John, you know that I am loving those 'Birds!! Nice work on all! I currently have that same Winn Dixie car queue'd up on the workbench. Thanks for the jolt of inspiration to get me moving on it again! That Buddy Baker car ROCKS, have that one as a companion build to my Fina/Lance car down the road someday here. You know I always love seeing your models. Thanks for sharing!

Any Clubs in North Carolina?
Kmidd65 replied to drpndstroy's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Dave, that was a trip down memory lane!! Thanks for posting up that video. I was at those shows and it just seems like yesterday... Loved seeing the footage of Bruce! Back in the day, the Road Knights definitely had it going on. We even had outdoor events under a tent at Carowinds! I was a member back in the late 80's thru the early 90's. I did a stint as the newsletter editor for a couple of years back before we had computers at home... LOL! Got married and fell away from the hobby until about 3 years ago. Since I have been back in, there is not much to offer in this area. At least from a car modeler standpoint. There are a few IPMS type groups around here but the only car based club is the CKM gang. Thank goodness we have the Internet!! Kirt, definitely keep us posted. I wouldn't mind traveling up from South Carolina to attend a car modeling group. I still see a lot of old Road Knight members at the local shows. I believe that there is definitely enough of a base to get something started again if not bring the Road Knights back to life. http://public.fotki.com/KMidd65/ -
Welcome aboard! I like that stars and stripes pickup. Was that based on the old AMT Firestones kit? I have one of those stashed away some place around here... Nice stuff!

Bruce, very nice job! I had to take a double take to make certain it wasn't a Nascar!! LOL! I love the Sage Green, it looks period perfect. Thanks for sharing it with us.

This was a first annual show held in Statesville, NC this afternoon. The organizers did a great job! Some really great car models on the tables at this one. More pictures in my Fotki album at the link: http://public.fotki....ba-valley-scal/

I have built several of these Revell Nascar models but for some reason, this is the one I adore the most. It was just a simple out of the box build but it just seemed to fall together. Cannot say that for a bunch of my others, LOL! Neat topic!

Looking Great Scott!! I love all of the painted little details. Will round it out nice when it is all together.
-
Hey Bruce, this is looking very nice! I believe those colors are going to tie in real well with the decals when it is all together. Nice and clean, she will be a looker when you wrap it up! Keep it coming, I am enjoying your ingenuity and craftsmanship on this build.

Thanks everybody! It takes me forever to build these Nascar kits "Box-Stock". I just see too many things to detail paint LOL. I guess we will move on to the Quincy's #35 (AK) next. Never built one of the older T-Birds. I really appreciate all of the feedback!

Finally finished this one up just in time for the MDA Model Contest this past weekend. I was able to salvage the cracking Mooseworks decals but had to cover my polished lacquer finish with Future... Still new to that technique but am quite happy with the final results. This is my first "non-Ford" Nascar so all comments and suggestions are welcome!

No problem, glad you enjoyed them. It was a great show! BTW, I really liked that vintage USAC car, Scott. Nice job!

This is an annual show held in conjunction with a full-size car show in Roanoke, VA. I definitely recommend this show if you can make it some year. More pictures in my fotki album at the link: http://public.fotki....-car-show-2012/

Totally awesome, one of a kind buildup!! Great job, I love the Blue with the yellow wheels.

I ventured up to that show last year and had a great time. Model cars and full-size cars all over the place! I definitiely recommend if you are in the area. I found a link to this year's show flyer: http://autoatomix.site.aplus.net/themdamodelcarcontest/ My pictures from the 2011 show: http://public.fotki.com/KMidd65/model-car-shows--co/2011-model-car-shows/mda-model-car-show-2011/ HTH

That is really looking Killer, Wayne! I love the way that black crown decal comes up the front. Very clean sharp build there so far. Is the stance just mocked up for the photo or do you already have it set? Either way, it is going to be really cool!
-
Well, I fought through it and finished the decals and sealed them in. I am pretty happy with the outcome, considering what I went through, LOL! I also finished up my replacement front suspension piece and got her up on all 4 wheels here this evening. I am not going to mess with the stance again as this one is an out-of-the-box build and it will be what it will be. I still have some finish work to do on the windows and the rear spoiler and I will be about done with this project! I really appreciate all the kind words and encouragement!

Wow, I believe I missed the original posting of this one!! Nice work, Bruce

Dick, I hear what you are saying. The pictures he is showing look a tad more orange than yellow. The problem is that the decals that he will be using are clearly more yellow. I personally would lean towards matching the decals in that case. Just my 2 cents!

LOL! We finished the decals this evening...They are not perfect but it is what it is. Yes, I was really happy with the way the Black Dupli-color polished out. Now I have to put Future over it.... Anyways, it will be real shiny, LOL! Hey, when are you going to finish up that Buckshot car?? I recently picked up a set of those decals after seeing yours. Roland, I appreciate your comments as well! http://public.fotki....ireland-lumina/

I gotta tell ya, with the exception of R/M "kit" decals, these have to be the WORST decals I have ever used! I was uncertain when I started so I sprayed a couple coats of Testors decal clear. It didn't help, these things crack, splinter, disintegrate and chip like crazy. Be forewarned if you plan to do this one. Buy a couple sets of decals.... The rear panel was supposed to have a Dupont decal and a small shamrock... That shamrock broke into 50 pieces when it hit the water! I ended up pulling the Dupont off and substituted the bigger shamrock. The worst was the driver's side door #. That one broke in 6 pieces that I have attempted to piece back together! I hate to do it but I will need to Future coat the entire body once I am finished decaling. These decals are so brittle I will need to do something to protect them. Anyways, we will get it there...with a little luck of the Irish! LOL! Though that I would try to add a little visual interest to the grille on this one. I taped off and sprayed some faux grille bars and then weathered them in.

Bruce, I like the paint selections on this one. I have never tried one of these older kits. I definitely will be following this one. One word of caution if I may; lay that Tamiya down first!! If not, you may have some crazing issues with those Testors enamels!! I went with enamel under Tamiya on my Fina Car and paid dearly! I ended up letting it gas out, sanded the Tamiya smooth, applied a Future barrier coat, and then re-shot.... It all worked out in the end but it sure was a lesson for me about mixing paint types! LOL! - Kirk

I really appreciate the response everybody! I built back in the late 80's early 90's, played with a Nascar kit around 2000 but did not get back to active building until about a year and a half ago. When I came back, I decided to focus on out of the box builds to get my skills back up. The paint work is my biggest challenge as I am still doing spray cans. I have an airbrush but am too lazy to clean it and mess with dialing it in. Since this was a black car, I decided to go with Duplicolor lacquer and their clear coat. I believe I will get a better polish/shine than I got on my Bruce Lee Taurus down in the Nascar section of the board. I did cheapo enamel on that one and had a bunch of issues to work through. Again, I really appreciate the feedback everybody!
