AMT Lowboy?
ap40rocktruck replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave, yes on a truck, 35 ton US = 70,000 pounds capacity. The problem is the outside frame, the load would have to be spread evenly both across & length wise on the deck. It is rather easy to cut it up & make a fixed neck drop deck, with moving the beams to the center. so that the run with the same width as the rails over the tri axle suspension. Then make new deck side extensions & it would be able to haul the D8 -

By bogie, you mean a tandem axle instead of a tri axle. If so, then NO. -
AMT Lowboy?

yes Loadcraft, 35 ton, outside frame. In real life if you were to load a Cat D8H on it, it would break the trailer. The kit is accurate & true to the late 60's - early 70's design. -
007 ton tri axle lowboy

I suspect it reads 80,000 pound cap, which equals 40 ton US. -

interesting, although it is more like a 40 ton, with only 3 axles, on light weight air suspension and very small main beams. More pics? -

Mack engine, trans & drive axles gave you a GOLD dog. Any vendor engine, regardless of drive train, a Chrome dog was standard Now if the DM was a factory 4x2, with ONE drive axle, Then this is a DM-400T (T - tractor) -
Paystar 5000 Mixer PTO Problem
ap40rocktruck replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Force said, square, when i ran a Mack dealership's service shop, every snow plow or RDG mixer that came in the shop with the FEPTO, the hole is always square. Factory or custom fab shop, it is just not possible to get a good seal with a round hole. Also, all of the units i have seen & or wrenched on, the inside of the square hole has stiffener / armor plates added. this is to protect the rad in case the FEPTO shaft fails. Works along the same idea as a drive shaft loop on a race car. Ap40 -
Paystar 5000 Mixer PTO Problem
ap40rocktruck replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well if you want to make the model accurate, then you will need to fab a pass thru in the radiator for a shaft to connect the front bottom pulley to the Hydraulic pump. Keep in mind the age of the kit, the mixer was a after thought from the original version with the high side dump box. The complete drive connection "FEPTO" was never included in this or the Mack DM-800 mixer kit. FEPTO = Front Engine Power Take Off. Hope this helps, Ap40 -

The rarest AMT truck model?

Clearly the winner, when it comes to licencing, weather it be by manufacturer or sponsor, if the lawyers are not happy, NO one is happy. Ap40 -
Chassis question.
ap40rocktruck replied to checkmate's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In today's market, there really is no limit to how long the tractor can be, Once the Federal Government did away with the overall length limitation for a truck & trailer combination, there were 2 notable changes in American truck manufacturing and sales. 1, It was the immediate death of the manufacturing of cab overs. Being that here in the states the only real reason for making them was to keep the tractor short & the trailer long for cargo space. 2, it started the free for all of the "Mega sleeper" since you could have a BBC of 20' in front of a 53' van trailer with no state to state restrictions, it signaled the birth of the "Large Car". Ironically, as I have witnessed 1st hand, just because one can have a super long tractor, does in no way mean the driver can make the turns in most of the east coast city's, or back up in tight spaces. But each to his own, and if nothing else, the comedy of the shortfalls make for fun viewing. Ap40 -

Nice colors & more spoke wheels! So what was the fleet number for this one? Ap40 -
Nice build. The "tow bar" is called the Reach, which by the way in this Peerless kit is severely under sized. the correct size for the reach would be 3/8" square. then the receiver tube in the trailer will need to be enlarged to accept the larger reach.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?

Brake fluid is NOT recommended as it will have negative effects to the chemistry of the styrene. The very best is EZ-off in the yellow can. works on kit styrene & resin just the same. Ap40
