Considering the fact there's a Hummer Dealership logo from Louisville, KY molded onto the rear door, this thing has to - at least in part - represent a specific 1:1.
-
It's not American style, it's just really fat...err tall? It's the normal dimensions of a typical Japanese kit, but there's so much to stuff in there, it's about 2x as deep a box.

Here's a video of the ArtPrimo guys playing with it. My take away is that it's thicker than paint - being an ink. You'd need something to thin it that wouldn't destroy the "chromeness" of it. Being alcohol based it dries very quickly, and unless you could inhibit the evaporation somehow I think you'd just effectively chrome coat the inside of your A/B. If you could, you'd still have to tear down the rig quickly before things could dry out. Being an ink, it's supposed to be permanent.

That means clean up would be different, you would need an alcohol soluble thinner/cleaner. Maybe 91% alcohol would cut it. I'd hate to see someone gum up their A/B rig, or ruin the rubber O rings.

Just be aware it's an alcohol based INK, not actual paint. Basically the liquid version of how Cartograf and others do the "Hot Foil" metal decal printing.

Ya know guys they sell a 30mL refill thing for those Molotow Liquid Chrome markers, you don't have to buy a new marker every time it runs out of ink.

You can turn on the close captions and then go into setting and select "Auto Translate - English". It's not perfect by any means, but you can follow along at least.

This and the Diablo GT both came in today.

First Look - AMT's retooled "Flying Wedge" Rail Dragster
niteowl7710 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Last week. -
According to Revell's literature about the car, it's supposed to be a 1984 with the 4.1L engine. The problem of this kit from a factory stock prospective is that it's a mash up of several years worth of De Villes. It's effectively a 1984 with the front clip of a 1990s attached. Ergo it being a "Custom Cadillac"

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
niteowl7710 replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So what if it is "destroyed", the files to cut the tooling are in Illinois (or a cloud Illinois can access). Cut a new piece of steel and fix the port spacing on the Buick, and the inside out engraving of the "skeleton" interior pieces to boot. I've seen said FB posting and I have to wonder why in a country with billions of people the Chinese GOVERNMENT has time to wander into whatever backwater molding contractor Revell uses and maliciously destroy ONLY one tool and it's inserts. Seems like someone's a tad xenophobic and is trying to gin up some anti - China hate - which considering the average car modeler isn't particularly difficult. -
Virgil really doesn't come around here all that much anymore. In fact from glancing at his profile he hasn't posted since June - which was 6 months from his prior post from December of 2015, and hasn't even signed into the board since before Halloween. He put a lot of time and effort in behind building the "brand" that is Dr. Cranky and who can blame him for devoting his time into those avenues. He is also a full time college professor, and has been collaborating with another prominent YouTube modeler doing custom guitars. Plus for someone like Virgil who does a lot of How-Tos, doing them on video (especially since the equipment needed to record in 1080p Hi-Def, and edit those videos has come down to earth) is just simply the way to go. Nothing gets edited out, nothing has to be explained with just text or pictures. You can explain the technique and then literally show exactly how to use it correctly. The model magazines are lumbering off to obscurity - although digital issues may extend that shuffle - and forums such as this aren't that far behind. I know for a lot of the older folks, they still want that tangible "thing" to hold in their hand. But if you want to replicate a technique or body modification, what's easier to follow along with, a meandering article with 7 or 8 photos, or a live video with in depth explanations?

This is the latest kit to meet the delay monster, with release pushed back to February.

2016 Revell Germany, new releases
niteowl7710 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Except that Tom and the other "people doing good reviews" have their video monetization turned on, so whether or you like it, you are paying them just by watching their videos. And sure you could turn a major channel into a "Free Swagorama" by trying to lure model companies to send you products to review, however that just begets the same problem that MCM and SA have. They can't do honest reviews of products, because if the company doesn't feel the review is glowing enough they will simply pull their support. SA has gone on the record this week via Mr. Haught's posting on that other forum as saying if the kit is so subpar that the review is too negative, or the kit is "unbuildable" they simply do not run the review. I haven't sent any money to Tom, but as a Content Creator I will defend his right to attempt to add additional revenue streams to his projects against such outlandish attacks that call him begging and his reviews bad because you don't understand how the system works on the platform. P.S. Tom's Patreon is a very recent development. If he doesn't put this information to his viewers, just how are they supposed to know it exists? -
2016 Revell Germany, new releases
niteowl7710 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Are you seriously that misinformed or are you just trolling Tom? Patreon accounts are not "begging for money", they are a monthly subscription service that YouTube Content Creators can use to supplement their revenue stream, and/or offset the losses from the YouTube Google AdSense when people use various Ad blockers. Tom's account happens to be set up with 6 levels of subscription from a $1/mo up to $250/mo. I'm guessing you're not an actual viewer of Tom's YouTube channel because in addition to a brief out of the box review of a given kit he then does a multi-part build review of each kit. He's a very skilled builder, and I'd not hesitate to say that any video build series he does of a kit is must see "TV" if you are planning to build the same kit yourself. Beyond that Tom has the largest channel in terms of subs and views in the automotive modeling realm, to meet his Patreon goal he just needs a couple hundred of the 23k+ people subbed to his channel to chip in some support. You also clearly have no idea how much time, effort and work goes into making any type of content that is even mildly watchable. The ability of Tom or anyone else that has the dream of being a full time YouTube content creator has nothing to do with "retiring and playing all day", it become your full time JOB. Even my weekly show between research, show prep, recording the video, post production editing, and uploading takes 10-15 hours a week. Based on the content Tom puts out, he probably coming close to working full time hours to provide FREE stuff that you then lambast because he dares offer even MORE content in exchange for revenue. Do you subscribe to MCM or SA? Is Gregg (or Jim Haught) retired and playing from the subscription money he gets for the magazine, or does he work full time providing content in exchange for revenue? Your incomprehensible rudeness is flabbergasting. If you want to support Tom you subscribe to his Patreon, if you don't like the idea, you ignore his "begging" and do nothing. Yet you apparently couldn't keep your "mouth" shut and had to blather out another irrelevant opinion (which is pretty much all you do on here - tell people what you will and won't spend your money on like any of us give the slightest wit about that) and insult someone in the process. -
2016 Revell Germany, new releases
niteowl7710 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The expected release for the U.S. is in January. Tower has it listed for $127.95 - but at least the shipping is free The hobby shop retail is gonna be $160. Considering the amount of price gripe that goes on here, I'll be interested to see how many people actually pony up and buy one. -
It has been 20 years, but AMT/Ertl reissued the kit in 1996.

Moebius 67-72 Ford Pick-up news
niteowl7710 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Right...I got the years messed up. See too many pick-ups all at once. -
You have to finesse the 850i because it's a Revell of Germany kit in a Tamiya box. When it comes to 325is there are two of them. The Tamiya kit is ALSO a reboxed Revell of Germany kit. If you're talking about the E30 generation on by Fujimi that thing is a disaster on all fronts and I don't care how much you finesse it, it's never going to look right due to the one-size-fits-all motorized chassis it rides on from it's 1980s origins that cause the body to be misproportioned in pretty much every dimension.

Brian James Trailer *UPDATED* 8/23/16*
niteowl7710 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Aoshima has pushed the release date on this kit out to February. -
I can see where making this kit full detail makes sense. Aside from the Sooooopa Turbo Charged engine being a neat item of it's own right, Group B was so short lived, it's not like there's many variations of this kit to make. Studio27 & Reji will likely take care of any liveries beyond the Martini "standard".

First Look - AMT's retooled "Flying Wedge" Rail Dragster
niteowl7710 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The only "special" thing about the release is the bigger Art Issue box with the associated print and other stuff. It'll be run in regular production numbers. -
I would say I think Round2 is pushing the limits of "Build it Stock or Custom" if a set of wheels are the only option. I mean I guess a set of mags are "custom", but it's not what most people are thinking of, or expecting out of an AMT kit. ESPECIALLY one that so closely relates to a vintage kit that DID have quite a bit of custom parts.

1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS Soap Box Derby II
niteowl7710 replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The kit isn't out yet, nor is it as of yet on available for Pre-Order on Autoworld through the end of 2016. The original link takes you to the Round2 corporate website which isn't the same thing as AutoWorld Store. When you click on the "Order @ AutoWorld" link it instead links to the Lucinda Lewis '57 Chevrolet kit. -
The box art shows the 1965 grille, which makes me think this kit was reissued this way after the Stepside came out, ergo where the wheels came from - rather than the other way around. Does it have the correct (non Chevrolet engraved) grille in there, or have they already sold this as a 1966 without the correct fender badges?
