  1. To answer your questions. 1/25th scale, either Danbury or Franklin Mint made this one. Wish I could but it's in anothers possession. It was a job for a client. I may be doing another though for his brother. HAH!!! Imagine that I actually inspired someone. Knowing the Doctor though we'll be in for a surprise on his version of it.
  2. Just picked this up to use in a diorama, of a VFW club. Got to looking at the kit, and saw the drop tanks, and started thinking, belly tank racers.
  3. Here is a build I just finished for a client. I had to repaint the Borden's rig to match our local dairy. His dad drove this rig. What I started with, and a reference pic. Finished build.
  4. I agree, I hope everyone is safe. Material things can be replaced. Speaking of weird things, we had a 2.5 earthquake today 100 miles from where I live.
  5. I'm not the builder of this one, but from what I can see, 1/2 inch foam core board was used. Gatorboard would also work for the walls. Looks like Fleck-It Stone paint was used to do the outside.. You can find this paint at most craft stores like Michael's, or Hobby Lobby, it comes in different colors.
  6. Like Terry said what you have pictured looks good. The best way to do it would be to break this up into smaller scenes, that could be added together as one display. I'm currently working on a 1/4 Mile dirt track diorama in 1/87th scale, and it measures 4x8 feet. I cut the board up into 4 sections for storage, and transporting. The grand stands, and other buildings will be modules that can be added. I would suggest that you do like you did with the pic shown, find some more different shots, and have them mounted to foam board for you backgrounds, then you can swap them out for the different cars you wish to display.
  7. Glad to help out. BTW the dirty look of the stucco was from handling the building so much. I also used a pencil to get some aging in the grooves of the build. For your project, I would recommend a wash of dirty thinner. If you have a jar that is well used, take a old brush, and dig in the bottom to the gunk that settled. However try it on scrap piece first to get the hang of it. Also where you get rain water runoff don't forget to do them areas also. Acryllic paints thinned down work good for rust stains. So check real buildings around your area where they have downspouts for the gutters. You'll see what I mean. Oh yeah forgot to mention, the building I showed you is 1/87th scale.
  8. Cole you might find some ideas here. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Building%20details/ Or on this one I used a stucco effect. To achieve this I used Liquetex tube paint , and a stippling brush.
  9. Track plans got put on hold. Had some sewer work done in the basement, and the shop looked like WW 3 hit. Took me a month to get everything reorganized. Did finish another racer for it though. Been busy with projects for clients, commisioned model builds, so haven't done to much lately. Will get back to it soon though, and I'll update as it progresses.
  10. I shot the green, and ended up with some orange peeling in the paint. Today I checked it, and it cleared up, so I reshot it with a dark green primer, then reshot the green. Removed the masking tape, and got this. Have a few small areas that need to be touched up but I'm happy with it. Now to work on the lettering.
  11. Sam yes it is HO scale. The kit is from Jordan Miniatures. They are highly detailed little kits. Best advice I can give you on building one of these kits is don't sneeze, or you'll loose parts. I added the headers to the flathead, by cutting staples into pieces. Also had to make one if the hair pin rods, as one went flying. Like I said don't sneeze. The roll cage was made from floral wire, the rest is basically out of the box.
  12. Today I mask off the yellow, and proceed withe green. Hopefully all will go well with this.
  13. Here's my latest little racer. This is what I started with.
  14. Here's another build I am doing for a client. I have to turn this Danbury Mint model into a local livery of the company here in town. Here is a pick of the model before, and some reference pics that I received. The model will be like it is new, and not abandoned. Also here is the first color put on. This is Krylon Yellow3 coats over gray primer. Letting this dry for a couple more days, then will mask it off, and apply the green, also Krylon.
  15. Vintage AMT 66 annual kit. Client got it off of E-bay. The old screw type chassis.
  16. Mike I'll post some reference shots for you in the On The Bench thread.
  17. Hey we only have a little over 50 inches so far here in N.Dak. Plus right now it's -12 below 0.
  18. Thanks Mark it was a fun build. Also this was vintage plastic, as it was a original kit. My next project is a repaint of a Divco milk truck. Going from the top one to look like the bottom one, only not as aged.
  19. This is one I recently did for a customer. Paint is Barrier Blue Ditzler Acrylic Ureathane.
  20. I'm doing a repaint on a die cast truck for a guy, and couldn't get it disassembled. Therefore I masked off the under carriage, wheels and such, along with the windows. I can repaint the bottom by hand if need be to cover over spray, but here is the main question. How would you seal the edge of the tape to prevent seep through? I am using green, and blue painters tapes, low stick. Should I apply a light coat of acrylic gloss, or what? Thanks for your input.
  21. What i used was a dry plaster sifted over the area in question. The base was covered with regua=lar coat of plaster, and shped. When dry I used scenic glue, and sifted dry plaster over the area. After I did this one I got hold of a jar of the Woodland Scenic's snow. Use this with thier scenic glue, and you'll get good results.
  22. Robert that would be a big project. The front straight away on this one is 40 inches. Here's one I did back in the 70's. It was 24 inches. This one is 30x30, and was done a couple of years ago. Both are 1/24th.
  23. Mark upon reflection, yes you were right, the one crawler is a little lager then HO, my apologies to you. Wayne I look forward to it. Yeah there will be more cars, these are just the ones I have done. I paln on holding a event like the K&J Kruise from a few years ago. I'll send you details later. Looking forward to that steak, and beverage.
  24. These are 1/87th scale HO. They may look like 1/64th but there not. Also the track dimension's were scaled down to 1/87th or darn close. I know that your not being nit-picky, and I appreciate your comment.
