits that I started and definitely plan on finishing, so those will not be going anywhere - I need something to do through winter LOL.
  11. there is a flea market in the next town over but to rent a space it's $25 for the weekend for the smallest space available, a 9x9 booth. I'd do that but they are not open during the week at all, only on Sat and Sun. They close for the season very soon, and with only about 35 kits left to sell, I wish I had more stuff ready to fill the rest of the booth (I do, but I'd run into the problem of getting it over there). It's something I have wanted to do, but just couldn't swing it this year. Luckily I already sold a junkyard lot of 5 kits that were missing parts and/or bodies. I got a reply from 1 of the people I emailed who does buy collections and hopefully the ball will be rolling on those soon. So far so good
  12. if I could, I would totally spring for an AMC Javelin kit and enter this. Will be watching from the sidelines
  13. If you donate to my car fund I will donate my models, how's that sound Nick? I still have a post in my local craigslist, but every time I post in a city that isn't really close to mine it gets flagged because some people are flag Nazis . I will wait to hear back to the people I emailed, but if they aren't interested I will probably have to bite the bullet and list them on ebay & emodelcars and hope for the best.
  14. will do for sure, thank you. Ok, I have sent an email to Jim from JimNOhio and Tom from Spotlight Hobbies.
  15. I have listed nearly all of the kits on ebay individually and again in small similar lots, and some on emodelcars. Very little of them have sold. I compare prices on everything I sell and 9 times out of 10 it is the cheapest or almost the cheapest one listed. I'm in a time crunch so I can no longer take the time necessary to list these all individually, pack them up, and ship them to various places on different days. I've done that up until this point and sold a little over half of my collection. If I had the time, I would continue to do that but I need to have the rest of the money to buy my mom's car by the end of the month otherwise she is going to be forced to sell it to someone else. Also I am aware that selling a collection means it's not going to be at retail. I spent probably around $500 incl tax and shipping on these kits, and of course I'm not going to get nearly that much in return. That's common sense LOL. As for craigslist, I have set aside specific times on different days and waited for the people who were supposed to come and buy them to show up. Nobody showed. I've sold a lot already (its what I do to make extra cash on the side.....) but these are what's left and they have to be gone within the next 2 weeks. I really want to avoid ebay because for each item you list, you get hit with fees three separate times (listing fee, final value fee for the item AND shipping, and then what PayPal takes out). Listing all of these individually will probably result in well over an additional $50 or more in fees.
  16. LOL well I was going to go to the Toledo NNL but it's a long way to walk without a car . I will try Jim (JimnOhio) and see what he says, I know I don't have a ton of kits and most aren't that valuable, but every little bit helps. I will probably end up putting it on ebay and hoping for the best, the final value fee is gonna suck though. That's what I'm trying to avoid really, ebay's fees LOL.
  17. I'm not really wanting to hold a yard sale, I don't exactly have a lot of other stuff to put in it. I'd also need to go and buy a bunch of tables to put stuff on, and there's no guarantee that all the kits would sell. I've put them on craigslist too and I've had 4 no shows already. I'll take some pics and get the link for the album in a few.
  18. I am minimizing my collection and I've listed several on both emodelcars and ebay with not as many being sold as needed to be. I am wondering if there is anyone here that buys collections? Or can you direct me to someone who does? My collection is not too big but I am running out of time to sell them (still trying to save to buy my mom's car by the end of this month) and I need to find someone who will take all the kits I have, not just a couple here or a couple there. Most are complete and unbuilt, some are started or nearly finished, and there are a couple that are for parts only due to missing bodies (only 2 kits). I will send a pic of these to whoever is seriously interested. ** I am not trying to sell them on this site, I am only wanting to know who I can get in contact with who buys collections. **
  19. one of my favorite sites for 1:1 car or truck stripe reference, this link is only for Ford vehicles but you can go to the home page and choose a variety of different makes and models: http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/ford.htm
  20. I've always wanted to build this concept from Rinspeed. It's called the "zaZen", and it has Swarovski crystals everywhere. Including being embedded in the self healing polyurethane clear coat, accenting the head and tail lights, and wheels. There are a lot of high tech materials used on it from the holographic clear top to the gel used in the seats. Some may not like the white and orange theme, but I love it and would love to either build it or see a kit of it become available: More pics and info here: http://www.rinspeed.com/pages/cars/zazen/pre-zazen.htm http://www.rinspeed.com/pages/cars/zazen/pre-zazen-fotos.htm
  21. especially since it's at the bottom of the ocean, so you ruin your car every time.
  22. Lots of kits listed on ebay, minimizing my collection!

  23. LOL I can pretty much say the same as Futurabat, only the opposite kit wise. I have multiple Testors Charger kits and I love them, they are pretty detailed and make a nice model that looks very accurate when completed. I haven't had the chance to built the Lindberg kit yet though, but I will take other's word for it that it is a great kit.
  24. I've found that the black BMF does not stick as well as the chrome stuff. If you have some good masking tape, apply that around the windows, smooth it into crevices the best you can w/ a toothpick or Q tip, and use a sharp Xacto blade to carefully trim the tape off of the parts that need to be black. Once this is done, make sure any part that does not need to be black is masked, and then carefully brush or spray on some flat black to the trim that isn't masked off. It will look much better than the black BMF (which is too shiny) and it won't have streaks or reddish/brown tint in it like if you "draw" it on with a black permanent marker.
  25. And that's your opinion. Beauty of opinions is that we are all entitled to one and nobody's is right or wrong
