careful, kid; you'll cut your arm off! one of my favorite machines in the fab shop i used to work for. set it and walk away... when it finished the cut, it shut off and waited for you to reset the workpiece... so, it wasn't working YOU to death!

since i have an excellent reference vehicle out in the driveway, i've been changing stuff on the two F-350's i recently acquired in order to more accurately resemble the 1:1.... first off, my truck doesn't have the wide lower chrome trim, so some smoothing out of those areas was definitely in order. my truck isn't a Camper Special with the side spare box, either, so i'm getting rid of that detail on both beds... unfortunately, i only have ONE spare Monogram F-250 bed insert to modify to represent the plain bed floor (no passenger side spare cover)... i had to cut the front wall off the Monogram piece, then remove one rib from the floor to get the width correct. the height is so nearly correct that i'm not going to fuss with that. i also need to address the gas filler doors; AMT never updated them past '76 to represent the square filler doors. then i looked at the grille..... no amount of detail painting was going to come across as holes, squared off holes at that.... so, out came the pinvise and i drilled two guide holes in each grille opening, then carefully and slowly whittled each one out, one by one.... and even after painting it, i wasn't satisfied with the openings and cleaned them out some more. it's soaking in bleach to get the rest of the chrome off, since the 1:1 isn't chrome but anodized aluminum. i've been puzzling over representing the extra lower trim that Lariats have (the 1:1 is a Lariat) in the "valley" contour down the side.... got some half round, maybe that will work.

pretty nice build; pics through the windows are neat and IN FOCUS! (something i can't do worth diddley) i'm not a fan of big rimz and never will be, but they look okay on this truck. don't worry about the wood; it's all in learning something new! -

well; what's the deal with that British model company that makes model kits of obscure old cars.... oh, yeah. there isn't one. -

call the police. this guy is killing me.... what a great job!

i need to take a closer look at one of those jobbies... this one looks great so far. are there any optional custom or hop up parts in these, or are they stock only?
-
great work; i wish i'd snagged one or more of these kits when they were widely available, but i was unsure if they were like the '57 promo type kit.... lots of neat touches and very clean work. well done!

i was thrown by the Allied armament on an Axis vehicle, myself..... it was fairly common for the Wehrmacht to lay claim to any machinery they put their hands on, but i wasn't aware that American units did much along those lines. cool model, nonetheless. amazingly, the Wehrmacht used a startling amount of horse-drawn equipment, and it was a common complaint from field commanders that their troops didn't know how to operate most motor vehicles, whereas almost every American soldier could drive a truck or jeep...... -

30 tons of "world of hurt" coming at ya.... and they look like they're all out of mercy right about now..... -
you should have no trouble at all. when the '68 new issue came out, i had a promo Charger body i put on one of the chassis... had to slice the hood open and cut the screw posts off, but the body, interior, glass and bumpers were all i had. i sold that one, stupid me...
-
i thought i might encounter that but the tub fit nice and tight and the chassis plate was snug on both sides; a seam of clear parts cement and it was done. i've actually had to put pieces of folded up paper towel between tubs and chassis plates on some kits to keep them from "rocking". that's also why i'm not quick to clean off extrusion pin marks off the backsides of some parts; they sometimes serve as "spacers", whether the moldcutter intended it or not!

minor update: if any of you have built the Roadrunner series of kits and had been wondering if the side window glass would work in the Superbee (MPC sourced) body, fret not; it does work well. sometimes seemingly similar models CAN'T share specific parts that well, but even though the instructions ignore the side glass, it fits fine; and i for one like to display models with "full" glass whenever possible. the front sheetmetal isn't a 100% fit but it works, and now i have a fiery red Superbee for the shelf...

feeding my styrene jones is getting harder to justify. it's hard on the builtups, as well.... i get really critical of past builds when raw styrene is running short. Hobbytown clearanced a boatload of higher end Tamiya, Fujimi, and Hasegawa kits a couple of years back for around 40% off, so i bit the bullet and grabbed a few. they're mostly curbsides but they're still neat old kits. i buy paint, mostly, and rack up whatever points that the Hobbytown card accumulates, then use the coupon they give me to save on a kit. i can remember after-Christmas sales at K-mart, etc when models would go for a buck or two... -

very very fine polish and a very light hand. it looks fabulous when it's carried out correctly, but it doesn't allow for mistakes. -
i had a Starliner when i was in the Navy; my shipmates called it the "batmobile" because of the sweeping lines and the fins... (not very imaginative for Navy guys, now that i think on it)... it was Wimbledon white with a black roof center, white side reveals, and a two-tone blue interior, with late '70's Thunderbird polycast rims. i made a replica of it minus the rims right after this kit came out... it was a fun car to drive, always turned heads, and never got left behind on the freeway, with it's 352 4v..... sadly, all that remains of that car is a pair of fender scripts and the radio that i put in my '61 Falcon.

i got one of these myself, the Monogram reissue with the driver. MAN is that body thin... definitely made for slotcar racing... but it is so CRISPLY MOLDED.... Italeri, have you been watching? i was puzzled by that rectangular hole in the deck also.... quickly filled that in after i read your build. i don't generally build dedicated racing cars, but there's a few i want to have in my collection; this is definitely one of them. i still can't believe you'd put that model in danger on the track.....

finally shot my second color for the roof on mine; i did the main body in Navy Blue Angels blue and the top is Ivory. funny... i did the Nomad in the same scheme..... man; i can't wait for that Chrysler to hit the shelves.

when i started building in the mid-70's, you could find kits at almost any drug store, department store, heck; even the GROCERY store had them, and of course, the one local Hobby Shop for fifty miles around.... and most car kits ran about $2.79 and JoHan kits ran $1.99.... now, one store name in locally, with two branches, and upwards of twenty five bucks. cut back on availability and make sure only specialty stores carry them.... good old business at work. -

Nick, i love to check out your builds, they really do exhibit craftsmanship. that's getting to be one realistic looking Chevy there. -
that looks horrible... in the best way! so utterly non-inviting and unhealthful.... perfect!
