Modeling, insomnia and you.

X2 Rob. Except for the 6am part. I can usually get a grip by 2am. -
Revell/Gearz Contest - Official Thread
Lunajammer replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would be remiss if I didn't add that I'm thrilled to see people's entries here. They are both intimidating and inspiring at the same time. Remember from last year that the acclaimed judges were given packets of pre-sorted photos provided to them by Revell/Gears, which means the photos had already had one round of judging from producers and execs before the model experts had their say. The models' photos have to look good on TV, be relevant to the program and serve the needs of the sponsor, Revell. That's just business. -
How did I get signed up for this?
Lunajammer replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had all four removed a few years ago and I was into my 40's. I was sedated, everything went perfect. I never even used the prescribed pain killers (even though I already bought them) because any discomfort was so mild an aspirin was all I needed and even that was probably only for two days. Sadly, I never got silly. Just napped away the afternoon. I'll second jbwelda. You'll be fine. -
I believe people are communal by nature and extending out to welcome someone into your fold in a positive way is never a wasted effort, even if it doesn't achieve the result you expected. It at least conveys worth to someone who maybe didn't even know they needed it until they received it. And in this case doesn't hurt the hobby either. Outstanding Mark.

Revell/Gearz Contest - Official Thread
Lunajammer replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congratulations Austin. Honorable mention is no small matter, considering the company you're in. You will now, of course, have to toss in a photo here. -
I don't think there is as much polarization between the two as some members here would think. No question there are loyalists, and I'll bet most people here are dual members or were at one time members of SA. I'll always have a sentimental place for SA, but that said, I've let my subscription run out and I only check the forum every few weeks. Maybe with upgrades SA site will be better but I'm here because there are just WAY more quick loading photos, more discussion, more topics, more participation from known hobby insiders, more energy, more models... just more. And as mentioned before, freedom of speech. Not really trying to make comparisons, just saying where they fit in my online reading.

Do people even think anymore
Lunajammer replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I dunno, the choices just seem too deliberate, like a theme build or something. Does it look like a play off anything you've seen in pop culture? Transformers? Starship Troopers? Anime? Any story behind it? ??? -
Yeah, something subtle. The smooth fenders aren't so bad, just something to lighten the broad panel.

Oh, you were serious! I thought this was some college rivalry. -
Coyote launches rockets which stand still but blasts the car backwards in a harrowing ride to the very end of a jutting precipice. Wipes sweat from brow for avoiding going off edge. Missiles explode which sends traveling cracks through the ground all the way to the jutting precipice which collapses under the car that suspends for a moment before dropping (as does coyotes head and ears).

The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
Lunajammer replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
Jim, I'm glad the deadline was waived because I actually made a feable start on a project for this. I never announced it because I don't know how committed I can be to it this year and I've always thought it's unfair to the thread's followers to vanish after presenting a hyped up start. However I do respect those who at least inform of their DNF. Love the topic. I might still jump in after Cannonball. -
I guess the hard work paid off...

GET OUT! That's awesome. Clean build, excellent photos, hey why not? -
"Rat Patrol 2012." Would that thing come after me if I said it was... well... kind of cute?

Oh Slusher, I figured it would just be a matter of time. Your contributions will be an asset here. Welcome, glad you've gone public. -
Moving into the first part of paint now. All masked and ready for the first of the two-tone color. Voila'. Ivory. Yep, looks completely different now doesn't it?

Tastes change ...... ?
Lunajammer replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe not so much age, just evolving experience. For me that includes music, faith based subjects, even women. Along with age comes scope and we see beyond our market and fad fed tastes of our youth. Sometimes we've worn out our interests in things we followed for 20-years and start discovering the "new" things that have been been in front of our eyes for decades. -
Is flash a measure of quality?

Is flash a measure of quality?
Lunajammer replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since my mantra is "less is more" I would have to completely agree. I just wouldn't poo-poo a kit for it the way I occasionally see on some threads. -
For years we read a line in almost every kit review that said, "...There was 'x amount' of flash." In some threads here, I see recurring references to how good or bad a kit is because of how much or little flash there is. Does flash really matter? Whether there is a micron of a seam that needs to be smoothed or a quarter inch of paper thin flash, either way there's going to be sanding and I don't see where it changes much when prepping a model. Only once have I found flash so thick it made a solid piece out of part of a sprue sheet and muddled the detail of smaller parts. Maybe it's my age, but I think removing a blade of flash is just part of building and I don't use it as a noteworthy measure of a kit's quality. Registration is something else though. Thoughts?
