What was your 1st 1 to car
Brudda replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was 16 at the time. A 1970 Mach 1 Mustang' 351 cleveland with a shaker and a 2bbl carb. FMX auto trans. Green with black stripe. Dk green interior. Bought it in 1973 when the gas crunch was at its highest. It had 32000 miles and it was $2000. Performance cars were out. There was a 1966 shelby 427 cobra next to this car. I told my dad I wanted to buy this little british car. It was the 427 cobra. I saved money since I was 10 to buy a car. I had $3500. The cobra was $3800. I asked my dad for a loan on the $300. He was wondering why a british car was so expensive. After a extensive lecture on how he was not stupid and a 16 year old was not getting a 425 hp car. Sooo I asked if I could buy the Mach 1. He took off the shaker and air cleaner and saw the 2bbl carb and said ok. The other $1500 went to insurance. That was alot of money in 1973. But I was in heaven. -
Thank you Bruce!

What Do New Kits Have Inaccuracies
Brudda replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe everyone here is right. Kits are expensive and the overseas kits are more. I really agree with Art Anderson ,Sometimes a part does not look right at reduced scale. Im building a 1:12 scale GT 500 convertible.I have modified or scratch built more than I wanted. The reason the build is taking so long is that i am making several versions of a part,1 is a scaled down version and part 2 and 3 are modified to look right at scale. Some parts look right on at scale, while others look really strange at scale.Try 14 inch tires on a 65 gto. Believe me it looks strange at scale. I understand the mfg part of business. Build real planes and you really start to understand what it takes to do it right. On a smaller scale however, It is quite different. Its not life or death and not really rocket science but it is a art form.Try to scale something down from a 1 to 1. It takes time. The more time the more accurate thus more money. I knew people in the business part of modeling years ago and (not saying names) That the american companies had 1 person doing the measurements on a subject for 1 or 2 days. The japanese companies had several people measuring a subject for weeks. But there was a big difference in price. The american model companies are doing great for the price.Build a model company,do what they do,and then get a few crybabies saying this and that is wrong with your model. Do it for a locked price and deadline. Not an easy thing. OK now you have the perfect kit, no complaints, but can you do a perfect build? Can you be Mr. Perfect? There are a small few that can do this,on this sight. And you know who you are,but the rest of us are just builders. So my question is ,if the model is not perfect and you are not perfect, whats to worry about?Just build and have fun. -

Look at Top Gear USA, how did that work out? -
Tesla is in the Bay Area. This is like no other place on earth. The average joe that has paid his or her home off in the 80s is doing very well. The 1500-2000 sq ft home in San Jose is around 1 mil. in a good area. My friends have moved to other parts of the usa because they sold their home and bought a 1500 sq ft home for 150 thou cash. Then retire. What i am saying is that joe average is doing pretty good. Sooo 70 thou for a car is not bad. Palo Alto is even doing better. I just took my daughter to a american girl store in Palo Alto, and holy cow, model cars are cheap compared to that. (yes even pocher). Bill Engwer is right, like the first TV,first car,etc it is going to be out of price for us, joe average guy or gal. Maybe in the near future we will see more of them. I did watch a formula e race, kind of interesting. Although for me, I still like the sounds of pistons and the smell of gas.
