McBurnie Coachcraft 'Ferrari' Daytona Replica - 'Miami Vice Style'...
crowe-t replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Cars
Thanks guys for the compliments. I love the look of the McBurnie Daytona and feel it was the better car for Crockett on Miami Vice. I really enjoyed building this one and learning more about the car. -
I finished this one. It only took 8 years. I scratch built the rear view mirrors and the exhaust system. The mufflers are from an AMT 1970 Chevelle. The exhaust has a strange shape on the driver's side which is how the real McBurnie 'beauty' car from Miami Vice looks. They routed it along side the passenger side exhaust pipe to go into the cutouts of the chassis cross members which sort of makes sense. The exhaust tips are the ones from the Miami Vice Daytona kit. I made the windshield and the front 'plexiglass' headlight cover from acetate. The Corvette's clear windshield is very thick and looked out of scale. I sanded down the thickness of the Daytona kit's clear tail light lenses and painted them with Tamiya X-27 Clear Red and X-26 Clear Orange and sprayed clear lacquer over them. The tires are from Fireball Modelworks. I painted the underside floors by first spraying Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and then misted Tamiya XF-63 German Grey over to sort of look like a Corvette's fiberglass. It doesn't show in the picture but is more noticeable in person. Here is a car I started in 2013. I put it aside for a while to work on other projects and then took it out and painted it last year. It's finally done. This is built using a Monogram Miami Vice Daytona and a Monogram '78 Corvette. The Daytona kit uses the Covette's Chassis and engine but the body represents a real Ferrari 3654(Daytona) so it's not accurate to the McBurnie replica used on Miami Vice. I attached some progress pictures at the end to show some of what I did on this. Below is my build thread that describes in more detail the modifications and a bit about the differences between a Ferrari 365(Daytona) and the McBurnie Daytona replica's body. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/78841-mcburnie-coachcraft-ferrari-daytona-replica-miami-vice-style/

Is there a glue that works on stainless steel? I need to glue a stainless steel rod into a styrene tube. Will JB Weld or a regular 5 minute epoxy work?

What's the best 1966 Batmobile kit? The Deluxe kit has the photoetch parts and options for the V8 and the Jet Turbine engine. However the other kit has resin figures that look like Adam West and Burt Ward. Is there another 1966 Batmobile with the PE, Jet Turbine engine and the newer resin figures or are these the only 2 options?

Steve, Your '64 Pontiac Grand Prix looks real in this picture. Beautiful job.

I'm looking at these 2 airbrushes: Grex Tritium.TG or GSI Creos Mr. Airbrush Procon Boy PS-290 . They both seem similar and both have a fan spray cap option. I'm thinking one or both of these would be good for spraying bodies with clear. http://www.grexusa.com/grexairbrush/products.php5?id=Tritium.TG https://www.mr-hobby.com/en/product3/category_2/19.html I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions on these.

Are you sure you aren't referring to the Duplicolor filler primer? I use Duplicolor Sandable Gray Hot Rod and White primer and it goes on thin. I need Red Oxide for a project and needed to know if it's more red or more brown. -

Is Dupli-Color Sandable Red Oxide Primer more towards red or brown? I've seen red oxide primers that look very brown and some very red. -
Most durable chrome painting option(s)?
crowe-t replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I did test some Alclad Aqua Gloss over the Alclad Chrome and it's durable. I tested it on spoons. Both spoons have the Alclad Chrome. I sprayed Aqua Gloss over the chrome on one spoon and it's only very slightly duller. It's worth the slight difference in appearance considering how durable the clear is.
