AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I haven’t been at my bench in a long while. I just bought a new house, and spent a while doing some renovations. Now that I have a beautiful room in the basement for my new model room, I plan on getting some old projects finished. Hopefully I’ll start setting it all up next week. I bought a bunch of items from Scott at Futurattraction, and plan on a couple of drag cars with his stuff. By the way, I’ve never seen nicer wheels and tires that Scott supplied me with. The parts are well worth the money, and I can’t wait to get started. Haven’t been building for almost a year now. You know how it goes….not building for a while, and all these ideas come to mind. -

I think it was a Z28 in 1:24 scale? -
AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro

How about the Monogram 69 Camaro, compared to the AMT? That Monogram (white drag car on the box) looks out of proportion. -
AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Now it’s coming back to me. It’s just whenever I saw a 69 Camaro, the only choice I remember was the Revell. Until AMT released their version of it. I have a few of the Revell kits, red, blue, and white styrene. Definitely going to pass on the AMT. -
AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro

Yes. I completely forgot about the 67 Chevelle. I have both in the stash. That rear fascia offered on the pro street version isn’t the prettiest. I even grabbed the original “stock” rear bumper from the blue Revell kit in case I ever got around to building that car. Actually I tossed it in the pro street box so it will be easy to find. -
AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I kinda figured. The Revell kit is a nice kit, but I was watching one of those Fast and Furious movies earlier, and it had the YSC Camaro in it, and I saw AMT had produced that kit. The main reason I asked, is, it seemed odd to me, that two model makers have the rights to the same year car. And maybe the AMT was a decent model. Since Lindberg kits are now AMT, and you can find both names out there, with the same model, but I don’t remember ever seeing too many, if, any kits both made by AMT and Revell. Is the 69 Camaro the first that is molded by both makers? -
Would anyone like to provide some opinions on the AMT 69 Camaro, compared to the Revell car? I have a few of the Revell versions, and plan on a stock Yenko build, and a drag car build as well. I was planning on grabbing an AMT kit, but if it’s not really worth doing so, I’d just build the Revell kits. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Brush painting Tamiya acrylics?
Brutalform replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It appears that he is using a Testors product, and not Tamiya. -

It’s funny you posted this, as I was thinking, just the other day, about the tin garage I once had. Not totally sure if I had a Marx Garage when I was young, but I did get a tin garage from Santa Clause. Can’t remember what year, but I was probably 7 years old. I found a couple of pics of the tin one I had.

Ford Galaxie grill swap.
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys. That top of the grill with the FORD script will have to go. Not there on a 69. Also the center on the grill can be removed too. I can make it work though. Not too far off of 69 grill. Thanks Steve for the pics. -
TESTORS AIN'T WHAT IT USED TA BE...
Brutalform replied to Mothersworry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It’s pretty sad to say that, nothing seems to be what it used to be anymore. I have this silly little thing about me, and that is when I buy something, all I expect is that it does what’s intended. At least for a little while. It’s appalling how “new” items such as refrigerators , ovens, TVs, or otherwise simple things like model paint, are so cheaply made, (but always cost more), just fail to perform like they should. I’ve had several Testors do this also, but never Tamiya. And no one cares, as long as they have your money. Years ago companies stood by their products, and a few still do, but it’s pretty sad when they constantly hound you to pay extra for extended warranty coverage. How about stand by your product to begin with, or build it a little better? Just sayin -
Does anyone know if the AMT 70 Ford Galaxie grill would fit the AMT 69 Ford Galaxie? I would like to get some info on the swap before buying a 70 grill, to build a replica of a real 69 without the hide away headlights.

Stash organization
Brutalform replied to atomicholiday's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1 complete kits, either sealed or not. 2 partial kits 3 built kits. Everything else, like bodies, tires, parts, etc. all go in organized, labeled parts drawers. -
Fantastic looking Nova Kevin. Stance, and details are spot on. I was looking at purchasing some of Future Attraction wheels and tires, and after seeing your build, I’m gonna get a few. Great work.

BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH this guy! -
Thanks Doc for pointing that out. He’s had that posted for some time. He didn’t want people ordering more than two of anything, as not to deplete his inventory. With the exception of “little time right now to remake molds”. My bad. I didn’t see that part earlier. He’s got some great stuff. Hopefully things will get back into full swing.

Unless I’m missing something?

How do you know he’s out of business? I just looked up his page and took a screenshot. It appears he’s open for buisness.

I was looking on their site earlier today. Didn’t know they were out of business?

Moebius Truck Wheel info
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks awesome! Where did you get those steer tires and rims? I might just strip the trim rings, and paint them. I normally don’t bash kits, but this thing had tons of flash, and it seems that several parts on the engine, had the holes not lining up with the studs, and contact between parts. Definitely not for a beginner. I’ve spent more time cleaning up parts, than actually building. -
Can anyone possibly please post a picture of the back sides of these particular truck wheels. I don’t want to buy a set unless I’m sure I can use them. I’m working on the AMT Peterbilt Wrecker, but the kit supplied wheels are pretty beat out of the box, missing and broken trim rings, etc. I already did the necessary cuts to narrow the rear tow platform so the wheels protrude to the fender line like they should. So pic would be very helpful. Thanks.

I haven’t been posting on the board, or have been at the bench much, but, I posted a video from YouTube that was about the passing of Chris Cortel. I’ve never spoke to him personally, but, I watched his videos frequently. Then I found out that Roger passed also. He was always kind, and would be happy to share his knowledge of kits, and his building. His builds were very inspiring. Recently turning 57 myself, and Roger being 56 is WAY TOO YOUNG, to be leaving this world. I’d like to send thoughts to his family, and to the other members on here, that called him a friend, and that knew him better than I did. Life is short. Live it to the fullest.
