  1. Kyped from the net. I've heard of cruising in the lap of luxury but heart be still! Labeled as a 1971 Star Streak Motorhome. Members around San Diego may know more about this. Like an old couple gazing upon a painting of Kramer from Seinfeld, "It turns my stomach... yet I can't look away!" Now, on to Wally World!

    Some rust

As for me, I'm a believer.
  3. I remember these from the auctions. That's what's great about these lots, for the price of one kit you can have all kinds of fun. Nice work and quick progress. The two kits do go together pretty good.
  4. End.
  5. Andrew, that may ultimately be the modern way to do it. However You Tube searches pretty much yield the same thing. The downside, from my experience, is most people don't know how to effectively and concisely cut to the chase. User submitted videos are usually (but not always) too long for a little info and frequently poorly shot. I think there would still need to be some editorial managing.
  6. I met Don L. by accident last summer when I went to his place to buy some models he'd listed on Craigslist. I'd never heard of him. He told me he cast stuff but wasn't too specific. I asked for a business card but I can't for the life of me find it. PM me if you still need a phone number, I think he's in the book. I talked to his wife for a while and she said they were contemplating moving elsewhere so I'm not sure if he's still in town yet.
  7. Fantastic! These two shots really wake me up. I might have to keep these as references.
  8. I've always thought deep dish five slot aluminums can make any car look snarky. Looks like the perfect "first car." How did that right hand drive conversion work out for you?
  9. And you can use that fence post for leverage if you get stuck in the mud. Just kidding. Great stuff Nick. I haven't reviewed, but are you the first one to the starting line?
  10. ...And it sees you!
  11. Ironic. In 1995 while I was a news producer at our NBC affiliate, I efforted just such a project. I laid out a show outline which included three feature stories bridged by short blurbs that included industry updates and new products and loosely patterned its format after the old PBS show “Motor Week.” It encompassed all plastic modeling. I had access to a set, talent and anyone in production who cared to volunteer. I went to a Minneapolis IPMS show and shot a lot of tape, did at least one interview and scripted and edited together a sample feature. I phoned the program director of our local PBS station who expressed preliminary interest, said it timed out perfectly and wanted me to keep him posted. I felt "Adventures In Scale Modeling" (hilarious title) was a good and thoughtful program but its creeping pace could only hold the attention of the most committed modelers. To make my program more accessible to the casual viewers, model builds would also feature the 1:1 action that inspires model building and hopefully inspire viewers to make a direct connection between the things that excite them and the building itself. Modeling would always be the focus but that alone just isn’t enough to hold an audience. I barely got a start on the spec program before it became clear it was a bigger project than I could manage in my spare time. Not long after I was a casualty of a budgetary mass layoff. I still have complete faith in the concept but the modeling environment has changed since 1995 and I’m not sure PBS would still be interested, but as stated in previous responses, PBS would be the venue.
  12. Beautiful jet car.
  13. Well ya can't go wrong with those SD's, always a compelling subject and considering it's been a while, I'd say you're right where you're supposed to be. I'll bet you're already planning how to top yourself for the next one. Nice work and thanks for giving us a look.
  14. Exactly. It's amazing how much attention you can get from a pair of red shoes.
  15. My rental house was broken into. Thief stole a VCR, $5 and an iron? By the footprints we think a neighbor kid figured out how to break in, then didn't know what to do once he got in. A cop went over to worry him up a little. A storage unit I rented with a girlfriend got broken into. All my auto restoration tools, supplies and some parts were there but all they took was her TV and futon
  16. May I be chauvinistic for a moment...? Get in the line with the most men (including the checker). Men are on a task to get in and get out. Women delight more in the purchase and social transaction and savor the moment more. (p.s. I don't want to miss a chance to say I love your work and writing Drew).
  17. Unless you want to cover decals, Joe, I'm not sure (gloss) clearcoating will contribute anything. It's been too long for me to remember specifics but my thought upon polishing the plastic is I couldn't do better with coatings, partly because the plastic is flawlessly smooth right into recessed areas. The part I don't remember is whether it makes the plastic color appear richer. Maybe someone else can elaborate. Either way, the plastic wouldn't really be naked if you're polishing a coating.
  18. It seals in the freshness . Just make sure you're completely confident it's not lacquer. I've seen some clears that don't indicate what it is.
  19. Grab a Hemi Hydro, flip it upside down and start adding on
  20. Beautiful original work. The pair looks even better. You should be proud.
  21. Good thing I opened the thumbnails in panel 1. At a glance I thought you were showing samples of the 1:1 that inspired the model photos. They're ALL models. Too bad the paint's not rubbed out, but your small details are impeccable. I might have to use these as references.
  22. I had to google it. Pretty handsome ute.
  23. Darin, you have crystalized that thought very well. Nicely put. I believe model companies know you can't please all the people all the time, so I trust they look at their own business plan and use these boards as a barometer, rather than complete, bankable market research.
  24. Beautiful work as usual Dominik. I'm glad you beat the rush of new kits.
  25. Au contraire mon frere. The burden of not being a minimalist is what got me here. Too much stuff, not the least of which is kits. Regarding building, after being driven to the edge by trying to top myself with more and more detail, I got burned out. Backed off, drew a line and said this is where modeling stops being fun. Avoid going beyond that line or you'll never finish. As per another thread, that's why I prefer the older kits with fewer parts count. I can add detail if I want but kit the doesn't require me to. Less is more.
