Imai-kit. Almost out of the box but added custom-ordered wheels, custom steering wheel, lowered suspension and backdated it to 1973 configuration. Paint is stock VW moss green metallic.

Here's what's on my bench at the moment. Taking part in a VW buildoff with showdate july 2nd this year! Imai kit with some minor mods, 18" Lemmertz wheels, paint will be stock 1973 VW moss green metallic. Lotsa "wood-work" to the interior....

2-part polyurethan based clear will not turn yellow over the years, nor will acrylic clear. Any enamel clear will turn yellow. It's all about chemistry, not product brand.

Well, I'll omit all the "motorization-stuff" and put plastic card in a lot of holes in the chassie-pan. But, I will NOT open up the engine lid and I'm not going toi build a better engine. I just took off all that chrome on the engine dummy before I glued it in place. So, this will be a curbside with some extra detailing to the interior (modern stereo) and custom steering wheel.

There's VW build-off going on here in Sweden right now. All attenders build a VW type 1 Bug but can chose which kit they like, even in other scales than 1/24-25. I'm doing 2..... One Showrod and one almost stock , that's the Imai 1/24 scale VW 1303 LS Convertible. This model got it's ID/VIN from a 1973 Sumatra Green VW seen in a swedish TV-series in the late 90's. But, I'll change the color to L95C Moss green metallic and replace the stock 15" Lemmertz-wheels with specially-ordered 18x8" Lemmertz-wheels. It'll also get some small mods to the front Bumpers, get fender-mounted turn-signals and twin pipes on the right side of the muffler. Perhaps I'll give it a nice custom steering-wheel as well.... not sure yet.

Thanks, yeah it was a real blast to build. I went to bed every night for 4 weeks with a big smile in my face! Yep, It was finished a week ahead of "showtime" ! I believe I put about 100 hours total in this build and a LOT of scratchbuilding was done. Loads of plastic card, Evergreens profiles and stretched sprue used, along with 2 PEZ-dispensers. Unknown source for the chassie as I needed the stock one for something else Interior bucket from AMT 1959 Camino w stock Belvedere dash. The saw and axe in the coffin compartment are 100% scratchbuilt . The trunk "Plymouth-emblem" was cut off and repositioned below the new rear lid.

This last christmas I once again took part in a Christmas build-off from Dec 12th to Jan 16th and this year we all got a Plymouth Belvedere to build. To really challenge myself before these buildoffs, I always decide on a "theme" to myself, already without knowing what model it'll be. This year I actually decided on 2 Theme's, 6 wheels and Santa Claus-elated, kind of a spin-off on last christmas build when I built Santas Gasser using a 66 Wildcat as platform. I only used about 14 parts from the box, body, glass and chome mostly, and the rest was leftovers from my parts boxes.

I really like this one and the colour is really nice while that foldable roof sets it off and gives it more of a gentlemans custom look! I'm really sorry I saw this thread this late. I built an AMT 70½ Camaro as a lowrider a couple of years ago using your first choise of wheels (golden spokes) . Yes, it was a bit tricky and I had to put a couple of hours working on the chassie to make it work, but I managed! My model is no way that nice as yours , but mine was built in a period of just 5-6 weeks around Christmas.

I had an old 1960 gluebomb which I restored and rebuilt as a mild custom.

I made my own "see thru" hood for a 1966 Wildcat.

Cool, I gonna follow this. Have an unbuilt one myself in the mancave....
