Scooby Van
Sam Cates replied to kruleworld's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Like wow! That looks excellent! I never would have thought to build a Mystery Machine from that kit, and it turned out quite nice!! -
It was actually an RC2 repop of the '72 kit, and he bought the coversion because at the time it was cheap, suposedly "easy", and he couldn't find the MPC '70 kit. I showed it to him this afternoon, seeing how it turned out and being a bit disappointed with letting it go, he offered to "buy" it back

Best Chromed Engine
Sam Cates replied to JMD904's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You could go AMT Allison or try one of the Revell parts pak engines, the entire engines are chrome. SBC 283 Cadillac 354 Pontiac 421 Ford 427 -
Well...What can I say? I got an AMT 1972 GTO kit from a friend (he just gave it to me) and now I know why! Typical 70's AMT kit, one piece chassis with most of the suspension molded in, low parts count with no exterior mirrors and VERY little engine bay detail. While thumbing through the box I found a small ziploc bag with some resin stuff in it, a '70 GTO conversion kit, presumably from Dencon, and definitely cast from an old MPC '70 GTO kit. The resin wasn't GREAT, but wasn't terrible for being cast from such an old kit, and it went together well once the proper measurments and incisions were made. The rear bumper from the kit was probably a scale foot too long for the car, so I cut it down. I also added some engine detail but not too much modifying was down (to keep frustration levels down) I bought a set of decals from Kieth Marks, and I must say, they are EXCELLENT! Turned out beautifully. Alas, I have misplaced the dual exhaust tips I bought for it, and my grandson broke the rear spoiler off the other day while I was at school. It was a scratch built piece because I have not yet located the correct deck spoiler. So I am now in the proccess of making another... Anyway, turns out you CAN polish a turd! Comments and criticisms welcome!

Wow, that is UBER cool! I love everything about it, NICE WORK!!
-
Very cool, I have several of the LAPD issue, great kit, and yours looks VERY nice! For being an 18 yo build, it survived quite well!
-
Oh that is beautiful, I love the subtle custom changes, was that a resin body or some of your own scratch building? Either way, VERY NICE!

No joke! I see it every year, I don't neccesarily care if they continue to show it, but if they continue to with the same awards every year, it irks me a bit. This topic also bleeds over the 1:1 car shows. As part of the Inland Northwest Camaro Club, I attend MANY car shows, and am very involved in the INWCC show every year. We used to have an "Under construction" class for folks with project cars they like to show, and a few years back, I remember several cars (several years in a row) entered in the UC class, and nothing had been done to them. The 1st place winner with his 99.9% finished '59 El Camino, brought it in every year, with everything completed (BEAUTIFULLY) except the wood in the bed...therefore calling it a project.

Insanity! One of these days Ken, I need to pick your brain to get a good idea of what I need to get my gas station and abandoned shed dioramas going. Frickin' AMAZING WORK!

Very cool, love that all the doors are open. I have one sitting on the bench with the hood cut out. That color looks good and the wheel choice is excellent! -
Beautiful Curt, it just looks so right!

What Would You Show Up In?
Sam Cates replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh man, Dave had the right idea with the Tucker, such a beautiful car. But I think I would have to go with this little gem, since mine isn't quite to this stage, yet! ......or maybe one of these? -
For all you chevy truck guys
Sam Cates replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never was there a factory extended/crew cab option for the Chevrolet pickup in the 1950's. However, a search online can turn up custom works such as these. -
It certainly looks to me like it went together well, nice job! Though I am not a fan of M-M-M-Muuu, Muuuu-staangs, it looks quite nice!

'29 Ford pickup "Deep purple"
Sam Cates replied to ERIC L's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
WOW, that truck looks spectacular! The color is super sweet, and SHINY. You did a great job with that old kit! -
Very cool, the vert conversion looks nice and clean, as does the interior!
-
Oh I love these vintage track builds, especially the lesser common models. Very nice job on this one!
-
Killer, the paint looks amazing, and the detail is quite nice! All around beautiful build!
-
LOW and smooth, just the way they were, NICE!
-
Very cool, I like the smooth look, color suites it well, wheels look great on it and the engine detail is nice!
-
SUPER GROOVY! What kit is that? I want one, since I bought myself the 1:1 '66 I caught "the bug" so to speak, and have been snatching up every "air-cooled" kit I can find! That rainbow pearl looks sweet on the chrome, and I love the action shots with the front wheels in the air! From what I have read, it only takes around 175hp to pull the front end off the ground in one of those!

A Feast of Snakes (Two Cobras Are Deadlier than One!)
Sam Cates replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Model Cars
Both of those look stellar, but I especially love the green, one of my favorite colors, on a GREAT kit of a GREAT car! You did an amazing job on these Virgil, as always! But you don't need me to tell you that! -
that looks sooo cool, takes me back to the indoor shows I went to with my pop when I was a kid, I always loved the fenderless raked rods with huge motors and wild custom interior! You captured the look VERY well! Congrats!

Very cool, I have an old built up that was shattered courtesy of a small child some time ago, may get that out soon and rebuild it. With the flat black and the simple interior, and ofcourse the 427, it looks like a few of the street/strip cars I see at the local track! Excellent!
