I have been returning to this pic all day and staring at it. I have never seen so many 1970s colors in the same place at one time, not even the Brady's kitchen. And I was present through the entire 1970s. I think that a lot of the "Porsche-powered" buses were thrown away after the third or fourth engine failure. The parts prices were just too much for these compared to the earlier carbureted 1600 dual-ports and the domestic manufacturers were turning out halfway decent vans with actual air conditioning.

My dad built an original Big T somewhere in the 1963-65 time period, and it was always on display when I was a kid. It became a bit worse for wear. Mom would try to dust it and break parts off. Dad smoked until 1971, Mom smoked until 1979, so the white parts weren't so pristine. The chrome was pretty much gone. Sadly, I did not save it or his Monogram Duesenberg. I have never seen one of the Lindberg kits, but when the reports started coming in that there was no chrome, I immediately thought of a period "rat rod" kind of thing that some young guy in SoCal would have built and driven, maybe hoping to take it to the dry lakes. Weathered body, etc. No money for chrome axles or backing plates. Just rattlecanned or brush-painted junkyard parts.

RAM Power Wagon
Rodent replied to Mopar - D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I used "real" tint film on an AMT Chevy dually promo and it worked very well since the truck's windows are fairly flat. I didn't do the windshield. -

I have the Easy Click 1/16 356, and it is a nice kit. I expect the same from any of the others in any scale.

Any suggestions on how to unload model kits?
Rodent replied to Hotrod 97's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had this happen once as well and I find it irritating that someone would bid on something and not have the funds in place to pay for it when the purchase was made. I wound up blocking that buyer from ever bidding on any of my items again. -

I also have a Flintstone Ventura II body. It is very nice, smooth casting. I wish the grill inserts were separate, but that is too much to hope for since the original AMT kit had them molded in to the nose as well.

Most of the grocery stores and Target around here carry the French, Italian, and the Maj. Dickason for ~$7/lb. I have never seen the Peru. See what you miss when you move away from Sacramento? ?

Rodent replied to Yamakashi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Weird question, but what about getting a compressor with a tank? Plug it in outside, let it run until it stops, then bring it inside and spray? -

I had an unbuilt '70 GP in my stash for about 30 years, and I re-homed it on eBay not long ago. I built the '72 as a new kit as a kid. I love the lines of the car. My mom's half nephew (?) inexplicably bought a new one every year from 70-72 and they were all light blue with a white interior and vinyl top. Why buy a new car every year when your neighbors won't recognize it from your old one? I brought that 70 out at least every six months for the last 5-6 years and tried to figure out how I could build it with a better chassis, more realistic engine, air conditioning, etc. I gave up every time. If Round2 did a Grand Prix, i would like to see something like the 63 Nova Craftsman Plus. Get an engine plate from the promo, the chassis with the separate exhaust and rear end like the kit, and some newly tooled Rally II wheels. I would be all over that. Same thing for the MPC GTOs.

Da interwebs sez that 8-lugs came out part way through the 1960 model year, so that is an option if you want stock.
