Went through a few U.S. made Delco brake lamp switches for my GM vehicle before I landed a "Hecho en Mexico" switch that would: 1. Not illuminate the ABS lamp 2. Not sound like a wine glass stem snapping when I stepped on the brake pedal Of course, your mileage may vary. And mine may also vary the next time I spin The Wheel of Parts.

I run an ad blocker on my home pc and laptop. Sorry. On my work pc, I have been getting Etsy ads with scantily clad women and classless t-shirts that I am afraid will offend the team member that can see them. I have blocked and reported at least 20 similar ads just this week. Google says that I won't see them again but I do. There are also other sexually suggestive ads that do not have the ability to block and report. Why does every other site I visit have targeted ads from Google for things I am interested in, like cars, model cars, car parts, clothes, various things from Amazon, etc., but this site only seems to offer offensive content in the ads? It's not like I am cruising women's underwear or things like that on my work pc that should trigger such things. And no, I don't want to buy a new house in Arizona or Wyoming. I have done nothing to trigger that type of "targeted" advertising. I changed a bunch of my Google ad and cookie settings. Let's see where that gets me.

LOL Pete. I was just being silly. I was just spreading the word that among the celebrities on this forum, we have the builder of the BMF cover model for anyone who didn't already know. -

There are good aftermarket parts out there and there are poor ones. There are junk OEM parts out there too. If any of you are in the business and work on GM trucks, look no further than the knock sensor and harness debacle of not too long ago. I have a dear neighbor who has a hobby of knocking the side mirrors off her vehicles. The last one she did, she took it to a body shop and they quoted her around $700. I checked, and the mirror was a little north of $400 from Ford (power, heated, puddle lamp), plus she obliterated the body color cap so paint was needed. And it was a Ford, so the wiring connector was way down in the door, so the trim panel had to be removed. Fast forward, we have a local distributor of "offshore" body parts and they were offering the mirror for $40. I figured it was junk, but I looked at it and it was either made by the OEM supplier, or it was a very detailed fake. I bought it. Popped the cap off of it and installed it on her car. This was long enough ago that DupliColor was about $9, so I snagged the Arizona Beige. Using DupliColor primer and clear from my model stash, I laid down a concours quality paint job on the cap, let it dry for a day and installed it on the mirror. She reimbursed me for the mirror and gave me a bottle of Glenlivet 18 year 🙂 I still have the rest of the can of Arizona Beige. I can't decide if I want to paint a model with it or not.

That's an AI image, right? Or a real car? Certainly not a 1/32 scale model. A master craftsman must have built it if it is. 😁 -

Why? Almost everything is covered. Except for the GM "coil near plug" engines, there aren't any plug wires. Just paint detailing, most everything is black plastic or aluminum anyway. Add heater hoses if you want and you are done. You don't need to go Full Guthmiller and scratch the fuel lines from the direct injection high pressure fuel pump to the injectors or scratch build a purge solenoid and the lines into the intake unless you want to. And I don't want to. -
Maybe an enterprising airman is smuggling in kits through Okinawa on USAF aircraft and is selling them under the table at the commissary? (could happen....)

I like Kris' distributors as well, especially the V8 HEI for day 2 (or 4) GM builds. I just wish they were available with vacuum advance (all of them not just the HEI)

Depending on the make of the car, be sure to check OEM before you buy aftermarket. There has been a flurry of Teams messages at work this week from colleagues working on their own vehicles and checking parts prices. Aftermarket RAM radiator hose from brick and mortar - $96-129 Aftermarket RAM radiator hose from popular online reseller - $45-60 OEM - $55 Name brand aftermarket from Walmart.com - $40 Mazda stabilizer bar end links from brick and mortar - $55-60 each Popular online retailer - $16-40 each OEM - $26 each We owned a U.S. built Nissan years ago and I bought everything at the dealer. Brake pads, hoses, belts, etc. were all half or less than aftermarket. Anything maintenance or wear related was dirt cheap. I remember that one belt was $7 from Nissan, $50 aftermarket.

Flat and dry and brown areas, especially with trees, are frequently sites that experience massive conflagrations, not to be confused with massive flatulations.

Country around Cholame is kind of dry and brown and flat, but as you head west it gets prettier around Paso Robles.

What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can smell that Fargo all the way to California. Guy that was two years ahead of me in HS drove a red 64 Thunderbird with the wires and Sports Roadster tonneau. It was his dads, and just a very well preserved 12 year old car at the time. -
30th of September, 1955 is when James Dean went splat in Cholame.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, what preventative maintenance would have kept the valve body from having to be replaced now? I don't know where you live, but you are overdue for finding a good, trustworthy independent shop that knows Subarus.

three on the tree shifting

Driven a few, never owned one. Had a couple of friends with 3-on-the-floor Mustangs, including one with the non-synchro first "paper" gearbox. Owning a Mustang with a toploader, I had a really tough time driving either one of them without putting some thought to what I was doing. When I was writing service in the late 80s-early 90s, we would occasionally get a bottom-feeder F-series with a 3-on-the-tree in the service drive. I wrote one up, and the lot kid went to move it. His eyes got as big as saucers and he looked at me and shrugged. He could drive a manual (his own car was a Fiero) but he didn't know exactly what to do with this truck. We were kind of far away to shout, and I didn't feel like walking over there, so I raised my right fist at him and made an exaggerated motion back toward my body and down. Kevin caught on right away, gave me a thumbs up, and away he went. I did drive an 40s Chevrolet a long time ago with vacuum shift (working) and that weird lever. -
