69 VW Bug ... 66 to 69 Bug 8/24/17 Fotki update
rmvw guy replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice build going here, very interested. -
Nice job for a first attempt. It looks way better than my first. Not too many '55 Nomads sitting around this neglected I bet.

Very carefully. The '49 I bought had more glue on it than any model I have ever disassembled. The sides of the body were glued to the frame and floor pan all the way from front to rear. I decided to leave the seats attached to the frame for fear they would break the whole assembly if separated I put the model in the freezer first, ( I saw this tip somewhere), not sure if this process helped. It seemed to soften the glue in places. I soaked the entire model in Easy Off oven cleaner over night in a zip lock bag once I got the clear windows out, sometimes this process fogs the clear. The windows were glued to the top and probably the hardest part to remove. I had to cut them out in two pieces then grind the middle part out with the dremel tool. Way too much work but, all part of the fun. The only damage was at the very bottom of the body a couple of small chips, easy fix. Most of the time it's not this difficult. I will have to look a little closer next time before I buy a glue bomb, or just leave them original like Tom. I think he has a great idea, really!

Nice job on the red one. They all look great next to each other in the photos. I love what you are doing. I recently picked up a '49 Ford glue bomb at a show for $5 and have been working on it ever since. I probably should have done like you and just cleaned it up. Instead I totally stripped it and started over. My first radical '50s custom show car is where my journey is leading, still a lot of fun with very little invested. Thanks for sharing yours with us.

I like this one a lot!!! Nice work so far, I'll be watching. This would look great with a vintage car hauler. -

Thanks for the eye candy Slusher. -
Nice looking Blue Bug. People my age use to see these everywhere. I've owned six Beetles, currently have a '70 Bug. Every time I see a model like your's I want to build another.

Most of the auto workers I knew didn't quite get it. If it didn't have the name Chevrolet on it, it was a foreign car. I owned a VW Rabbit assembled in Pennsylvania, a part time co-worker, also GM employee, used to accuse me of driving a foreign car, while all the time he was driving a Chevy Luv truck made in Japan. Go figure. GM, UAW workers were busting out headlights of foreign cars they saw in parking lots. Crazy times!

91 Dodge Viper 400hp 8L V-10 Carroll Shelby The Dodge Stealth was to be the pace car, but the UAW didn't like the joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, forcing Dodge to use the as-yet unreleased Viper. Thanks for posting these, I am a huge fan. I have made several trips to the Speedway during the off season just to view the ever changing scale model collection at the museum. A nice collection of pace cars as well as former winners cars and others. Also some real 1:1 cars but, I find myself spending more time looking at the models for some reason. One of my favorite years above, I rushed out and bought a Stealth Promo Model to turn it into a pace car. I remember all the commotion about it being a foreign car by the UAW (they were strong here in Indiana at the time). If I'm not mistaken, the Viper was only a Concept at the time and Chrysler's engineers rushed to build two of them for the race. The Stealth remained the Official Car of the Indy 500 and was used for everything else at the Speedway that year including, the parade, and also V.I.P.s got to drive them the whole month of May. I guess you could say there may have never been a Viper produced if it wasn't for all the commotion at the 500 in 1991.

Nice job! Too bad you didn't have a '60 kit, or did they ever make one? It sure did make a lot of extra work for you, and must say you pulled it off. That must have been a sweet ride back in '87. -
Which pick-up kit is the best?
rmvw guy replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
AMT or Lindberg '34 Ford, same kit, oldie but, goodie. -

Thanks guys, I really hadn't planed on posting them. Sorry for the poor quality on some. After watching Jim Haught from Scale Auto do a photo shoot I realize how bad my photo skills are. I am shooting with a $5 garage sale camera. Some of the paint work on the models were really way better then I could ever capture. Also I probably left out a lot of good ones after my photo card got filled. -
You mean they have thieves in Finland too? I thought only in America. I hope you get it back in one piece and the person that stole it loses a couple of fingers.

It looks too much like a model to me so, I am saying REAL. I have been fooled by Harry too many times.

You pulled one off Tom, I love it. I have a buddy we used to kid about putting snow tires on his Vette, he would love this. To the purest if you do anything non-stock to a Vette you are making a huge mistake. I can hear all these people in the back of my head, "No it's not right, it's just not right!" That's half the fun. You splashed mud all over these guy's perfectly ironed shirts and their white trousers. Congrats.
