amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus

OUTSTANDING ! Round2 keeps outdoing themselves with these newly-tooled-bodies kits ( Grumpy's 1972 Vega P/S ; 1970 Camaro Z~28 non-R.S. , and ; now this long sought-after beauty ! ) . Now , how about the 1973-1974 Charger , 1973-1974 Challenger , 1973-1974 Barracuda , and... 1971 Road Runner (hold the Liver-Failure Yellow plastic) ! Thanks much for the photos and text , Tim !- 599 replies

1964 Pontiac GTO NHRA B stock competitor
1972coronet replied to MarkJ's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice save on that purloined Poncho powerplant ! That work alone is worth a million in prizes ! I remember building that GTO when it was new (1984 ? 1985 ?) , but haven't attempted another build of it ( not out of disinterest ; just haven't bought one in 35 years ) . But , I digress... Keep up the outstanding workmanship ! -
Yes , the 'olive green' edition box . I bought it from eBay during the time when the stock version wasn't being issued ; the Fast & Furious kit being the only version readily-available at that time ( no , thanks ) . I've been toying with the idea of buying the new Round2 edition , if for nothing else for the better decals , tyres , and white platic ; and , to support Round2's continued efforts to bring restored kits which many believed were lost to the annuls of time . That halo top trim is the reason why I've been putting-off building my example . I don't trust my skills yet... I'd keep the kit's "generic" Mark IV engine , and find a resin 4-speed . I'll have to research if the 4 speed console is the same ; pedals could come from the parts box .

I received these gorgeous 1971 Plymouth 'W11' Wheel Covers last night (see link) , and they look perfect ! My plan is use them on the MPC 1971 Road Runner eventually ( though these 'covers aren't listed as being available for the Road Runner nor the GTX , I'm going to use them anyhow ---- they're my favourite wheel covers ! ) Highly recommended parts ! : 1/25 1971 Plymouth Valiant Hubcaps (4) (C4U55V3BR) by macstian (shapeways.com)

Nice , nice , nice ! I have a life-long love of the 1970-1972 Monte , especially the SS-454 model . The colour choices are perfect ! I have one of the c.2003 issues of that kit as well . It's on the back burner for a couple of reasons : 1.) I feel a compulsory need to add the halo vinyl top 2.) I'm thinking about converting it to a 402 / 4-speed As great as those late 90's AMT 'renaissance' kits are , they aren't without some construction woes ---- typically component-interference issues ( windscreen-to-dashboard ; door panels-to-exterior door edge ) and/ or suspension which doesn't sit-proper ( typically looking as if there's an overloaded trunk ) . But , I digress... Yours looks fantastic ! Keep 'em coming ~

New round of photos , much better than the 'Honeycomb Hideout' photos . No sunlight today in "always sunny" California , so no luck with the lighting ( I'm not well-heeled enough for some expensive setup like some of you folks have ) . Hopefully these new photos are satisfactory... if not , then I have no viable recourse . Enjoy ! P.S. : I again seek "cheers and jeers" for my efforts .

HAHAHAHA ! Surely felt like a kid again when I was taking those photos ! I'd planned to take some outdoors photos today , but the overcast weather prevented that . I live in an apartment ; the only place where I'm able to take photos is outside on the patio --- otherwise we get the "lights-out-after-dark-bed" photos . I'll see what tomorrow brings... I know that the natural light will play-off the subtle pearl finish .

Anyone seen a 75/76 Duster grill?
1972coronet replied to DusterJoe's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Oh , wow ! It IS ! Haha ! As many times as I've looked at not only the 1:1 grille of the 1975-1976 Duster and Valiant , but also the MPC grille , I never noticed that ! Someone must've had Pontiac on their mind when they cut the tooling ! Haha . Oh , well... -

1972coronet replied to DusterJoe's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I snagged that grille as soon as it hit the 'Bay . That Jim Cushman version has the headlamps and turn signal / parking lamps covered by block-off plates . I'll check around and see if I have a spare 1975 (1976) Duster grille . -
One of the BEST kits from MPC ever , especially of a foreign car . Round2 ---- pretty please with cherries on top , reissue this kit ! Just remember to omit the nudie bar tint on the glass , and to pitch those ancient B.F. Goodrich tyres .

Thanks much ! I , too , was surprised by how well those headlamps came out . I didn't paint the interior nor the chassis , as I didn't want to deviate too far from the promo 'theme' . IF the interior or chassis had been painted or in need of repair , then I'd have done something with those components as well . I really wanted to paint the interior a nice cranberry red , but I didn't want to separate the dashboard from its fixed location . Thanks again !

Oh , okay ! Haha ! Believe it or not , there were two lights on in my (small) bedroom when I snapped those gripping photos ! My bedroom's on the northside of the apartment complex ; the Sun set at 16:50 , so there was no natural light available when I took the pics at 19:30 . Perhaps I'll get some A.M. photos in tomorrow (around 10:30 or so) .

What lights ?

Bought this as an unassembled promo . One of its prior owners took it apart (cleanly) , and started some body work ( separation marques on the quarters ; moulding dips on bonnet ) . It was originally a factory silver metallic , and I wanted to keep that theme . I rescribed the panel lines ; filled-in the "dents" on the bonnet ; then it was primer-sand-primer until the "dents" were feathered-out (Tamiya White Putty , followed by red oxide filler-primer on the bonnet only ; then Tamiya Light Grey Primer overall ). The colour coat is Tamiya Silver Leaf (aerosol) which was followed by Tamiya Pearl Clear Coat (aerosol) and finally Testors Enamel Gloss Coat (aerosol) . Perfect amount of gloss , close to factory finish . Molotow pen for the trim around the windscreen , backlight , quarter lights , and door trim . Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent was used on the wheel covers , panel lines , windscreen trim , backlight trim , and around the emblems and side marker lamp bezels ; grille , too . Tail lamp lenses were treated to Molotow (for reflective properties) . Bumpers' rub strips were simply scraped of their plating , as the bumpers were plated-over black plastic (perfect !) Headlamps were painted with a mix of Tamiya Clear Blue with Tamiya Gloss Clear ; Black Panel Line Accent was used to 'separate' them from their bezels . So , in other words , I tried some new 'tricks' with this bad boy . I still have to do some touch-ups here and there , but it's done ! Compliments and critiques welcomed . *** EDIT : ALL-BUT-ONE PHOTO DELETED --- SEE NEWLY-ADDED IMAGES IN RECENT POST .***

That was a nice link to a cool bio (see original reply in Casey's post) . The Pacer was reissued a few years ago , and it included the stock and the custom parts . I don't know / recall if Round2 had to find / restore the stock parts' tooling in order to reissue that Pacer (?) . The earlier Matador Coupe custom with the stock headlamps isn't too bad ; the "blocked" front iteration looks okay as well . The Pinto is a recent reissue as well ; firstly in stock form , followed by the Pintera issue (not sure if stock parts are included in that issue , as I don't have that one ) . I'm assuming that the Gremlin , Capri , and Mustang II were irreversibly modified ?

Your dream hot rod
1972coronet replied to bamadon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1940 Ford Pickup ( F1 ) with : Olds Rocket ( late 50's engine... 394 ? ) with a single 4 barrel ; manual-shift Hydra-Matic . Disc brakes (front) ; 9" rear with ~ 3.50 gear . Chromed steel wheels with 'Spider' centres ; pinstripe white wall tyres . -
I've never had the MPC version of the 1971-1972 Chevelle kit , so I can't speak to any inaccuracies . As far as the AMT 1969 ; 1970-1972 Chevelles : I've had the 1969 (convertible , most-recently) , the 1970 ( a commissioned build ) , and the 1972 ( a few of those ) , and I never noted any proportional-inaccuracies , but I'm not intimately-familiar with the lines of the 1:1 ( i.e. , I've never scrutinised them ) . My main complaint about them --and most kits of that era-- is the lack of engine compartment details (chiefly , the 1966 & earlier brake master cylinder , if there's even one present ! ) .
-
Certainly you are not alone in wanting for the MPC 1971 Road Runner to make a return (last produced in c.1990 ; reissued --with 80's wheels-- in 1987) . Ostensibly , AMT was going to modify the tooling to make ( re-make ?) the Petty 1971 Belvedere / Satellite NASCAR iteration ----- that was in c.1995 , and it never appeared .Perhaps the body was irreversibly-modified and "clustered" up in the process ? The 1:1 car (the orange one with painted rear bumper) you exhibited is a 1972 . The Elastomeric option was a 1971-only option on the B-bodies . A 100% newly-tooled 1971-1972 Road Runner would be fantastic ! NOT based-upon the decent-but-long-in-the-tooth Monogram 1971 Satellite / GTX / Fast Food & Furious kit .
-
Nice , clean build of one of my favourite kits ! Truly time for a reissue of this kit (maybe a modified-reissue with parts to build a 1971 as well !) . I like that it has the LS-6 and Cowl Induction parts from the 1970 edition . I've built two examples of "What If...? 1972 LS-6 phantoms ( parts box brake booster and master cylinder rounded the otherwise-barren engine compartment) . How about it , Round2 ? Time for this bad boy to return ! A decal sheet with SS stripes *and* Heavy Chevy marques would be great !

Are you speaking Hot Rod in its traditional sense , or can it be from any era ?
