Wife and I took my daughter and her friend to see Santa and ride the train in Ashland, KY. It's their Winter Wonderland of lights in the city park. Of coarse, dinner at Outback didn't hurt anything either.

I dig it like two big ole long scrape marks in the blacktop! -
So recently, I have discovered relaxednoma, Mike Muncy, Geno, modelmaker47, and Olskoolrodder are all either from Kentucky or have close ties. How many others here are from the eastern half of the state?

Mike, like anything else on here, you will get a million answers...and there isn't necessarily a wrong one. My answer to general filling is just plain old 3m Spot putty from Walmart or wherever. -

My best opinion...it's a custom. Ditch the spare tire all together and locate a fuel cell from another kit. Throw the fuel cell in the trunk and fill the gaps left in the floor. If you don't have any styrene stock right now, use an old "For Sale" sign, a spare flat hood, or one of those credit card things with no raised letters everyone sends you in the mail to fill in the gap. (I make roll pans out of those cards sometimes.) With those items out of the way, your worries will now be minimumized. Also as described above, the "purple pond" is simply degreaser. It's called that because it's highly popular to use Purple Power or a similar brand in that color. Dollar Tree also has a brand called "L.A.s Totally Awesome. I use it quite a bit...It is in a clear bottle and has a yellowish tint to it. The reason so many people refer to it here as the"purple pond" is because they pour it into a container slightly larger than the model when they want to strip all the paint from it...just let it sit a couple days and then take a brush to it under running cold water when it comes out to get the old unwanted paint removed. In essence, it soaks in a pond of it. -
Have you got fenderwells in the front? Cut those suckers out if you do and you'll get a ton of clearance. From what I see in the back...due to the light shining through the body, it looks like you could do a lot of tweeking in the back to get about 3 or 4 more scale inches of drop back there. If you can't lay it out on those, you can at least get one heck of a drop and a hot rod rake to it.

Not to threadjack but, Geno, that tornado didn't miss us by much either. We actually left town when we heard it was supposed to come toward us. We got back to the area and went to Salyersville to check on my wife's family. It was horrible. It looked like one of those apocalyptic movies...or like a war zone even. Just tragic. -

Mike, I don't really know anyone personally who puts together a lot of kits aside from myself. However, when I used to install Directv, I went into an apartment where this guy probably had about 150 NASCAR kits and they were every general paint scheme car Dale Jr ever had and a few other drivers. He had these really nice displays that were wooden framed glass boxes individually made and connected. There were about 20 on each of four sides and it rotated. I've never seen anything else like it. On topic, any progress with the Firebird? One thing I might suggest to you is search for the thread called "Back To Basics" involving the build of a 67 Charger. It will really give you an idea just how much can go into a "box stock" build to get it to look realistic. Btw, pm me if you don't have the tips and tricks to saving money on kits over in Barboursville and Huntington as I assume that was your Hobby Lobby location. -

Im stumped. My exhaust ends in front of the rear end on my truck. As for fisheyes, throw the straws in the purple pond while stewing on some ideas and let em soak. I'm thinking they might be a little stronger than coffee stirrers. (Stirrers, is that even a word?) -
Yeah, 'nothin stock about a stock car' anymore.

I like it but, I want to ask a question about NASCAR and cars. Im a die hard believer that cup cars should be based on two door cars. Now being that an SS is supposed to be a four door car, then why is the B Pillar so far back that if it were a street car there is no way someone could fit in and out the back seat?

$425,000,000! What would you do?

Well, I never even matched one number...so much for that. Some millionaire will probably win. Maybe they will start a model kit manufacturer. -

I wish some of these great deals would come to our area. It's pretty rural and people really don't have much to do around here. -

Hey, that might work! Or maybe you have a WD40 can with the little straw laying around. That should be good for a couple link bars at least. -

I live near Paintsville. Yeah, this is a really good site. You will find a lot of friendly and informative builders here. People build everything from custom Kenworths to stock Model T's on here. They finish them all the way from fgraphics and candies to full on rust and rot. I have learned a ton in the last year. Reach out and talk to everyone, know the rules, be prepared to learn, and you will really enjoy this place. -

Hey man! im from eastern KY too! Nice to see someone else from around here get caught up on models instead of drugs like a sadly large portion of the people in our area. This site is THE place to be. Unlike some sites, any bickering doesn't last too long or go too far here. We're like one big happy family of adults that like to build models! -

What about cutting up some metal axles from die casts you may have taken the wheels off? They're metal but, seems like they would make a good beefy 4 link. -

Ive seen that solar thing for your kit's back window but, I swear I can't remember when or where. -
Well, at least we have a site where people admit when they know something is broken. I'm sure Gregg will get it straightened out.
-
Next time your wife retires a hair straightener, grab it. Just press the tire down on one side of it when hot.
-
A lot of hobby shops still have a ton of these. I don't think a lot of people realize you can also build the regular version out of them as well.

Where in the world did you get a 98 up grille for an S10? I've been going crazy trying to find the front end and the interior for one! -

That's great! Now I want to go to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner. BTW, is that a Larry Hagman tribute I see on the side or just a random business name? -
Yeah, really. That must have an IRS with SUPER LONG lower control arms!
