1969 Camaro ZL-1 Headers
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One photo of it is included in the first post . The hood was called "Stilleto" or something as such ; not a "Stinger" nor an "L-88" ; definitely a unique piece ! Here's the photo again : It's "71" LeMans Blue ,and is a column-shift TH 400 ! -
1969 Camaro ZL-1 Headers
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ha ha ... I was "hiding" my purchase until tonight ; hiding it in my car like a little kid , or a husband trying to hide his "unnecessary" purchase . I was again perusing the photos of the Fred Gibb "tribute" car ; you're right about its headers' flanges . I want to replicate that car as close as possible ; some of that will be easy (thanks to *someone* whose Spyder wheels will fit the bill perfectly ) ; and some will be not so 100% . I'll have to use the hood from the MPC "White Lightening" 1969 Trans Am kit , as that's the one on the "1:1" car . I'm sure that mod's will be necessary ... *grumph* Thanks for your input and guidance ! -
1969 Camaro ZL-1 Headers

Cool ! Y'know , I haven't even opened it yet ... ha ha ha ... I just assumed that cast iron manifolds were standard fare ! Thanks , Casey ! -
I just bought one of the Revell ZL-1 COPO Camaro kits , and my intention is to replicate a column-shift TH 400 , SS/DA version (see attached photo) . Where can I find a good set of big block 'X' and 'F' body headers for this kit ? I already have two excellent resin-cast TH 400 transmissions from B-N-L Resins ; one for this Camaro , and one for the COPO Nova (SS/EA) . Highly recommend BNL's parts ! -? Underchassis Headers : 440 A-Body ?-
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
While Fenderwell-Exit headers were most-common (probably 95% of the time at least) , there were a couple of outfits back in the day who made Underchassis-Exit headers for 383 / 440 Darts and Barracudas ; "J.R. Headers" and "Iggy's Muffler" , with the latter being the shop which Mr Norms used , at least on their 1967 GSS 383 Dart (which was converted from a Slant Six powered '67 GT Dart) . I've even seen a couple of examples of Fenderwell Headers on 273 and 340 powered Darts and Barracudas . Not sure why a small block car received the butchery for fenderwell-exit headers ... I really don't want to rob my coveted Jo-Han '64 Super Stock Dodge of its headers . I did manage to find a "parts car" Dick Landy '68 SS/EA Dart on eBay (via an email to one of the sellers I do business with ; an unadvertised kit) whose body was missing and its interior was cannibalised , but all of its engine / exhaust / chassis parts were still untouched ( !! !! ) . Thanks to all of you whom have replied . -
Red Interiors....Difficult?
1972coronet replied to 10thumbs's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mike and Andy , those interiors are perfect ! In my haste to reply , I'd neglected to mention --it's really an addition to Harry's , et al. , replies-- that , given the same top colour coat , that varying the base coats' colours will also provide the desired shades ; for instance : dark grey for the "carpet" , light(er) grey for seats / door panels , and perhaps white for the glossy parts (dash frame , primarily) . This way , you can utilise just one can of top-colour coat , but change its appearance by employing varied base-colour ("primer") coats. Good luck and have fun ! -
The "E58" 360 was available with the Hang 10 model . The only limiting factor was that all Hang 10's were console-shift automatics , regardless of engine ; however , I wouldn't be surprised to find that Chrysler built one or two special order 4 speed models (which would naturally execute the console , as no console / manual trans A-bodies were built after 1969 for U.S. or Canada consumption). For 1975 there was a similar interior option for the Duster . Actually , it may be the exact interior trim / colour combo as the Hang 10 ... "Custom" , was its name , IIRC .

At the risk of being contenteous ; the "(1975-1976) Dodge Dart Sport" kit which is the most-recent restored-updated-reissued , was , at least initially , hearalded as a "One Run of Fun" kit before being backdated to the 1971 tooling of the 1971 Demon 340 annual . Sounds like a "reissue" to me . Truthfully , I hope that the pending pentagramme paradigm is based-off of the late-90's-origins AMT 1971 Duster 340 , albeit with better windshield , backlight and quarter windows ... and better windshield wipers ... and a non-A/C option for the engine ... and ...

Red Interiors....Difficult?
1972coronet replied to 10thumbs's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Years ago , I built the Jo-Han 1964 Hemi Charger Dodge Super Stock kit . I sprayed the interior with Testors Flat Red ; then , I buffed the seats and dash pad with a soft tissue . The results were spot-on . The key to red interior -- in my opinion and in practise -- is to contrast its brightness with enough black ( interior door panel lines , primarily ) and enough chrome (interior door handles , window crank handles , etc. ) to pare-back on the POP ! of the red-on-white colour scheme . Be certain to darken exterior door , trunk , trim , etc. , recesses ; and , if it helps , add some subtle red stripes on the car's body and / or employ "Red Line" tyres . -
'Trumpeter' Panel Scriber
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Chris - That's a great idea ! Now I know where all of those plaque-picks go ... hopefully my dentist isn't a plastic fanatic . Mr. Obsessive - Thanks much for your input . That Trumpeter tool looks like a solid piece ; I'm glad that it's a good choice . Thanks to both of you for your replies ! Looks like I'm going to try both ; buy the Trumpeter , and bum the "previously enjoyed" dental picks from my dentist . -
I was thinking about this exact subject last night ! It was alleged to have an April 2014 release ; however , there's zero mention of it on Round2's website ... Earlier in this very thread , someone alluded to the cancellation of the original restored release (i.e. , the Demon being back-dated from its present 1975-1976 'Sport version) , and instead become a modified-reissue in a fashion similar to the old MPC-come-AMT 1970 Super Bee (e.g. , MPC 1970 annual body with AMT's 1968-1969 Road Runner , et al. , components ; a "factory kit-bash" if you will) . So , another "factory kit-bash" is the latest rumour . In this instance , the MPC 1971 Demon 340 body is alleged to be 'bashed' with the AMT 1971 Duster 340 . However , to what extent , I have no idea . Lettuce hope that the 1971 Demon kit sees the light of day , soon !

It seems that either the LHS's don't 'care' to carry panel scribers , or that they quickly sell-out of them ; either way , it's frustrating . So , whilst trolling 'the web' , I found the Trumpeter Panel Scriber via Model Roundup ; see link below : http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/tsm-9912.htm Any-one use this particular scribe ; and if so , is it a good tool ? Please share your cheers and / or jeers with us here . Thanks

I am pleased that the cataract procedure was a success , Mike ! Your HemiCuda is coming along nicely ; great job on the wheel lip mouldings ! Have yourself a super week , Mike .

Revell Customer Service
1972coronet replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Running Production Change perhaps ? Maybe they're fixing the tooling or packaging process ; this would understandibly take some time to get up & running . I'm not saying this to dimish your anger and anxiety . It's an expensive kit to be certain ! I'm just introducing a hypothetical scenario . -
HA HA HA ! Glad you caught that one .

"Take care of your body , and your body will take care of you." -Keith Richards I used to paint the numerals individually on 25th and 24th scale dashboards , using freakin' toothpicks ! Now I'm lucky if I can even see the unpainted as-cast details ! Arthritis , pinched nerves , herniated discs and failling-through-age eyesight have been my deterrents deom building and drawing ; work and its stresses only exasberate the problem . Oh , well , at least I get a week-long sabbatical from work in about three weeks ! As a life-long visual artist , eye loss or even loss of eye sight are my biggest concern ; this is followed closely by loss of the use of my arms / hands / fingers. My left eye's muscle(s) didn't fully-develop , so at age 4 I had to wear corrective lens glasses to strengthen that muscle . Now , 40 years later , I feel pain in my left eye . Nothing constant nor chronic ; probably a compensatory reaction to my right eye aging 'normally' . Every 6-8 months I get facet pain block injections in my lumbar , and alternately , cervical regions . Just had one of those injections yesterday at 1030 ; this is number 2-of-3 in-a-weelky-series . The best thing about the first two days after receiving these corticosteroid injections ? I recognise *maybe* 4-5 hours of sleep the first night or two ! Turned-in at 2330 last night , and woke-up at 0315 today ! But , the injections do work ; "it gets worse before it gets better" . So , yeah ... -? Underchassis Headers : 440 A-Body ?-
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for your prompt reply , Chuck ! I'm kind of leaning toward applying the Landy decals to the new Hemi Dart ; then I can pirate its 440 headers for another project . Thanks again . -
I've an inquiry about the underchassis headers in the latest release of the 1968 Dart GTS / Hemi kit : I realise that the headers are for the Hemi engine ; however , would these work as well -- without modifications -- on the 383 / 440 engine ? I know that the Dick Landy SS/EA '68 Dart has big block A-body underchassis headers , but I don't want to pirate my Landy Dart just for its headers . If the Hemi's headers don't / won't work , are resin versions of the Landy SS/EA headers available ? Thanks

Scott "Rock Action" Asheton , drummer for Ann Arbor's own Psychedelic Stooges , passed away at age 64 on 15th March : http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/17/showbiz/music/obit-stooges-scott-asheton-dies/ Still kicking myself for missing out on their 2007 L.A. tour . That was the last show of theirs in the Los Angeles area with both of the Asheton brothers ( Ronnie Asheton , Scott's older brother , was the Stooges' original guitarist ; he passed away in 2009 ) . I've long dreaded the days when all of my favourite artists would pass on ; today I'm realising my fears . From Andy Warhol in 1987 , to Scott Asheton , and eveyone in between , the days have come . Rest In Peace , Scottie ! Photo of the "Dum Dum Boys" in action at Rodney "Mayor of the Sunset Strip" Bingenheimer's English Disco , c.1974.

Fill the spare tyre with concrete or water ! This is an old Stock / Super Stock trick from the 1960's . For that matter , even the transverse-mount muffler on 1963-1965 Coronet / Savoy / Belvedere 'Stockers were filled with concrete or Pb by the car's owners / operators . This is one sweet project , Tommy ! As many times as I have seen that Tamiya 1966 Volkswagen , and have perused its contents , I have not yet dedicated my-self to purchasing one . You , my friend , have changed my mind ! Looks like I will be adding this to my "must have" list . Keep up the excellent work !

I'm wanting to build a replica 1970 SS-RS 396 Camaro , but with a 'catch' : I want for it to have either the base model hub caps or deluxe wheel covers . See photos below ... Deluxe Wheel Covers Hub Caps (14" wheels on an SS model)

1/25 Revell '13 Mustang Boss 302
1972coronet replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Putting things in perspective regarding "molded-in wipers" and the whatnot ; back in late 1986 , our own Tim Boyd reviewed the then-new 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe . That was a state-of-the-art kit for its time ! It was leaps and bounds above the offerings from every other U.S. kit manufacturer ; yet , today , this same kit is now considered a "Basic Builder" !!! Tim , please feel free to chime in here and correct me if you feel I need be ( ) . I remember that Tim's fix to the 1987 Thunderbird kit's ride height was to oval-out the wheelbacks ! Not really a good idea on these newer crop of more-chassis-detailled-orineted kits (brake rotors / calipres were but a dream back in 1986 on a U.S. kit !) , but that technique worked great for the time it was done in . -
~Pontiac OHC 6 : Show Me Yours~
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well , I received this kit today at 1545 HRS (PST) . Upon perusing its contents , I was plesantly surprised ! Certainly , this was only the kit's second issue ; originally a 1969 Annual , gussied-up nine years later for a "modified reissue" in 1978 . Truly , I bought it primarily for its tyres , wheels (Spyders !) ,side pipes , and its cool Pontiac OHC 250 cube six (erroniously referred to as a "225 Inch" in the instructions) . Well , I'm so impressed by its clean casting (and virtually zero flash !) and better-than-expected details , that I'm going to build the car as a mild custom ("Day 2") from the 1969-era ! -
"Yes" , that's a nice one . I should have given credit to the author of my quote ; however , I didn't want to "pat my-self on the back" . It was something I wrote back on Sat , 12th Sept 1999 at ~1430 HRS .
