  1. Plastruct stairways! Check out this thread I started a while back. The ones I'm using aren't wide enough for what you want to do but they come in different sizes. Maybe another size would be right. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19621&st=0&p=182274&hl=mothra&fromsearch=1&#entry182274 BTW, I never have finished that build! One of these days!
  2. OMG!!! I can already see the leadsleds that thing's gonna spawn!!
  3. Great looking build! The color looks really classy on the Coronet. As far as the kit's accuracy, I have a slight problem with the contour of the side trim compared to the real thing but, that said, I still have a couple of the kits stashed away for future builds.
  4. Back in the day I built several of the "AMT" Coronets. It was one of my favorite kits and I never suspected the MPC connection. Later I bought one of the MPC '67 Chargers and I was astounded by all the familiar parts in the box! Couldn't figure it out. I'd love to hear the AMT/SMP story. The kits, boxes, everything was so similar that I figured they were really the same company using two different brand names. Can't wait to read about that!
  5. Maybe you could try to contact the Petty Museum and they may be able to help you out. That's the best idea I have. I wish you the best of luck because I'd love to see it when you're done!
  6. Two of my favorite cars right there and the quality looks great. Just curious - is there a reason for the yellow resin or is that just how it looks with the lighting in the photo?
  7. I'm in love!! That couldn't be any sweeter.
  8. I don't recommend or at least advise great caution if you try super glue and micro-balloons. Obviously, not all micro-balloons are alike! I also build canoes and kayaks as a hobby and always have boat building supplies on hand including some brownish colored "phenolic micro-balloons" from System Three (a well known producer of epoxies and other boat materials). The INSTANT that the super glue and micr-balloons came into contact enough heat was generated to melt the disposal plastic cup that they were mixed in. It also released some very nasty smelling and probably toxic fumes. Fortunately, I didn't catch that full in the face but I won't be repeating that experiment! The System Three microballoons were intended to be mixed with epoxy and they work great like that. I've heard of other people using super glue and micr-balloons successfully so there must be different types but I think I'll just avoid the whole thing!
  9. Does anybody know any tips for creating emblems and especially scripts from scratch. A lot of emblems can be done by cutting the general shape from sheet styrene and then applying a decal. Scripts can be "stolen" by foil casting if you have a source to copy from but how would you make a raised script from scratch? I know there are some great casters on this forum! Any tips, guys?
  10. I agree with the #30 wrapping wire for plug wires. It's available from Radio Shack but not in black. They have red, white and blue. I Googled #30 wrapping wire and found an electronics supplier on-line (don't remember who) that had it in black. For other wires, plumbing, etc. there is a large variety of items in the jewelry section of Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. Just browse around there and get creative!
  11. Interesting point! I'm not really into diecast but it could be a great source of bits and pieces for a conversion project. Thanks for the idea!
  12. One of these would be nice: 1/25 scale, please!
  13. Fabulous!! You don't see many builds that are so convincing.
  14. I should have recognized it instantly. I used to own a "Pushreallywell" but mine was a coupe!
  15. On vinyl tires, always use acrylic. Enamel will never dry properly.
  16. I would SERIOUSLY want something besides that little bitty windshield between me and all the junk that propeller would send in my direction!!
  17. Don't like the brush that came attached to the top of your bottle of Ambroid or whatever? You know, the one you could paint your house with. Here's a solution. One picture pretty much says it all. I just pulled out the old brush, cut a microbrush to length and epoxied it into the cap. Done!
  18. Who'da thunk it?? A cool Gremlin! That's great work.
  19. Geez!! I'm not sure that thing meets all the mandatory safety regs for a 1915 model. But it sure is KOOL!
  20. Cool! There have been various attempts to revive the Morgan 3 wheeler concept in the past but this is the first American one that I'm aware of. It looks like a blast! Oh my! I just looked at the link and discovered that this one is a real Morgan with a Harley twin. All the others were copycats. I wonder what the cost will be? Too much I suspect.
  21. Maybe this should go in "Tips and Tricks" but this seems like where it's needed at the moment. You don't need to use up a whole sheet to print a few decals. What you can do is first print on plain paper as a test shot. If it looks okay, cut some small pieces of decal paper a little bigger than the image. Tape them directly over the images that you just printed with removable double sided tape. Now run it back through again and you have individual decals. I'll try to dig up some pictures of the process and post them either here or in the Tips section.
  22. These guys are still a bit upset about Studebaker: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/ They have more than 12,500 members! The largest single make car club in the world.
  23. Actually, the wrinkles are backwards on one side and frontwards on the other! He's doing tight donuts!
  24. What about the Marcos GT? It was a 1960's British sports/race car with a plywood monocoque chassis. http://www.britishracecar.com/AndySeward-Marcos-GT.htm
  25. If three people got it right I don't think it's too hard. The fun is digging into automotive history and looking for clues and this one caused a lot of digging even though I never figured it out. Keep 'em coming!
