  1. This is what I use also. I leave the plastic cap on the unused side and it turns perfectly for me. I also have a battery operated drill by X-acto. I have had, and been using this one since 1975. Runs on 2 c-cell batteries.
  2. Just about done with the new addition. Got the walls up, and the roof ready The roofing material I will use a piece of sand paper. Outside front, and side wall. I used a body skin for a Pine Car Derby kit. Making some stools for the counter. Used a paper punch, and some square brass tube for the supports. These will be glued to sequin pins I installed from the bottom. Finished the walls in side. You can see the pins in the above shot.
  3. I think I know why the prices went up. The cost of fuel. You gotta remember that this kits are made from petroleum products, so when the cost of oil goes up so does everything else. Look at your local grocery store, food prices have risen also, due to the cost of fuel. I go to Michel's for supplies, like basswood, and such other things I need. I used to buy allot of stuff at Hobby Lobby, but when I wa there yesterday to get a item I needed their section I used to buy from is just about non existent. Luckily I have a LHS here in town that has been here for ages, and the owner will order anything you need. I order on Mon. and can get it the Fri. of the same week. Also once or twice a year I make a 250 mile road trip, to MPLS./St.Paul, and hit the hobby shops there. They have stuff on hand I can't get here.
  4. I know Andy, and his stuff is first class.
  5. Way back then the kits were just taped shut. No shrink wrap, so you could open it up and check it out also. If you were looking for the Starliner kit here is a original, no engine. This was one of the Styline kits.
  6. Yeah they say if can remember the 60's you weren't really there. I lived in a few places where we decorated like that. Lots of day- glo, and black light paint on the walls.
  7. I had a Chapparel that I raced at the local track. Found out later that when AMT released the street freaks series, the AWB Psychlone fir the wheel base of the Chapperal. Add a rubber band to the guide pin, and I had a wheel stander. Have had many HO tracks over the years still have 2 cars left from them days.
  8. Okay I started looking at he building a bit closer, and realized I needed more room. Not enough for a kitchen. So I built this skeleton out of 1/8th inch plexiglass. Have to add the exterior to it yet. Also got some done on the interior. The doors to the kitchen area are also plexi, with the covering from a AAA Car decal. Windows were made using a paper punch. Have a couple of walls yet to finish, along with some curtains I am working on for the upper windows, and the stools. Then Its into the building.
  9. It does build an nice model. This one is from the first reissue many years ago. Here's another I did curbside. Just glued the hood shut, Didn't fell like messing with a engine.
  10. Thanks Doc, I plan on a art gallery for one of the buildings, it will feature the works of Ed Roth, and David Mann. Guess who the administrator will be? Someone we both know.
  11. Hey guys, and gals, I needed some psychedelic posters for the new neighborhood, and thought I would shre them here. Some are suitable for garage art also. Enjoy.
  12. Interior work for one of the buildings. The walls still have to be decorated. These will be the inner walls, and counters. Outside looking in. I know it's a wild color combo, but then this is a hippy district of town.
  13. When I was younger, my neighbor used to buy, and fix them in his garage. I remember him having a blue station wagon. Crosley also made fridges.
  14. Well got the drains in , and the road done. Also found some potholes that needed filling.
  15. Finally got back to this one again. I sighted in the sidewalks. Even found some drain outlets, still have to place manholes yet. Got the streets, and parking lanes scribed in. Asphalted the alley. This stuff is great for simulating asphalt. Nice and gritty. Hope I can find more. I've had this can for 10 years, and its sstill good. Then a base coat for the pavement.
  16. You were lucky. A can of spray paint is eqaul to a 1/4 stick of dynamite. I keep all of mine in a metal cabinet. Never had them explode yet, (knock on wood), but have had the seeping problem mainly around the nozzle.
  17. Peter if you really want to get crazy check this out. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Tutorials/Convertible%20tops/ It is from Car Model way back when. I'm sure you could adapt it to your build. Yeah the 49-51 Merc's do have a sexy classic look all to themselve's.
  18. yep that was the one. Thanks again for the memories.
  19. I guarantee you it don't look like this now.
  20. Here are some pics of my shop. Paint storage. Diorama area for assembly. Main workbench. I use this for plastic, metal and other goodies. Also lots of plastic shoe boxes. Also lots of pegboard for hanging items on. More pics here. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Bench/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ24 Not shown are my drill press, scroll and table saw, and belt sander.
  21. Man what a trip down memory lane. I did Pappy's Simi-Sled Cuda years ago, but it's long gone now. Thanks Jarius for the memories.
  22. I use Photobucket. Here is a link to my pics, and albums. Never had problems with it, going on 4 years now. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/
  23. Made some progress on the base. Here it matches up with the old section. This is a front shot of the stret. It is 48 in's. long 11 3/4ths wide. This is how it should look when together. Have to do the pavement, sidewalks, and alleyway yet.
