  1. I don't recall FM ever being commercial free intentionally, however... Besides the above mentioned public radio stations or others supported by education systems or endowments, the first FM stations had no commercials briefly for couple reasons; 1. As new frequencies, all the listeners were still on the AM stations and sponsors were slow to move their money to FM until it was more proven and listenership was more abundant. 2. All the newly launched FM stations I recall played no commercials as an enticement to draw listeners to the new quality sound and formats, purely as an awareness campaign, but they were temporary. 3. Prior to the FCC abolishment of the fairness doctrine in 1987, there were strict limits to the number radio and TV stations one owner could keep, so FM stations were often an offshoot of existing AM stations so the AMs could briefly financially carry FMs while they got established. 4. It's possible the Chrysler radios could tune to a low wattage (with limited community range) station with taped programming that emanated from the dealership, but I've never heard of that from that era. So this is pretty much a verbose non-answer to your question. I dunno what the ad is referring to.
  2. Hmm. Very interesting indeed. Certainly gets the old noggin thinking about how to rod something like this. Bookmarked.
  3. Wow, that's crazy. Not sure I've seen one.
  4. Spectacular build. Clearly you're a pro. I enjoyed the video; well shot, well lighted, well paced and I loved the product call outs with links so we can explore your resources. A masterpiece model.
  5. For this reason I strongly recommend looking to your local social service agency for help. They are an incredible resource to start you on a path toward help, knowledge and assistance for a disease that is so common that whole programs are devoted to assist people like you and your dad. They can help find people who can fairly specifically diagnose your dad's disorder, answer the questions you're asking and point you toward other resources that can improve both his life and yours. Even hospitals have counselors who can get you started. Don't wait until you're desperate. All the best.
  6. Re: the op's question, these are places I've used in the past... 1. Asked a year round R/C dirt track to let me spray. Being hobbyists, they had no problem. 2. Use the shop/garage at work. 3. If moderate winter temps and calm winds and depending on the part being sprayed, step outside to spray and go back in. 4. Apt. bathroom with fan on and lots of newspapers (not recommended).
  7. I concur. Maybe explore another one or two to give it life, even if they were just gawking like the dudes in the photos watching the other guy work.
  8. I would consider experimenting with this or something like it. Available at most hardware stores. It's oil based, but I've not tried adding it to model enamels. I've used it straight as a sealer for metal objects and it's streak free. It's intended to cut brush marks. It also may slow the drying time, which is good because it give the paint a chance to level. I would definitely test first but it could be helpful.
  9. Any thoughts of tilting the radiator cover over the front cross beam? Might make it look faster and the curves look sympathetic to the brow of the C cab. Cool to see your vision mocked up.
  10. So imaginative and so much detail. That 1/24 post apocalyptic flame thrower is a kick.
  11. Hopefully your participation here won't end overnight, so stop in when you can and be that point of light that helps keep this forum grounded. You wear your heart and faith on your sleeve and I find that refreshing. All the best bud.
  12. I just wanted to say Simon that this is such an epic piece that you owe it to yourself to see it through, not to the bitter end but to the reward of your vision being fully realized. I'm the worst offender for running out of gas on projects for which I've invested a lot of time and talent so I totally relate to your desire to explore greener pastures. Even though you have much to be satisfied with now, I hope you will come back to this fresh at some later time and rediscover how close you are to that grand, jaw dropping, convention stopping finale.
  13. I love to see what people do with found objects. So creative and your pieces look right at home at your place. Lamps and assemblage art are some of my other hobbies too.
  14. Your dash detail is incredible. I agree it's a good kit.
  15. Ah yes. Very good. Poor Mr. Zimmerman got fired from the band, but I still get a kick out of the idea of clean cut Vee and the Shadows trying to figure out this quirky and struggling piano player. Clearly the separation was monstrously beneficial to everyone involved, including rock and folk aficionados.
  16. That very same event launched the career of hometown celeb Bobby Vee. Holly's plane was on its way here. When his plane went down Vee and his music friends and older brother stepped up to make sure the show went on. He was discovered and he went on to chart many hits in the early 60's.
  17. I had to design a digital billboard for a car club (Jamestown Classic Car Club) and they didn't provide very good pics so I went to their Facebook page to see what other photos I could use and this one from a summer cruise came up. I don't know anything about it but I can't take my eyes off it. Hopefully it might inspire some of you others. Hope they don't mind if I share.
  18. Despite your troubles, looks like you pulled it together pretty well.
  19. Great subject. Should be a fun one.
  20. Ah yes, very good. I'd never seen that Hot Wheels car before. The similarities are quite apparent.
  21. Missing some pieces there bud ? but that body paint is amazingly smooth for brush painted. Good job.
  22. I love these things. Any more pics? ?
