Foose ‘65 impala question
Brutalform replied to JTRACING's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It’s funny that I’m thinking how off track we modelers get. I remember having a goal of building all the Impalas available in kit form. I have a 61, 62, 63, 64, and 66 built, but this is where I stopped. I’m not too worried about the high priced 68, or 69. I’ve had a 65, and 67 in my stash forever, but they just sat there sealed. Maybe I’ll grab one of these Foose kits and finally get my last couple of Impalas started and finished. -

Yea, I was searching for a vert to no avail. Maybe one will go on sale soon. -
1964 Ford Galaxie Tear drop hood
Brutalform replied to Nitrobarry's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I’ve used several resin hoods on my Galaxies, and recently I’ve noticed all are a bit out of shape. From now on, I’m going to just graft a resin scoop onto the plastic hoods. -
Foose ‘65 impala question
Brutalform replied to JTRACING's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’d like to get one to build, since I have the Monogram kit sealed, in excellent condition. I have a few kits, (not many) that I just want to hang on to. I would definitely want mine to be a 409 though. I have a few of those engines in my parts bins. Im thinking a maroon exterior with a black interior. An old friend had one like that, and besides the fender skirts it had on it, it was a perfect looking car. I don’t have a thing against fender skirts, but not on a 65 Impala. -

Thank you. It seems they are going for decent prices online. I just might pick up one for myself. -
Foose ‘65 impala question

Does the Foose kit have the same car as the old Monogram kit? -
So sorry to hear about your Dad Scott. Take care of the family. We’ll be here when you return.

That’s a great idea, but would they listen? Not all, but some of the time, I’m disappointed in a few of the kits being put out. Just another new box and decals, but with the same old kit. They never seem to even correct the minor problems some of these kits have. But on the other hand, some of the kits are a home run. I could think of at the very least, ten more kits I’d like to see back on the market. I’m sure if they hear enough suggestions from their customers, they might listen. Maybe take a poll and see how many people would actually “buy” a kit that was released? I would assume most adult modelers would love to have that old MPC kit rereleased, but the companies might not see it to be profitable, because not enough people would want it, in their eyes. Drag City had a test of an improved Ford Thunderbolt tear drop hood, but didn’t follow through because not enough people were interested. I for one would have bought ten. In no way am I bashing any model kit company. Just my two cents.

I had my #11 hobby knife fall off the bench, and stab me right in the top of the foot. Make sure you have your steel toe boots on while at the bench.

Yea, I totally agree. If a seller can get the asking price, more power to them. But I just can’t figure out some people who buy on eBay. That buyer could have most definitely bought that same kit for $300 less from another seller. They ARE out there, I’ve seen them. Ive seen two identical kits, both sellers have 100% feedback, but one will have 5 bids on it, and it’s already higher than it’s worth, and another one will be “buy it now” for less money? Go figure....

Some of the neatest and cleanest builds I’ve seen. Great work.

I bought mine at Hobby Lobby, but I remember seeing it at Michaels, and other places also. -
I’m glad that when my top came off, it happened before I did any painting. I can see any reason why they would make the stand in two parts? A bit of duct tape provided the fix.

Krylon Short Cuts spray paint.
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It was pretty dry to the touch in about twenty minutes. As far as the texture, I just sprayed it on without any prepping to see how it would react to the primer and clear. The label only states that there is acetone, toluene, and the like. It also states “dries to the touch in 30 minutes”. It acts more like a lacquer, than an enamel. -
Yep. A little ingenuity can go a long way, and save you some money. Especially when our hobby prices are high these days.

I know, I should just buy an airbrush already, and I won’t have this problem, BUT, I was looking for a paint close to resemble Fords 1964 Skylight Blue, to build Jake Kings Atwater T Bolt. I bought this can for about a buck and a half cheaper than the Testors, and Tamiya sprays. I was a bit skeptical on using it, as there is no mention on the can whether it’s an enamel, or lacquer, or acrylic. So I tested it in an old body with Tamiya white primer, then the Krylon, then Testors lacquer clear. Looks pretty good with no signs of cracking, or wrinkles. Has anyone tried these colors at all? They do have some nice colors that are not available in the typical model sprays. I can’t wait to get started on this project.

Yellow (UGH!) plastic cover-up.
Brutalform replied to Hi-Po's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I bought it on Amazon for about $8. I’m sure it’s available in many craft stores also. After priming a red body, and the red starts showing through the primer, I hit it with two coats of this, and no problems. I don’t see any problems if you were going from a red to a darker red. You might have a problem going to a lighter shade of red though. You’ll have to give it a try to see. I usually test my paints on an old body or some other part I probably won’t ever use. -

Can we see your model stash?

I have an extra set of Fred Cady decals for your 63. Dick Brannan Romy Hammes decals. If you want them just PM me your address, and they are yours. If you go this route, you can buy a 63 lightweight interior tub from MCW, to make the build more correct. -

Any particular cars you have in mind? Do you have any decals? -

What are your plans for them? Just a street car, or a S/S build? Or just stock with extra detail? -

Thanks. I have more. That box top car has been sitting for over a year now... lol
