  1. I agree with you Donn, I have been buying a lot Japanese kits lately, and at $30 or more plus shipping, the last thing I want to do is screw them up. I know enough to get those in between paint jobs, not paint bombs, not show quality. This is how I look at it, I dont build for contest, so I am not out to get a show quality finish just for something thats going to sit on the shelf and collect dust, but at the same time, I dont want paint bombs sitting on the shelf either. But I have nothing against learning how to better my painting skills at the same time, I may one day want to do contests builds. I dont do a lot of paint jobs that need masking, but thats for a reason, they never come good. I think the only thing I go cheap on is masking tape. I have ruined a $ 60 kit because I was trying to be cheap and use krylon paint, I learned that day.
  2. Jim, next time you try it, if the first time it does not work, either add a word or delete a word, I think it was Harry that posted in thread somewhere how to get the most from the search fuction on here
  3. I have no idea how MCM works, and so I shouldn't be saying anything, but maybe it takes that long to go thru all the photos and get the best ones to put in the magazine
  4. Not really missing much, they do the same things TGUK have done in the past. Is there a model of the hilux that will never die in kit form close to same year ?
  5. I am not surprised, I think only a few car manufactures make the paint flawless before they leave the factory, and guessing Bentley is not one them now But with the price of a Bentley it better come from the factory with a perfect paint job
  6. I been using fujimi tire and wheel sets, and they are staggered as well, and the detail is good, but I dont think I have used a aoshima tire/wheel set so I can not compare. If you dont need the tires, there is hobby design wheels, I just bought two sets, and the quality of the ones I got are really good, and you get metal valve steams with them. I am going to give aoshima wheels a try and see for myself .
  7. Thats my problem, I use hardware store tape, I need to change that, that is really good advice, I need to take it too. I know for me its just easy to grab a roll when out shopping at wally world, oh wait, I think wally world sells auto tape too. Inner coat clear?, is that the same as a clear coat?, or a different type of clear?
  8. Donn, I agree with what you said, only so much can be explained through words, the last thing I was trying to do was add to any rumors that my be going on. The last thing I want to do is to start problems on here , more so when I have no problems with something in the first place. So your DVD for airbrushing can relate to using a can correct?, I keep saying I am going to get a airbrush, and I want to learn as much as I can before trying to use it. But in the mean time, I know I have a lot to learn about getting better results from a can
  9. Donn, I was joking about getting kick backs, I am sorry you didnt take it that way, and I was not bad mouthing your DVD, I saw the price listed as $30 on your website a few months back And again Donn, you missed what I was saying, not everyone wants to buy a how to video, so when they ask for help on here they get buy your DVD, which is fine, but offer some suggestions as well, thats all I am trying to say. I am very sorry I offended you, it was not my intention to , and I am sorry you thought I was being serious about the kick backs, again that was a joke too, thats why I put the laughing emoticon at the end. I will take the blame for wording it the wrong way.
  10. I know Rob its way to soon for these temps here
  11. I have pretty much gave up on using the search function on here, sometimes I can get it to work, its a number games with it at time, meaning either to many words, or not enough. I would say it works 50% of the time. But I dont really use it, most of the threads I look for are most of the times a few pages back anyways. Yes using google to search the forum does work very well.
  12. I wish we could get some rain here, all we are getting is 80 degree weather already, today a set of hobby design 20in wheels for a R35 GTR came.
  13. Nice collection, but you should add the R34's from the second and fourth
  14. Maybe he posted a pic for reference for you, sometimes you can still find after market products that are not being made anymore
  15. Life is all about cycles, things come and go, the Internet and how often people post on forums is no different, some of the other forums , some not model related, people stop posting, or leave and times posting does slow down. Not everyone is glued to the computer all time through out the year, now that we are getting closer to spring, or in my case here in Phoenix , summer time already, the weather is nice, time to do things outside that you couldn't do during the winter time. I am sure there are other reason why some members on here have stopped posting .
  16. looking good
  17. Beautiful, very nice, good job
  18. send me a PM with your address and I will send them to you when I get a chance Edit- after a trip to the purple pond, I have repainted it, I think I should be ok this time, as long as I dont have to added another wet coat
  19. Love it, very nice, I have been thinking about doing some cars from TGUK, and after watching the last episode TGUS I have idea for some builds now TG related
  20. Why is that almost everytime time someone asks a painting question, most of the answer's are get Donn's DVD?, are you guys getting kick backs from Donn? . What I keep reading I understand its a really good DVD to learn from, but not everyone wants to buy a how to DVD for $30. Ken, I did a lot of searching thru google and I learned a lot that way, try youtube as well. Going to try and answer some of your questions I cant help with masking as I still have my own issues's. You want to start out with a few mist coats, just enough to cover the body with paint, dont try and cover the entire body on the first mist coat, about three is good. Then you can do the wet coats, one, maybe two. As for clear coats, it just depends, I like using testor's one coat( takes more then one), or model mast clear lacquer, you can use almost any clear coat you want , I like many use furture floor polish as a clear coat as well. Now of course I did not go in to detail, but you also want to make sure that you have a good primer, use an automotive primer, I use duplicolor, make sure you use 1000-2000 grit paper to get a nice smooth surface before you lay down your paint. Dont try to get the perfect paint job outa of a can, its hard.
  21. If only more people would use google to find answer's to their questions, why it may not always give you the answer's you are looking for, its a very good start.
  22. I agree its a good idea, but for most of the model related topics are covered in the how do I section, yet it seems like every couple a weeks we see a new how do I strip paint, or a paint question , so I agree with Harry , I think it would just be ignored by most
  23. Haha no, for some reason I like the way camaros look in yellow, old and new. But I may have to use a different shade.
  24. Getting some work done , chassis is almost done, and the engine as well
  25. It means just what it says, the topic is locked and no more replys can be made to it.
