Hey guys; Finally finished up the old entex 1/8 Martini porsche RSR....man what a headache! I had the car completely built, went to apply the decal art; and that went south in a hurry....the decals just disintegrated when they hit water for the most part. I had to back mask the entire car and use a combo of airbrush work and pinstripe brushes to get the Martini graphic stripes done....Now I know why you never see this car built anywhere....If you have one....just leave it in the box; that's where it's best... I tried to load pix here; but they are just TOO big @ 2.0 MB , so I did load some finished pix to the RSR page on my site; check it out if you get time...........as for me; I am on to not one; but two 1/5 scale 956's, the #1 & 2 Rothman's cars from Lemans 1982 Matt www.monkeyclawmodels.com

ALABAMA-HOBBY SHOP?
monkeyclaw replied to mytricia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Marty; R/C hobby on Meridian St in HSV is your best bet...the hobbytown over by university doesn't carry much plastic at all. The only swap meet In the area is the vendor section at the HSV model show last week....and the model show up in murfreesboro is usually pretty good for buying stuff...Welcome to Alabama...get used to internet shopping!!! building a model for money ?
monkeyclaw replied to dabelltoller's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I would say that doing commissioned builds has kept me busy for some time...mostly racing cars....the best advice I could give : make sure that YOU are interested in the subject matter....otherwise it REALLY does become work! If you agree to build a model you hate; or that the base kit is just junk to start with; it makes you far less motivated to get it done...I say that from experience; as I am just now finishing a giant 1/8 scale Porsche that has been no fun at all................matt -
I use real fiberglass on my projects...my LHS carries different "scaled" cloths and mats intended for use on R/C flying planes....I cut templates; then use tamiya clears (yellow/green/orange) to make the brownish resin look; then wet out the cloth with the mix...looks pretty convincing when done....I use this method on all of my Tamiya 1/12 porsche fuel cells and engine "tins"...........Matt

Yes the SPF cars are windsor powered; but I saw several of them at road atlanta that were done with supercharged aluma-fords.........Matt -
Revell Mustang GT500 1/12 Scale, Hawaiian Style
monkeyclaw replied to Gregg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I saw the pre-production model at NNL east this year... Just my kind of model; I tried endlessly to get my hands on a pre-release model to do some resin body kit parts for this car; but just couldn't get one. I have ordered a couple; and will be chopping up at least one donor, so I can do wheel arches, new front and rear fascia panels, rockers, and a rear splitter.... A couple of new hoods may be in order as well....The 1:1 car is hugely popular; so there are a lot of possibilites....just the modern ford V8 alone will be awesome to transplant into other 1/12 scale projects....like the trumpeter GT40! Now we will be able to do a superformance version of the GT40.... I just hope my gimpy hands will let me keep up with all of the possible builds from this new kit.......Matt -

Need help please
monkeyclaw replied to Bill Edman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I am currently working up a custom pete in 1/16...rather thsn using the usual relocating methods; I am just making all new suspension for the truck; using an all new drop front axle (often if you relocate to top of springs, you will encounter clearance issues with oil pan); the rears are just shorter versions of the pete 1/2 leaf/ bag setups...it will drop the truck about 9 inches in scale....this one is gonna be a show truck....so it's all about looks..........Matt -

Need help with colour
monkeyclaw replied to skulls's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That green is more like "limetime" ....grabber green is way too blue/gray toned....if you want a spray bomb; check out the model masters lacquers...one of the "classic" mopar greens will be close...if you are spraying....just go to your local auto paint dealer that sells PPG products; they can mix it right off the generic color charts...BTW......you will want to prime/base it with white first...that way you will acheive the truest green tone..........Matt -
any ideas on how to obtain a finish like this ?
monkeyclaw replied to Greg Myers's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
For the blower texture & color; try using a spray can of "cast - cote" get it from most auto parts stores..matt -

monkeyclaw replied to monkeyclaw's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Rick; it took me a while to get back at it....I finally have something to share. Been working on detailing out the new "inline 6" for my current Pete 353 project in 1/16....coming along nicely; being so big lends itself to plenty of extra details....Just finished casting up the tires for this project as well; for the flotation fronts I used the Can-do as a pattern; and for the rears I used the old Paystar rears for a pattern.... this truck is going to be pulling a log train.......matt -
