van builds finished or wip
crowe-t replied to modelguy45's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Has anyone compared the AMT 'Phantom' to one of the MPC Ford Econoline vans(Sunrunner, Juke Box...)? The bodies looks very similar. I have an old glue bomb MPC Sunrunner that's falling apart but don't have a Phantom for comparison. -
1974 Econoline

Tom, Great work so far! This will surely be a good kit to have. Will the suspension from the AMT Phantom van kit work for a '74? -

Jonathan, This is coming out real nice! I never saw one of these kits built with the extension added to the rear. How many Vantom/Phantom kits did you use to build this? -
Rey, This is an absolutely stunning build! It's beautifully done and perfect in every way.
-
Erik, This is beautiful! I like the clear covers over the headlights. I assume you scratch built the headlight areas.
-
Carl, Very nice build! The paint looks amazing.
-
Bob, That's a nice view you have in the back yard!!! Back to the van... the hinges look great and look in scale too. Nice job. Are you going to open up the front doors too? Mike.

WOW, this is BEAUTIFUL! And the paint is Flawless!!! Beautiful job on this Donn.

Revell S.E 1/25 1968 Dodge Charger R/T (Hemified).
crowe-t replied to BMX Addicts's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Juan, I just found this thread and I have to say it's a very clean build! Beautifully done. Not bad for a BMX guy!!! BTW, you may remember me from Vintage BMX and BMX Museum. I've talked with you a while ago. Again, excellent build on this Charger! Mike.- 125 replies

1/16th Dukes Charger * 3/28/15* Update, **DAISY DUKE AUTOGRAPH**
crowe-t replied to Rdkingjay's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Jay, This is an incredible build. It's the best 1/16 scale charger build I've seen. I see you sprayed the clear coat over the BMF. I haven't seen that too often but I really like that idea. Mike. -
Revell - 1977 "Bandit" Pontiac Firebird (Trans Am!)
crowe-t replied to Drake69's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Is the AMT Smokey & Bandit Pontiac Trans Am kit a re-issue of the MPC Blackbird kit? When MPC and AMT were under the ERTL/RC2 brand it seems a lot of the old MPC kits were re-packeged with the AMT name. -
Revell - 1977 "Bandit" Pontiac Firebird (Trans Am!)
crowe-t replied to Drake69's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
How does the body of this new Revell 'Bandit' Trans Am compare to the Monogram '78 kit and the MPC Blackbird Trans Am kits? I think the MPC is either a '77 or '78 model year, but not sure. The windshield area does look a bit shorter in the pictures of the new Revell 'Bandit' kit. -
Clear coat... over Decals... over MCW Paint?

Thanks for the heads up on the Mr. Color clear. -
project pro street 4.25.15 brass time!
crowe-t replied to streetmachine11's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Jason, Your 1:1 is beautiful! I hope to see some pictures of the chassis and engine soon. It looks like you are off to a great start on the 1:25 model. Your mock up with the wheels looks spot on. -
Revell - 1977 "Bandit" Pontiac Firebird (Trans Am!)
crowe-t replied to Drake69's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking at the pictures, it seems that the roof area between the T-Tops is too wide. Did the '77 Trans Am look like this? I seem to remember the area between the T-Tops being narrower. -

Silly question... Was this kit just released by Revell? -
Clear coat... over Decals... over MCW Paint?
crowe-t replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A friend had an experience with Testors lacquer clear turning yellow on a model. BTW, it wasn't over decals but the clear did yellow a bit. Is this common with Testors? Maybe he had a bad can. -
On a future build I may give MCW(Model Car World) lacquer paint a try. I'd be applying decals on the MCW paint too. I'd like to apply a final clear coat over the whole body to seal the decals after they are applied on the model. What's a good (lacquer)clear coat to use over both decals and MCW lacquer paint? Does the MCW paint have to be polished before I apply the decals or is it smooth enough?

van builds finished or wip
crowe-t replied to modelguy45's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Tom, Your vans are incredible! I remember you posted the green Ford Econoline in another thread a while ago. Every last detail down to the spare tire in the back of the Chevy is spot on. I had to go back and look at the pictures a few times to make sure they were models. BTW, what paint/color(s) did you use on the green Ford Econoline? Mike. -
Bob, You are making some great progress on this. This generation Ford Econoline was always my favorite van I do miss all the cool custom vans of the '70's.

My new project CJ-7
crowe-t replied to hjracing's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
José, I'll be watching this build! The CJ-7 was always my favorite of the Jeeps. In 1987 when Jeep changed it, it didn't appeal to me as much. -
In this link below is the Pinto Pro Stock folder that has pictures of Dyno Don's Pinto as well as many others. http://public.fotki.com/VincePutt/archive/drag-racing/pro-stock/pinto-ps/
-
They still do. The only thing is the kits represent a full chassis with a four link that doesn't look to be era correct. I'm not 100% sure what year Pro Stock started using the four link setup.
-
I'm not sure when four links started being used but the early Pro Stocks in the 70's used ladder bars. The Mustang II Firefighter chassis may be a good start since it's back halved. The rear axle can be changed or not but it seems to be a decent starting point to build an era correct 70's Pinto. I think full tube chassis cars came around 1974.

Very nice clean build!
