In the path of destruction
Sam Cates replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad to see I am not the only victim. The biggest issue is, it wasn't finished. I had it sitting on the hobby table, all I had left to add was a battery and front shocks... All my finished stuff is up where they can't reach, but I have plans now to buy a couple LOCKING cases. -
Well, this truck has become a casualty twice in a week now, the first time it was dropped by my grandson, lost a tire and a mirror, no big deal. This afternoon while I was away doing laundry, my wife was caring for my nephew (since his own mother won't). I the blink of an eye, he grabbed the truck from the table, and spiked it across the room, I still haven't located all the pieces. WTH?! Anyone else have these issues with small children or animals, or photographic evidence?

selling collections
Sam Cates replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely shoot me a PM with a list too Bruce, there should be a way to add more members to the message recipient list, I don't remember how though, buzz around the new message page when you get the list ready, should find it. -
I got the "itch" again...
Sam Cates replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good call guys. I scratched my itch just this morning...We bought my daughter a puppy for her 12th birthday a couple months ago, cute little SOB, but she hasn't acquired the patience and resposibility to handle such a creature (Jack Russell/Chihuahua). So last night she made the responsible decision to give him up to someone who could give him the time and love he needs and my wife got a few bucks out of the deal (rehoming fee). First thing I did was finagle $13 from the missus for a kit I saw at the LHS yesterday... I tell my wife the same thing Rob, my hobby is FAR more constructive and safe than some others I used to have. Glad to see this topic got going a bit! -
So, I was kicking around boxes while re-organizing and arranging my room, I know I have plenty of stuff to build, goodness knows I have PLENTY of stalled projects to get back to...but I found myself taking a break and surfing ebay and CL. I don't even have any money to spend! Before I knew it I was searching for more large scale drag stuff (saw a post for 1/16 stuff in the trades forum). Then I was looking at the aftermarket sites and making lists of what I want to get as soon as I get back to school and work...WTH? Anyone else get the "itch" at the worst times, and if so, what do you look for and where? Where do you find the best bargains, and how do you talk yourself down from a wallet meltdown? I need to know I am not the only plastic junkie in the world...

Freakin' sweet! I have always wanted to build a 1:1 with a 2-stroke Detroit. Excellent inspiration material!

Good Ol' Murphy and his brother Frank

Next time watch out for his other brother Darrel! -
Welcome! Those all look great, but I especially dig the Beetle with the big stinger. Very cool!

Groovy build! I love what you did with it, excellent weathering techniques. Similar to what I am doing with my bug, rust and rot outside, clean and new inside. I want to get a couple of those but I haven't had a chance.

I bought a couple kits there a while back IIRC, easy to buy/sell and it's free. Go for it! -
Scale chain-link fence

Wireform is what I use, comes in different shapes and sizes, I found it in the clay/pottery section at the art supply store. http://www.sculpt.com/catalog_98/wireform/WireForm1.htm -
What kind of music.....
Sam Cates replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well for me it kind of depends on what I am building. For instance, if I am building anything stock or custom from the 50's and earlier, I listen to stuff like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIwlKLB8RpI&feature=g-all-u&context=G29f5953FAAAAAAAABAA or when I am building drag stuff or 60's-70's stuff, I listen to this Ofcourse there are deviations here and there... Metal, butt rock, 80's pop and what not. -
AWESOME! That looks GREAT in every way, what color is that?

This is the turd I am driving now, '66 with the original 1300. Heck, everything but the tires are original, even the spark plugs were Bosch of Germany until I changed them. Hoping this spring I'll have this beast running again, needs new pistons/rings/bearings. '85 Nissan 720 4x4.

Hey, that doesn't belong under glass, it isn't finished! Very cool, I like the engine detail and the empty cab!

Friggin' sweet! Tom Kendall (friend of mine) told me he went to the local second hand stores asking why he hadn't seen model kits in a long time, turns out they throw them out. I confirmed a few weeks ago as I inquired for myself, they told us "Unless we know they are complete, we just throw them out." So if anything is open or built, they hit the dumpsters...VERY unfotunate, so I am going to have a chat with managers, to see if I can't leave them my phone number and email address, so that if they do get kits built or not, I can "donate cash for their trash" Very nice that some stores don't just huck it if its opened!

LOVE IT!!!!! It looks almost like mine! Very nice job with the rust and body panels, it looks extremely convincing. Almost thought it was a 1:1 before I took a better look at the photos!

Well, I know fuel prices are up, which means oil prices are up. At the last local club meeting I attended it was announced that two of our LHS (White Elephant, where I get MOST of my new kits) will no longer be stocking Round2 products because they have to order through a distributor, and they have priced themselves out of the market, making it VERY tough to compete with the chain stores here. We were also told the Revell has raised the order minimum $2000 more than what it already was. Fuel is running $3.53 to $3.61 for regular unleaded and will probably continue to climb. I am not too concerned with that because there are few if any shows/swap meets hobby wise in my area. That combined with my little Beetle that is EXCELLENT on fuel consumption, it doesn't concern me too much. Between driving to school and back every day, and running errands on weekends, it takes about 3 weeks to use a full tank of fuel, and it only has a 10.6 gallon tank. Base oil price drives the price of fuel and styrene (as with all oil based products), all will continue to rise as long as the base oil price does. All we can do is shop smart, drive less, and be thankful that we are not paying what some overseas countries are.

Absolutely superb! Very nice job on all aspects of the build, I would certainly be proud to have that in my collection.

Well I guess I will jump in on this one, I have a '66 Riviera I have put on hold for far too long!
