The problem with Warhol's statement, if taken verbatim and especially considering the source, is that it's devoid of any emotional connection. Your interpretation is assuming that doing art is joyful for you, regardless of what others think. Warhol's statement, which is more characteristic of his style, is just ###### out as much as you can and let others assign value. Yours of course, is more healthy. Lately, my life motto (and detail level motto) has more and more become, "less is more." I'm sure it has nothing to do with ten years of designing billboards.

Salvador Dali would be proud.

Ace I'm awfully close to being your biggest fan. Your work ups always look exactly right.

Would you pay more...

The part I don't get is why companies charge licensing fees to model companies who are essentially branding for them, then spend big $$ to pass out free T-shirts and promotional items all over the place to keep their name in front of the public. -
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say there WAS one guy in the history of Model Ts who personalized his vehicle, maybe to flaunt his purchase to the horse riding dirt people. It looked exactly like this. Great eye appeal Bob and pretty impressive for a two day effort.

I'm not a gear head so I don't enjoy getting lost in the mechanical details that newer kits provide with such clarity and numbers. I love the old kits because less is more. I feel there's more room to be creative without running into fit issues with multiple sub assemblies down the line. Sure the old kits are grubby but that's no big deal and the subject matter is great.

Just a teeny-weeny update. My micro modeling stinks but with a little clean up (and distance) these custom taillights should be okay. I'd always planned to make my own, I just didn't know what I was going to do until last night. Meh. And I think this car needs a couple chromium roll bars to raise the visual height behind the tall windshield. Oh, and of course, (ahem) safety.

Then along with Chris B, I'll just make it unanimous.

With all due respect to your son in law, it was an innocent question and he meant well, but that's about the least engaging thing you could ask considering N.A. probably hasn't left the house in 40-years without some yokel asking him that. I had the privilege of visiting with Frank Borman (Apollo 8, Gemini 7) for about ten minutes and admittedly didn't really know what to say if I didn't want to sound like Chris Farley interviewing Paul McCartney. Remember when you went to the moon? That was awesome.

Looks like a good start to making a project similar to what I saw this year at a car show. Just a couple reference shots if you don't mind.

Steampunk '49 Mercury
Lunajammer replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As Rob's link and Wikipedia says, "Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction." I think this is brilliant! I tried building a steampunk gun and it's harder than you think because your "stuff" has to look like it has a functioning purpose so you end up uber thinking everything if you want it be believable; scientifically, compositionally, artistically and fancifully. Sort of a crazy industrial art. -
Builders Block What Do You Do?

Summer is always a slump for me. It's just too hard to shut my eyes to the long days, pleasant evenings the bicycle, motorcycle and all the outdoor things. Yet one day while killing time at work I found a canoe pattern online and scaled it. Next thing you know I'm all fired up scratch building some obscure and unpredictable project. Who knows where inspiration comes from? As mentioned above, don't force it, let it. -
I LOVE your overall aesthetics; paint, color, graphics, impact, etc. I wouldn't know any better so it looks right to me.

Thanks guys. Those mid to late 80's Monogram kits had some good hard plastic that buffs to a mirror finish. I did the same thing to a black '71 Plymouth Roadrunner of the same vintage. I'm not sure how bright some of those older brown and tan soft plastics that AMT once used would gloss up.

Which is exactly what I did here. That swirl-free aqua was too luscious to cover. (The "La Bamba" issue Monogram 58 T-Bird).

Just a thought about the U.S.

It first has to test well as an X-Games exhibition, then get full sponsorship from a major power drink and be documented in a video with lots of shaky cam before you can even think about pitting international political foes against each other in a modeling cage match. -

I don't think news of it got west of the Mississippi until about '73 when it started becoming a reminiscence. -
1988. Age 26. Octoberish. Every now and then I visited a mall hobby store and was drawn to the models. I always saw a sign for a model club meeting and after a year or so decided to check one out around the same time I decided to build a Monogram '57 Nomad. It was mostly young to middle aged men and I learned in a few meetings about things I never even knew existed, like Bare Metal Foil, masking products, mould seams, wiring, resin, paint polishing, etc. Like many here, it's when I got caught up in what appeared to be a growing modeling renaissance.

Your flip front matches up pretty well. Beautiful work. Striking color.

You sure do a good job on the midgets. It's obvious you are passionate about them. As a collection it makes for a nice tribute.
-
I love it. Big fan of the factory stock. Beautiful build of a limited subject.
