  1. I recognize that car from a period magazine article I have somewhere in my Wall O'Mags. I will look for it and try to post it this week. I am amazed it still exists! Very cool. Where is it now?
  2. Actually most high dollar (Pound, Mark, Franc, Lira) sports cars in the 20s and 30s had the long nose (long engines) and very short tails. Just look at Jag SS100, Bugatti T57S, Alfa supercharged sports cars from 2300 to 8C 2.9, Mercedes SSK, among many others. American cars rarely had that look. The only ones I can think of are Duesenberg SSJ (2 built!) and the Stutz DV32 Super Bearcat (10 built). Between Art and Christian I think they nailed every 1/24-25 Classic ever made. Just to be precocious I will add the Bandai Duesenberg. It is hard to tell what body it has. I think they made it up. It is a sedan. Wills Finecsat and Autokits in England made some nice white metal kits, too. I like the Bentley, Vauxhall, and Bugatti T59. The Autokits have a very cool Morgan 3 wheeler and MG midget and K3 Magnette from the 30s. It appears Southestern Finecast still makes all of them. Google them.
  3. The fourth Monogram Duesenberg is the metal kit with the long wheelbase Murphy Boattail body. The third Packard is also one of the metal kits and it is dual cowl version of the Speedster Phaeton. Even though it is a 1941 car we can't forget the Linoln Continental! The Monogram 540k coupe is definitely a little bogus. They meant to make a Special Coupe but it is highly inaccurate. Italieri/Testors did 2 V-16 Cadillacs, a 33 Imperial, and a 540K Cabriolet B, along with two different Bugatti Royales. MPC has 2 different bodied 32 Imperials. Johan has 3 different 31 V-16 Cadillacs which are all excellent kits. With the Jo-Hans look for early releases with the Gold Cup on the box. They are much cleaner and better molded. There are actually a good number of great classic cars out there. If only I had time to get them all built! I would stay away from the Lindbergs. The Auburn has possibilities but the Cord is awful and there is a Monogram to build so why bother. The 46-48 Lincoln intigues but I would graft the bits onto a Monogram to make a good model of it.
  4. That looks fast! Love the name....Missile Cooper! I might borrow that one day.
  5. Not surprising because of the world economy. A Picasso just went for $100 million. Wealthy folks will park their money in something rare, solid and real! The Atlantic coupe is one of three and it's history is solid as is its sister car owned by Ralph Lauren. The third one is in France and it's history is very murky. Allegedly hit by a train or bombed during WWII and rebuilt. Likely that they jacked up the Bugatti ID plate and slid a new vehicle under it.
  6. You definitely have that mid to late 60s look to it. I would paint it lime green or some such color!!
  7. Just here. I look maybe 2-3 times a day. Time spent depends on what is posted that is interesting to me and amount of drama going on!
  8. Done yet?
  9. I found this ad in July 66 Rod & Custom magazine. Those were the days - two famous custom cars as prizes in a sweepstakes contest run by a model car company! Revell/Pactra gave away cars too. I just saw an article about a slot car competition in California and the grand prize was a new Triumph Spitfire. All we get these days is a trophy or a plaque - not even a lousy T-shirt. Sigh.
  10. Never saw that one!
  11. The best resin Ebay model ever seen! I found this pearl while perusing Ebay listings! It looks like a Miller Memorabilia Bondo copy of the original Tucker promo from way, way back. If you take the first 2 digits off of the price it is still too high!! Good yucks, man!
  12. Junkman, if you have a stack of the original issue 40 Ford Pickups, I would love to buy one off of you. Not for $350.00, of course. I have been looking for a reasonably priced one for years. I might find a Unicorn, first. The re-issues of the kit can't be built stock, only the first issue. I am a sucker for the original flat box Monogram kits, anyway. Sometimes I just get the boxes - who has time to build the blasted kit!
  13. Obviously it depends on what area of the country you are in. Spring and fall are the nost popular but I have gone to shows all over in all seasons. Doesn't matter to me except I hate going to the desert or the south in July or August. I see IPMS Nats are in Phoenix in August this year! Oy! And I would hate to forget my passport and birth certificate going there!!
  14. I love that color. I must get some! It is a beautiful model. I usually don't look at too many non race car 'under glass' posts but I thought what the heck! Glad I did look. I like your build very much. It's beautiful and very tasteful.
  15. That is wild and funky! I like seeing some imagination at work. Very fun and cool.
  16. I thought there was only one section. "View New Content" Only one comment - Hot rod and custom pickups should not be in light commercial or truck categories, same with racing pickups. That is being too literal and/or anal. The fact that they are rods, customs or racing should inform that decision.
  17. With that amount of time and effort, he could have just built a 1/1 car!
  18. I could have sworn you were there. There was a mini-NNL in Mark Gustavson's garage. I must have mixed you up with some other guys from Oregon. Oh well.
  19. This car almost inspired me to start building. I saw it at Bonneville. It was a beautifully detailed car with GMC engine with all kinds of speed goodies on it. I think it went 139 when I saw it back in 90 or 91. Was that the year you were out there, Jairus? I am sure you would have remembered it!
  20. That looks more like a 20s -30s hot rod or dry lakes racer. I think back then they called them Gow Jobs. I would suggest using the bits from the AMT 27 T touring. The wires will look about right and it should have a dropped T front axle. I found this pic on Google. Pretty close to the Jimmy body. It looks like they used the Olds radiator from the Beverly Hillbillies kit. The Hop-up books that have been published the last few years have a lot of pics of these type cars. The turtle deck should be fine. Ed Iskenderian's famous T roadster had one.
  21. I noticed that deeper into the listings there was an AMT Indy car team set which has the 65 El Camino, Indy Roadster, and trailer sitting at $9.50!!! WHAAAAA! Also humorous to note is that all kits are 60s.....even the kits from the 70s! Lots of cool stuff listed. Wishing I was a bit less impecunious!!!
