  1. Welcome, Rich! Nice builds ya got there! Dig the Mini...I'm sitting on one that I'm waiting on the right color inspiration before I tear into it.
  2. I would also say that some pro-touring cars also have modern engines (think crate engines, or the ubiquitous GM LSX engines) and interiors upgraded with bucket seats with much more pronounced bolstering, such as Recaro or Corbeau-type seats. Look at the Foose "Overhaulin'" cars, the cars of Steve Strope, or Troy Trepanier...that's what I think of when I hear "pro-touring".
  3. Have the week off from work (involuntarily...), so I figured I'd try to knock this one out during the week. The kit: The paint: The rolling stock: No real progress to show as of yet...the chassis is almost finished being detail-painted, the interior components are sprayed basic flat black, and the body is primed with a couple minor spots to repair. The body was pretty warped, so I spent a few minutes with a sink of hot water trying to straighten it out...epoxy will have to finish the job for me I think. Should have actual progress pics up tomorrow night...stay tuned!
  4. That looks fantastic! Cool thing about the color-shifting nail polish is that it's just as effective as actual automotive (or even hobby) paint, but at a fraction of the price.
  5. That thing's gonna look mean.
  6. Simply beautiful work...the color is outstanding, and i'm really looking forward to seeing it with those PE wire wheels!
  7. I've had good luck with Purple Power and plain ol' Windex.
  8. I use real window tint film...I bought a roll at Wal-Mart for, like 10 bucks...ans that roll will last me several lifetimes! I cut off a piece to fit, peel off the backing layer, and SLOWLY apply it to the kit glass, a little at a time, using firm pressure and being very careful not to get air bubbles trapped under the tint. Not the best pic, but the rear window of my GTO Judge here is tinted with window tint film:
  9. Short answer...yes. Yes I would. Actually, I was just thinking about a line of Foose models the other day... To those that say that Foose is just big wheels and paint, let me share some of his own designs... P32: Grand Master: Hemisfear: Impression: Somewhat off the subject, but I'd also like to see a line of Hot Wheels kits, based off the old Redline-era cars like the Twin Mill, Splittin' Image, Beach Bomb, Whip Creamer, Bye Focal...okay, I'll stop (I'm also a bit of a Hot Wheels collector...lol).
  10. Are the center caps separate pieces on those? If so, I have a set of those that came off of a Testors BMW M6 kit. Mine are in not so good condition though...
  11. Between those two, I'd use the Hemi. But ultimately, I'd see about using the Ford 427 from the AMT 1:16 scale Cobra kit.
  12. Well, when I'm in the workshop, it's usually for maybe 15 minutes at a time, so I don't listen to too much. But the only CD i have in the workshop at the moment is Dream Theater - "Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory". I can listen to most music, with the exception of rap, hip-hop, and country. Mostly I listen to progressive rock and progressive metal, bands like the aforementioned Dream Theater, Rush, Genesis, etc.
  13. SO I stripped the chrome off a set of Pegasus wheels and was quite surprised with what I saw... All from the same package...3 white and 1 rust-colored. Anyone else ever experience anything like this? Maybe it's like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", but with a "Rust Wheel" instead of a "Golden Ticket"...
  14. You mean something kinda like this? In this instance, the spokes are painted Steel...
  15. I already received an email reply from Mr Sackey...here's what he has to say: "Mark: Well, strictly speaking, ALL GTOs were built in red. BUT, Ferrari-associate Pininfarina did paint one of the prototypes in yellow, although this was done post-production. I suppose you could refer to the Pininfarina job as "done by Ferrari" since they are Ferrari's official coach-builder. That car has become accepted by all enthusiasts as the "yellow GTO" and Ferrari did give it Clasiche Certification last year, so if you want your GTO to be yellow, sure, go ahead! In case it helps you for accuracy's sake, the yellow car's chassis number 47649, and here are some pics showing its current Italian registration number MO.846288 which you may want to replicate... Hope this helps you! Very Best, Joe" Very helpful information!
  16. That is gorgeous! Did you have to alter the ride height at all to get that stance, or is that box-stock? Thanks for everyone's input. I sent an email to Mr Sackey to ask his opinion. I really dig the yellow, but I'm going for factory-correct on this build.
  17. So a couple of days ago I started working on my Revell of Germany Ferrari 288 GTO kit. My initial plan was to play it straight and paint it Italian Red, but a Google image search showed me a couple in yellow. Was yellow actually available on this car, or were all 200 or so painted red? I've been unable to find any color information during my research, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  18. A little more progress... Body polished a little and some paint touchups done...red stripes applied using scrap red decals. No clear yet. Suspension mostly installed. Scratchbuilt front springs, using pieces of chrome sprue and red craft wire. Paint looks blotchier in pictures than it does in person...
  19. Couple new pics: Body is painted and color is wetsanded...needs touchups to where paint was sanded off edges/bled through the mask/etc, then a light polish, then clear, then wetsand (if needed) and polish again. The white stripe is Tamiya Pearl White, although it does not show in the pic: Wheels are coated with Testors Graphite Dust lacquer, although it looks like they could use another coat: Hope to get front and rear suspension installed tonight, we'll see...and yes, I know the passenger-side A-pillar is broken.
  20. I did not know that...well, you learn something new every day! Eh...I'm leaving it silver, cuz I like the way it looks!
  21. A little progress... The kit 427, air cleaner not installed, and needs touchups: Chassis painted in Testors Deja Blue lacquer, this is the color that the body will be as well...actual color is darker and less purple than the pic portrays. Tank was masked and sprayed with Tamiya Silver Leaf: Interior color, I forgot what it is...lol...Krylon or something-or-other satin red: Progress will be slow on this one...I usually only have time to build on weekends. I was gonna lay down the pearl white for the center stripe on the body, but it's too darn windy today! Also...does anyone have any recommendations on how to non-permanently attach the air cleaner? The molded-in detail of the carbs is pretty decent and I don't want to hide that...
  22. No criticisms to offer at the moment, but it looks like a sweet project...I have an unnatural attraction towards XLRs!
  23. Hiya kids, just started a new project this afternoon... Revell California Wheels '69 Corvette Coupe...the kit: The wheels: The color scheme: The wheels will be more of a gunmetal color, rather than the bronze color that they're molded in. Pics as it progresses, so stay tuned!
  24. Yes. Yes it is. Thanks for the compliments everyone!
  25. Finally got off my butt and finished one I've had sitting around for a while, it's the Revell '69 GTO Judge. Paint is Duplicolor GM Autumn Maple, with Testors Fabric Tan interior. Engine and wheels/tires are parts-box items. It's not perfect, but not too bad for me...lol On to the pics!
