Thank you, Steve. I really appreciate the pictures. They seem to be scarce "online" for this show, LOL!!

Revell's Make-nTake
Kmidd65 replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mike, I believe that this is an excellent idea! I gotta tell you, I am in this hobby today due to a teacher I had in the 3rd grade. He held an afternoon class where he helped us build models. After several weeks, he put up tables in the school lunch room and displayed our finished work! To this day, I still can picture my Don the Snake Revell Monza sitting on that table!! Some of my friends managed to complete the old Revell '57 Chevy Lowrider kits. LOL!! Yep, the old mid-70's version with the Pink molded plastic! (Showing my age!) I did not have a father around to help me but this teacher sparked a flame that continues to this day! Just recently, my son had to attend a local show with me because his mother was out of town. Mind you, he never showed any interest in my projects before this show. At the show, they had a Make and Take and I asked him if he was interested. He built the Hum-V snapper and had a blast. He asked if we could buy a snap Monster Truck from one of the vendors. He has been working on that one on and off over the last couple of months. He wants to take it to a show in October. Just recently, he asked if we could buy the snap Camaro at the local craft store. Dear old dad gladly picked up the tab! In a round about way, I want you and your wife to know that this will have an impact on one or more of these children. I thank Revell and the individuals who invest their time in these programs. -
What's your opinion on clearcoating over decals?
Kmidd65 replied to Terry Sumner's topic in WIP: NASCAR
While this is a HOBBY and I respect everybody's opinion on the matter, I do have to side with Chris on this one. Right or wrong, my personal experience with Nascar models at contests is that the shiny cars fare better. I just recently built a Fina/Lance T-Bird box-stock for local shows here in the Carolinas. The finish on this one was more of a polished sheen than out right shiny. That model was a better build than my other "full gloss shiny" cars. My shiny cars consistently beat it at IPMS judged and crowd vote type events. Again, I am here in the heart of Nascar country and stating personal experience! On this issue, if you like em shiny with tire decals, do it! If you like them with tire stencils and no clear coats, do it! I love looking at the builds of others, no matter how they do them. I build mine both ways and have alot of fun! -
63 Pro Mod Vette.......Updated 09/28/14
Kmidd65 replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Been watching this one, Wayne. Very nice job so far! -
I had to scale back on my model show trips this year. I too figured no big deal, somebody is bound to cover this one! If I was there, pictures would have been posted! Guess I will factor this into planning next year... Seriously, this is one of the better shows each year. If you get the chance to attend this one some year, I definitely recommend it!

Another beauty Tom! You always do nice work.
-
James, You are AWESOME!! Thanks a bunch!

My thoughts, exactly, Jeff! I had to choose between this show or the SCMA event in Columbia, SC this weekend. I decided to stay closer to home this time (gas expense). Would love to see some pictures if anybody has any or knows somebody that does! The RVIPMS guys always do a pretty good job.

BLACK!! That is going to be super sinister. Especially with that hood!

Mark, you better stick with the Nascars... LOL, seriously, that is very nice! We Nascar builders often get a bad rap but this proves we can venture out of our comfort zone every now and again. I really like this one!

I agree, had a great time down there. Nice to meet you, Josh! Your club did another outstanding job hosting this event. I have attached a link to my photos: http://public.fotki.com/KMidd65/model-car-shows--co/2012-model-car-shows/scma-midlands-show-2012/

SCMA 3rd annual model contest (lexington SC)
Kmidd65 replied to 01blueedge's topic in Contests and Shows
Thanks, Josh! Looking forward to the show. Mike, have you been able to venture down to any of the Rock Hill meetings? I live in Fort Mill and have considered joining that group several times. I just never ventured down to check it out. Was wondering how many modeler's were in the group, build preferences, etc. I sure do miss the old Road Knights club up in Charlotte! -
Hi Bruce, no, she is a box-stocker. That was the kit grille that I sprayed with silver lacquer. I then masked the stipes and shot flat black enamel to make the squares. Over all of this, I brush painted tamiya smoke to tone down the silver cross bars. It was a paint experiment that turned out pretty cool! I wish I had a decal to do it but could not find anything in my stash.

SCMA 3rd annual model contest (lexington SC)
Kmidd65 replied to 01blueedge's topic in Contests and Shows
Hi Josh, so far, I plan to attend next weekend. If I am able to get down there, I will have a couple of my Nascar models with me and another that is in process. If you see this car over in the Nascar section, I will be there. http://www.modelcars...showtopic=60742 Most likely, I will be snapping photos or just generally drooling over the builds at a table someplace. LOL! Hope to bump into you down there. Your club did a great job with this show last year! -
I finished this one up back around March and posted up some crappy indoor photos at the time. I was out with the camera today and thought I would shoot a new batch of this Lumina outside in the sunny weather. This is a box-stock build with Moosework decals. Contingency decals came from some left over Powerslides. I believe the outdoor photos represent this build up a little better. Thought I would share with everybody as my current project is taking forever to finish. More in my fotki album: http://public.fotki....ireland-lumina/

You must be looking for this good looking beast! If so, I have uploaded some of the reference photos I have in my stash. You can access them in my Fotki album at the link. HTH! http://public.fotki.com/KMidd65/race-car-reference-/dw-bud-11-monte-carlo/

Thanks for the tip on trimming the decals and the rustoleum paint. Maybe it's the lighting but that Navy Blue looks close to a Royal Blue to my eye. I will have to pickup a can of that to add to my paint stash. I love Rustoleum's Cherry Red! Again, nice work on this one, Mark. I see that you also posted it up over at Randy's!

Wow, Mark! You are a brave man, sir! I would have never attempted that one with "kit" decals. That turned out beautiful! If you do not mind, can you tell me what blue you used up top? That looks like a shade I need to investigate for a future build. Thanks for sharing this one with us, I may have to double check those decals in my kit up on the shelf.
-
Both are extremely nice "shelf" models, Drew. If you didn't tell us, I would have never guessed! They are GORGEOUS! Glad to see you back at the bench. You are one of the reasons I build Nascar models. Thanks for sharing with us over the years!

Another nice one, John!
-
It's the attack of the TB Cars!! LOL! Seriously, that is slick and smooth, Bruce. Nice job!
-
Really cool concept! It turned out great.
-
Mark, this is really COOL! Excellent craftsmanship and problem solving. Cannot wait to see this one finished. Thanks for sharing the in progress shots with us!

Thought so! Yes, I agree....very nice decals. I just recently picked up the Red Baron Olds set and was blown away when I opened the envelope. He has the technique down and Carto printing is the clincher! I really like this one.
