Hey you guys who do auto art, want to see your work in a Museum setting? Here's your chance. In the diorama section I am doing a Art Gallery/Museum, and am looking for artwork to display. Anyone interested? I had planned on a Ed Roth display, but will add others if you're interested to give it more flavor. Check out the Art Museum thread in the dio section, and let me know. Artemis has already volunteered, so any one else?

We could probably do that. Send me some info, and I'll see what we can do. Probably add it to the Roth display.

just wait till you see what else I have planned.

Wayne no it's not for a train layout. Here is what I'm doing with it. The first link was the original block, and the second is the new addition I'm adding. http://s8.photobucke...20Neighborhood/ http://s8.photobucke...ogers%20Pt%202/ Or you can check them all out here. http://s8.photobucke...HO%20buildings/

Great looking pop cases. I think they prop up the tailgate a bit better, or they will be picking up busted glass.

model kits in unexpected places
Mercman replied to milkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I found some AMT plaque kits in a hardware store one tim Got all 3 of them for 6.00. These were chrome plated bodies cut in half to make a framed wall display. I also scored a IH conv. tractor semi at the IH dealer is Des Moines when we had a breakdown, think I paid 10 for it when they had just come out. You have to scour the stores, look under the shelves, and on the floor some times they are hiding. On another note when I had my 53 Ford full size I was at a Coast to Coast hardware store , and I spotted a Spinner Knob display for steering wheels. I asked the guy if there were any left, or just the empty card. Well they had one left, and it was green. Which was perfect, as the car was green with a green interior. -
To give you an idea 1/8th in block is just about 3 inches. In 62 the blocks came in 3-6 in. increments. Yeah I'm old. Personally I like the lowered look also, but the rake has that I can beat the snot out of you look to it. Here's a pic of 2 49 Fords that my daughter, and I built together. Hers is the Rose colored one with a 18th in raise, and mine is the other with 1/8th lowering block. Both of them had the front spindles turned upside down. This one has the 1/8th in. lift also.

One of the Pickup kits also had the entire bike with it. I think it was the Chevy. I remember the 60's PU's had a dual axle trailer, you could build into a show display, along with gas, oil, and water cans. Didn't one also have a Harley with it? Also the Nova wagon had a 2 wheel trailer with it, and could be built as a track emergency vehicle.

Started to get into this one, got the floors cut from 1/8th inch plexiglass, and the lighting ready. This will be kindof a up scale build for the neighborhood. The kit is a Smalltown USA kit. This is with 2 lights in it, I have it set for 3. Now it will be time to start the interior work for the art exhibit. Thinking of featuring art work of Ed Roth. The second floor will probably be artists studio's. This leaves all sorts of possibilities for things to look at.

Here's the Indian figure I might use. He will need some modification, but I have 3 of the same so have room for error. The guy with the shovel is 1/87, the Indian is 1/72nd. Sorry about pic quality.

First, I framed a wall with scale 2'x 4" lumber. So Ken what are the dimensions for a 1/25th scale 2X4? :D :D ( In memory of Lou). Seriously though this is why you are the MASTER. Also this is why I took up 1/87th your work is inspiring. Hope to see this in person some day.

Put it on the lift! I need photos!
Mercman replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Check your local public library for Chilton Auto repair manuals. Look for the year you want and check them out for reference shots. I did this with Mercs Fords engines of different saorrts, and more. A quick trip to the Xerox machine, and you have a print of all the info you'll need. They usually have these books in the reference area. -
Need Custom Ideas
Mercman replied to vintagestang's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You mean like someone built the car as a custom back in the day, and then was discovered in a barn just rotting away? -
Eventually there will be a few that do look like that, but this one will get cleaned up a bit.

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
Mercman replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
As for my screen name I like Mercuries 49-56. At one time I had over 450 of them in various scales from 1/120th to full size (1951). AS for the avatar, that was taken at George Barris shop in Hollywood. The Batmobile I am in is the parade version. His grandson gave us a tour of the shop. -
Yeah it got a bit to much weathering. So I'll clean it up. The hood will be getting even bigger, as I made notes today on 12 post-its for ideas.

Almost looks like the one I bought back in 1972. Nicely done. Can't wait to see more of your work.

question about old Hubley 63 Galaxie
Mercman replied to Sixx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a Hubley 62 Ford Wagon. It was a kit not a promo I started with. I have 2 AMT promos a 63, and a 65 both are factory paint colors with the interior the same as the body. -
Ever wonder about Dr. Cranky
Mercman replied to Mercman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Justin if it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all it sounds like. I sold my bike many years ago. Hard a chopped HD with all the goodies on. My girlfriend at the time used to complain about it being uncomfortable, Rigid frame and only a p-pad seat on the back. Years later I saw the bike in town here, and guess who was riding it. Yep she bought it a t police auction. I had sold it to some rich kid who got busted dealing, ant he cops took the bike from him. Now it's out in Montana somewhere. -
Decided to do a smoke shop also The building has 2 doors so maybe one for straights, and one for those enlighted.

Looking at it I need to clean the front up a little. Mainly on the bottom. What do you guys think, yes/no?
-
Also decided to make the block bigger. Here are the first, and second section together before. Then with the new bases being constructed. I measured 3 times to get it right, and its 1/8th in. to high. Going to have to trim the bottom. Luckily I haven't glued the boards yet.
