"National racing colors of Estonia"
ra7c7er replied to ra7c7er's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"National racing colors of Estonia" is a line Jeremy Clarkson says after he paints his Alfa Romeo a weird green color for a Alfa car show. The full line is "I'm just going to tell the judges it's the national racing colors of Estonia." I didn't find anything the archive only goes back to 1995 and FIA got rid of National colors in 1977 but their is a ton of really cool information in the archive it's a nice way to see a little bit of the inner workings of FIA. -

I don't know why but it is one of my favorite lines from Top Gear. Honestly though just about every episode has some great one liners. --- Here is a scan from the AIACR 1936 rule book (it's in french but it's fairly easy to figure out) http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7588/scan0019c.jpg -
I am looking for national racing colors lists. Everything from way back in 1903, when national racing schemes were first introduced, to 1975 and the last national racing colors update with the FIA and A1GP colors. I have found several lists but they do not say where or when they were from and they are incomplete and in some cases incorrect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_auto_racing_colors - this is a mixed list of FIA, A1GP, and several other lists. http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=53357 - FIA's final national colors update in 1975, scroll down to post #20 I know many countries are not listed and I have read countries were not assigned a FIA national color until you had a entrant in a International FIA race. Outside of that though many countries have official national racing colors if anyone knows of any list them up.

BMF, I don't want to do this.

I can't add anymore to what has been mentioned. Just go slow and change blades often. -
I really like decal paper from Papilo and Lazertran. For the most part I have found all the decal paper to be pretty much the same. Testors and Avery decal paper are decent and easily available. BMF's decal paper is nice but to me is nothing special for the price since there paper is branded and comes from the same place that makes decal paper for several other brands. Decalpaper.com has pretty good decal paper I used to use them for my RC and slot cars and will probably use them for my models when I need custom decals.

why I haven't been around
ra7c7er replied to walt francis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know how that is. I am not allowed to model outside of the "model room" which is a 7x5 walk in closet. Our carpet isn't that bad yet but we had to tear up some of the kitchen floor when a pipe under the sink busted. For seven months now we have been walking on two pieces of plywood screwed to the floor joists. --- The kitchen floor and island looks cool. I like the carpet color too but we have two dark haired cats so I would never be able to buy anything that light. -
This ones for you Jairus

LITTLE RED WAGON "THE ORIGINAL WHEELSTANDER"
ra7c7er replied to Missing in Action's topic in Model Car Racing
It really depends on where you are in the country. I have found that their are more commercial tracks in colder climates. Racing slot cars is a huge winter sport. The further south you go the less tracks are publicly available. -
Clearing NASCAR models.
ra7c7er replied to Toast's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Depends on who you talk to. Penske does it at every track because with there background with open wheel cars all the teams do it there. From what I have seen only a handful of Nascar teams do it. Almost all on the big tracks but only about a handful at the smaller tracks. Also the clear is used to help hold the number graphics down. If your number comes off the car it is actually a black flag till you get another one on the car. -

The proper way to hold a contest and to put out a burnout engine fire. The fire department is at the ready and they know how to use their hoses Oh yeah and the driver was smart enough to shut the car off. What a burnout fire should be. -
ALMS...lost another one

We wouldn't have to argue about all this if Speed would just change their name to "Nascar Network". -
I don't mind buying tools from Harbor Freight but I don't buy anything with electronics, Hydraulic, or anything that needs more than my own force to use. I have bought and had to return weight scales, an air compressor, and even had to return 6 floor jacks in a row because they all leaked and didn't hold pressure. I quit shopping there after that.

WOW. This is the best Midget I have seen so far. You really raised the bar.

That's probably a good thing. If you did know who your wife was and you weren't married you would probably be in a special home where they only let you build snap kits because you can't have glue or x-acto blades. Or you could be making a ton of money with psychic hot lines. -

Just stupid maybe he will learn or maybe he will take is insurance money and buy another toy he can ruin. Do you think insurance pays in this scenario? -

Really I hope you are exagerating when you say you don't know any of them. There are many world famous drivers in the ALMS series. How could you have a pod cast covering racing and not claim to know anyone. that would be like me making podcasts of my girlfriends knitting club. Boris Said - one of the best American road course racers Sacca Massen - Former F-1 driver Jan Magnussen - Former F-1 driver Brabbam - Seriously if you don't know that name you shouldn't be report anything in racing. Patrick Dempsey - Really you don't know who that is because i bet your wife does Johnny O'Connell - The best American road course racer has won Le Mans 4 times and is the ONLY American driver to do so I could go on and on. And I highly doubt that 1000 fans is a few %. The last three years ALMS racing is the ONLY major form of racing that saw INCREASED attendance. Nascar has declined in attendance and so has IRL. Many the smaller organizations are seeing increases it isn't just ALMS. I don't mean that first part to sound like I am attacking you. It's just that you can't say you don't know any of them. -

My entry for the contest was just squashed by my cat. So I am out. I don't think I can build another in the amount of time left. -

Part of the ownership group that runs ASA is also involved in Nascar. Ok so not all but part of. There is a lot of Nascar people and money in ASA, ARCA, and just about every other race series in the US. Just because it isn't advertised as such doesn't mean it isn't there. BTW the same ownership group that owns Nascar also owns partial interest in Grand-Am. Nascar owns more than you think they do they are just good at hiding behind shell companies. Kind of like WalMart. I watch all sorts of racing even Nascar. Heck I just spent an hour and a half watching announcers drone on about blah blah while nobody was practicing at Daytona. I will watch the truck race tonight and root for a couple of my friends. I just take it for what it is and Nascar is the Dictatorship of American racing and until someone with enough money and power steps up to fight them that's the way it will be. -
Can I be your daughters boyfriend? The only thing my current girlfriends parents give me is grief.

Actually ALMS and Grand-Am racing is the current fastest growing motorsport in the U.S. part of that reason in the last five or so years was the fact that it was Televised. ALMS races are televised all throughout Europe. If you have Speed Channel and haven't seen an ALMS/Grand-Am event in the last five years it's because you have decided not to watch it not because it isn't there. I have to disagree. With sponsorships from companies like McDonalds, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. SCCA racing in the higher classes has become just another series with overpaid drivers. ASA is really cool but the only reason why they didn't fold is because Nascar bought them. If you want really racing head out to your local dirt track on a weekend and watch your neighbors who's family have probably been racing for 50+ years fight it out. So much more emotion on he track and honestly the talent is great too.
