A winter work bench of fuel altered’s
dragcarz replied to M W Elky's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I agree with you Michael, and this is an amazing time to build models. There is so much available limited to your wallet and time. I have a soft spot for altered’s. I spent most of my teen years crewing for AA/FA, and we match raced the car, and even attended the Fuel Altered Nationals in 1974. I look forward to your builds.I’m sitting on the right front tire. -
Thanks Daniel

Thanks Terry, here’s what Herb McCandless had on the Sox & Martin built Demon, I’m going with a variant of this.

Looks good to me Bob, someone said you can’t look at both sides at the same time. I’m glad you finished it!

Beautiful work Terry!

That is so COOL! Great work! It’s really looking like a funny car should!

I finally got some bench time and was able to get the engine compartment together. Lots of cutting and trimming, I tried to replicate what was common in 1972, the rule book states stock front suspension, but torsion bars were swapped out for coil over shocks with the upper shock mount braced by the front roll cage supports. I’m going to use the coil over shocks from the Johan Hornet funny car. I need to trim the K member for the dry sump oil system.

Resurrecting a 1969 Coronet R/T hardtop glue bomb

Beautiful restoration, great color choice! -
Tell me about it, it is slow going, LOL! I’ve put years into a couple of my projects but it’s always worth it. It’s kind of funny, but when it’s finished it doesn’t look like you spent so much time building it. I guess when you do it well it appears like the kit was made that way. No one recognizes the work and effort it took to make that one of a kind piece of art work. Keep up the good work!

I couldn’t agree more…. Kits should be built! Thank you for sharing this beautiful build!

Wow! That is so cool! I used to crew for a fuel altered owned by a friend of mine back in the early 70s. The car had a T body and was named InsaniTy. I was lucky enough to attend the 1974 Fuel Altered Nationals held in Tucson Arizona and saw many of those cars run, it was such an awesome experience. Just a beautiful build, thanks for posting it and bringing back some memories for me! -
Great builds, love the cat! You don’t see many MPC Vega funny cars anymore.

Very cool Bob! Another great project in the works, any thoughts on color yet? -
Looking great Mark, it’s coming along nicely! Great scratch building!

Like you, I purchased the resin kit several years ago, and I don’t know who made the kit. I thought I purchased it from Slixx decals. They still list a 72 Demon under the Competition Resin Pro Stock. It looks a little different from what I have, and has an interior tub. Maybe it’s been modified over the years, the grille looks the same, and the front wheel openings are still incorrect. Thanks!

Great build, clean, great detail and execution!

You most definitely have my attention, I purchased this same resin kit for the 72 Grille for my current build. I’m following!
