Reminds me of the dirt track late models that would run in Central Pennsylvania in the mid-seventies. Spent a lot of time in garages or at the track with my father back in those days of old. Appreciate your sharing! Looks great!
  2. Appreciate it, everybody. Happy to have this one out of the way! Now, if only I can keep at my other stalled project..Jeff Burton's Nascar Rocks! Taurus. Have not seen too many of those completed over the years.
  3. After sitting in the box about 7 years, I decided to get this out a month or so back and try to complete it. Viewing some of the Nascar builds posted on this site, I was inspired to get back at it. The back story on this one was that I started it about 8 years back and had a major paint problem while painting the body with Tamiya spray cans. At the time, I pulled out another body from a donor kit and gave it another go with some Valspar spray cans as an alternative. That also proved a total disaster... During that time, I had removed the paint from the original body (purple pond) and was filling in the nose, etc. Unfortunately, I got real busy with work and my Son's pastimes so it sat unfinished until this year. This time around, I used Apple Barrel acrylic craft paints as an alternative. I have been intrigued by others using this paint so I pulled out my air brush and practiced with some plastic spoons. After a few practice runs to improve the results, I decided why not!? I used Apple Barrel Gloss Black and Bright Yellow for my base coats. Finish coats are Rustoleum 2x Clear which were sanded out with 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000 and then polished with 3M rubbing compound. While not perfect, I was thrilled with the results after not building for so many years. Appreciate the inspiration, everybody, and hope you all have a Happy New Year!
  4. I have used that to seal in the acrylic craft paints with great success. Unfortunately, have not ventured there over the Createx. I have used Rustoleum 2x over Createx without issues. HTH
  5. Really nice! Luv it ?
  6. Agree, looks good. Got to appreciate folks who go out on the limb and try the non-standard craft paints! I am working on Martin's Winn Dixie T-Bird, same one as that kit, but using the Apple Barrel Gloss Black and Bright Yellow. Have not tried the varnish. Covered mine with 2x Clear. Currently gassing out so I can attempt to wet sand/polish. The craft paints open the door to a broad spectrum of color choices and mixing abilities. Thanks for sharing with all of us!
  7. Actually, I have had quite a bit of luck painting over Future. I use it as a sealer over areas I have used Bondo spot putty. After sanding, I apply a thin layer with a brush and let it dry at least a day. I have shot over this formula many times with a variety of primers and paint finishes without any trouble. The future keeps the bondo from shrinking or pitting if you allow it to dry a day or two before sanding and future coating. Regarding black model cars with Future, I have only did that once. On this Nascar, I had a mirror like finish with Tamiya clear before decaling. The decals were terrible and split and cracked like crazy during application. To seal them in and prevent future issues, I applied Future over this one with a wide brush. It worked pretty well. From time to time I will refresh the finish as it seems to dull over time. I wipe it down with a coat of ArmorAll and it brings back a deep shine. HTH
  8. Really nice, love them both. Those tires really work well with that kit. Thanks for sharing!
  9. Unfortunately, several yellow spoons were in that area, two of them Neon colors.. My thought per reviewing the spoons in that region to my chart; it was either Craftsmart Bright Yellow (lighter color), Liquitex Basics Primary Yellow (slightly darker color), or Anita's Canary Yellow. The first two may be found at Michael's while the Anita's is a Hobby Lobby house brand. HTH
  10. Colors really pop!! Nice job ?
  11. Super nice job! Always liked Ernie, especially driving the Morgan McClure cars. Brings back memories, thanks for sharing!
  12. Agree with all the other comments, use these all the time. One of the biggest issues is how the color will look once it is dried! What you see in the bottle will dry a bit darker. I also clear coat all my craft paints with Rustoleum 2x clear, Testors Lacquers, or varnish if hand brushing. The results with a clear coat will also differ from the color in the bottle or dried! Whenever I have the airbrush out, I have spoons primed that I then test colors and clear coat for later project ideas. I agree, large plethora of colors and mixing abilities with the craft paints. I also add Future/Pledge to my thinned acrylics before air brushing. Seems to help with durability and tip drying issues (airbrush). All the spoons in the attached image are craft paints, most cleared with the 2x. Definitely give it a try!
  13. Was a fan of Jeff back in the day. Really brings back memories. Nice work, thanks for sharing with us!
  14. Really cool subject matter. Nice job so far, Wayne!
  15. Way before my time but very cool indeed! Nice job on this one.
  16. Another super job. Not certain how you crank these out so quickly!
  17. Agree with Dave Van, really nice!!
  18. Here is one I did a few years back. Tamiya Black with Testor's Glosscote Lacquer. The decals were terrible so I had to seal them in with a coat of Future floor polish to protect them...
  19. Cool truck and artwork you do not see all the time. Really like the unique stuff, nice job, Wayne!
  20. Those colors really pop! Nice job so far, will be interesting to see it completed. Thanks for sharing with us.
  21. Really nice, those headers are always a chore to get right... Turned out great!
  22. Wow, super slick!! Always loved that car (Davey and Ernie driving it). Love the smooth black paint. Slixx decals, I presume? Thanks for sharing with us. Look forward to the completed build. Darn impressive for your first Nascar!
  23. Both turned out stellar, thanks for sharing with us!
  24. Another great build on the way to completion! Love your clean execution of these kits, Chris.
  25. Loving this! Have had the decals and kit to do this one but have not had the push to get started, unfortunately. Knew Bobby back in late 80's / 90's; great guy! Your build motivates me to get that start! Chris, you do such a nice job with your builds, really appreciate your sharing!
