Engine assembly and painting
Brutalform replied to kmc3420's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't remember the last time I scraped a plated, or painted part. I use top coat clear in the Model Master glass jar for engine assembly, or CA glue, with accelerator. I even use 5 min epoxy. As long as you are careful with the epoxy, it is undetected and speeds up the building without waiting for parts to dry. I always use regular liquid cement for block halves, oil pans and water pumps if they will be the same color. -
Thanks everyone?

Milliput users please help.
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the replies. When I said nitro stain, I meant spot putty. I think this will be new route. -
Hello.... I have a question about milliput putty. I had to remove the trim from a resin 63 Galaxie box top. I'd like to mix up some of this putty, and apply and shape the rear quarters where the rear lights contour on them. Also, where the trim once was, ghost trim shows through the primer. I was thinking of s thin layer of nitro stain or equivalent???? Ive had Tamiya putty on it, but wouldn't dry. I'm figuring it's because of the resin. Could this milliput be applied, and shaped the best it can, then when dried a final sanding???? I heard that once it was dry it a real pain to get it shaped after that. Any advice on this, or any other route I should take would be appreciated.

Thanks.... the engine is from the AMT 66 Galaxie kit. The carbs are from the 60 Starliner custom kit. It did need some work to get it to look decent.

Finished this up a couple weeks ago. It was a fun build. Can't wait till the new release with the SOHC comes out.

Tamiya White Putty.. Dry Time?
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the Tamiya putty is aimed more toward styrene. -
Tamiya White Putty.. Dry Time?
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've soaked the body for a few days in a Bleech White. It's a 63 Galaxie box top, that I removed the side mounding from. I planned on building the rear quarters up a bit, in thin layers, to get the rounded shape to the tail light area. It did dry in other areas that I filled, just the quarters are "tacky". I do have Milliput two part putty. I guess I'll remove it, and try that route. I really need it to be sandable to keep the correct contour of the rear quarters. Thank you for the replies.... I appreciate your help. -
Ive applied the Tamiya white putty to a resin body that I am working on. I applied it two days ago, and it's still tacky. I applied it thin, just enough to cover the work. I was going to build it up after it dried and the shrinking was done. Does anyone think it could be the resin? Has anyone had this happen?

This is one of the nicest builds I ever saw. Blown away on this one. -
AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler Wrecker
Brutalform replied to Tory's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The Moebius Big Rig tires set will fill the wheels out to the body without narrowing the body? I'm currently working on The California Hauler reissue, but plan on building the wrecker next. -
AMT/Model King 1969 Camaro funny car

Super cool. -
I've been on a tractor trailer kick lately. Probably because I've been off work for 8 months, with my back injury, and can't drive mine. But, anyway, I bought a teardrop hood, and have been messing around with the fit of everything else. Had to remove about 1/8 of an inch from the bottom of the shock towers. Also will build a new radiator support from styrene sheet. Then when I get a few pics taken, I'll post them up.

I have some parts from an incomplete GTA kit. And the bumpers fit nicely. Also the glass will work. Comparing this body to my built 427 R car, it appears the chassis will work also. This old body in question has the realistic rear taillight bezels that will also work with the newer red taillights. These look way more realistic than the newer lights. I can buy a GTA kit for the frame and suspension. I can even use the 390 block, fitted with the 427 dual quad manifold to resemble a 427.

Thanks Ace. The hood is t my real concern. I just had one handy to try. If the frame and interior works from the regular AMT kits, I'll be in business. Thanks for the info on the hood, as I was going to go with an aftermarket resin hood. Just wasn't sure of it would fit, but you answered that for me. Come to think of it, I recall sanding down the sides of a teardrop resin hood to fit the Fairlane 427 I built.
-
Also, I tried to fit the AMT Fairlane GTA hood on it and the hood is smaller all the way around.

i recently scored an old 66 Fairlane body. It's in pretty good shape. It's not like the AMT kits body though. This one is molded in a bright white color, and has the "Fairlane " molded into the rear fenders. Also, it has the front shock towers, with the shocks showing through, and the radiator cast into the body as well. Anyone know what kit this is? I'd like to build up a drag car out of it. Thanks......

Sad Sad Sad News: Our Harry Passed Away
Brutalform replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very sad news. Thoughts to his family and friends. -
If there is something that interests me in 1/24, I'll buy and build it. It doesn't matter to me. Many times, using 1/24 wheels and tires on a 1/25 car works out pretty good. Just a tad bigger in size, really fills out a wheel well better, if you get a kit with tires that look too small.
-
That's cool. I totally understand. Actually I forgot you are outside the states. But thank you anyway. Continue with this beautiful build.

I like how this is coming along. This is getting me in the mood to start my 61. About those wheels, they are beautiful. Does your friend that casts these, sell them? Does he have a website? Id be interested in about 3 sets.
