  1. You could also try heating up the can itself....This generally works for me....By heating the can you can "push" the paint to flash quicker, which gives it far less time for the cool/wet air to "haze" or "blush" the color.....this will also provide much better flow from the can; and will lay the finish down very smooth when wet coated; which means far less effort to polish after clear. You can also hold the freshly sprayed parts up to a heat source 100watt light bulb; and move them back & forth slowly; as you are doing this, you will see the paint "melt" right down flat on the surface; again, resulting in far less work when polishing.....these techniques haved worked well for me over the years......I hope it helps...........matt
  2. I like it; I like it alot! I have a 1/16 scale project to do that is somewhat similar; converting the Trumpeter M15 from quad.50 to flatbed that hauled Pattons casket....Again; great work....keep posting..........Matt
  3. I do agree with you there... The proper equipment Always helps...........and you point is valid matt
  4. I would have to disagree with you about winter equipment..... on my part anyway... I rode my old beater suzuki GS650 all winter in 1992....In and out of chicago every day....even in a foot and a half of snow....The vredstein snow tire from germany did help quite a bit!!! .... So did the snowmobile suit... matt
  5. Wow; Haven't seen the studio in a while.....I didn't realize how much it had been reworked over the last couple years; as I haven't seen one for some time...it is nice to see that the interior patterns were kept though....that was alot of work..........matt
  6. for me: Best: 1994 towncar, Heavy, sticks like glue Worst: 2008 dodge charger (RENTAL) Enterprise thought it was the same as the cadillac I reserved... every time I stepped on the gas' the back of the car was in front of me! AND 1993 Harley dyna Low Rider....not much fun to ride down the mountain during winter snow...BRRRRR! matt
  7. I used my own gray/blue mix for the 1/16 scale truck............matt
  8. Kurt; Super nice!!! Can you post pix of the table saw??? I really need to get one; along with a couple other devices....just want to see how big it is etc......matt
  9. Dave; Thanks; The work is going slower than before; but I was prepared for that.....hey; if you do the detroit 12; then I don't have to LOL... As for the little window; if memory serves, the old amt kit cabs were the same size; only the height was different, and of course the smaller windows....I'll have to look.... I am also setting up small (36") bunk kits for both pete and Kw 1/16 kits; which will allow builders a couple more options over just the base kits.... as soon as these are done (next month) ; I will be starting on a KW "AERO" cab, and W900L bonnet, so that we will have at least ONE modern truck option in 1/16 scale....at this point it looks like ther W900L bonnet will also morph into T-908 form for the Aussie market as well. Modelers can also look forward to a couple more engine and wheel and tire options in 2010 as well.................matt
  10. Hey guys; here's my 1st post surgery project; it's an exhood for the 1/16 pete kit...it is 8" longer than what's in the kit, I am doing both stock and custom fenders for it....more stuff coming soon; trying to get this new hand working again..........matt
  11. Aaron; I haven't seen any of that type of equipment down in the price range you are looking....that being said; I have been researching the same type machines for a while....I did see a company on ebay that has complete rabbit cnc machines, with the dell laptop and software to drive it for around $5000.....that's about the least expensive machine I have found; and if memory serves; those machines cut in X,Y,and Z axis.... For me it's a matter of time until both hands don't function; but I want to continue working; putting out new model products; so I won't have a choice but to go digital.... The other option I have explored is finding a good engineering company in your area that has 3-d scanning /printing and CNC capability....Having projects done this way is usually more costly than doing it yourself; but less expensive than buying the equipment...The BIG cost is in the digital modeling time...getting the 3-d model "right" fopr whatever machine is doing the work....You can always feel free to email or call me; I can try to give you as much info as I can.... the one handed typing is really slow (LOL)..........Matt
  12. The Isx is the "600" version; and indeed there are plenty of images, if you go to google images....you can get just about every view of the engine there.........matt
  13. HEY! You guys forgot about the "tounament of thrills" set! It had the C600 ford, Haulaway trailer, and the stunt cars (49 merc) I think...just trying to help........matt
  14. Jason; I did two versions of the condo a couple years back....those molds are now with budd ricker at riversedgeresins.com but I think the condo molds are no longer viable....the good news: I just finished a re-master of the classic XL hood/grill for Budd; and he will be casting the new "corrected" hood version shortly. you can reach bud at the following email addy sheri_budd@yahoo.com . I hope this info helps........matt
  15. get ahold of line-o-tape...they have it.........matt
  16. Len; I use laser cut vinyls all the time; I have a sign/graphics shop here locally that does them for me; and they work great for paint masks; but you really need them to be low-tack if you are using hot paint like lacquer or urethane bases. If you simply want the posative roundels; use mylar rather than vinyl; as it is much thinner; and buries well under clears....I hope this helps............matt
  17. Jim; cool little truck.....nice to see you getting one done.....matt
  18. Buba; most pulling trucks will be stripped down....just the basics inside...one seat, shifter, tach and oil guages....maybe boost as well....some have a basic cage inside as well....as for the pulling motor....only one choice DETROIT 12 cylinder, with TWO superchargers on top; and FOUR TURBOS.......that's the setup... you will also want to omit the 5th wheel; and add a weight box over the back axles.....I hope this helps matt
  19. Bob; We'll see you there; looking forward to another great show.........matt
  20. Tim; NICE!!! It's great to see you apply all of your skills on custom! This should be one nice truck when you are done.........matt
  21. Very cool old truck......nice work..........matt
  22. Gregg; I think you have my mailing info....you can feel free to send it to me............matt
  23. Scott; looking good! I like the colors....I did my room a color called "capuccino" , Very light....goes nicely with all the blonde wood I am using...It's great to have a "hobby" room to go and get it all done.....Also; will be going to the ipms nats this August....since they are right there in Columbus???? Lonnie and I will coming for the last couple days (fri & Sat) so we hope to see you there man.............Matt
