Is stealing electricity part of going green?
cartpix replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At first, I thought this person was a clueless fool, with a small feeling of entitlement. After reading the rest of the story, I feel this guy is a selfish dolt, with a HUGE sense of entitlement. I'm sure he also told the cop, that he pays his salary. His single contribution to the officer's pay, was probably used up, in the time it took for him to roll up & asses the situation. His blatant disregard for public & probably private property, is appalling. He must feel, since he is, single handed, saving the environment, he is owed that electricity. I mean, don't you know who he is? Arguing with the officer, make me wonder, why he wasn't arrested, on the spot, & his precious electric car impounded. Not the brightest light, in the harbor. Jeff -
Beautiful job, so far. I hope those decals work out, because they are funny as heck. Jeff

Great idea, Tom. I think I have his orange Toyota, from the first movie. Jeff

Thanks. It's not real common but it really pops. Jeff

I know, right? But I didn't cut up the chassis, to add huge tires, scratch build a roll cage, aftermarket goo gaws, etc. I did stop myself from cutting the back seats, to have them folded down, like a picture, I saw on Google. It did look cool, though. LOL It's a nice kit. Everything fits, no flash, & parting lines weren't too bad. Typical, newer Revell kit.

I got some color, on it, today. Unfortunately, I also got some crud, in the color. I will let it cure, color sand it, & lay down another coat or 2.

Thanks for all the comments. PappyD340, it will be German Metallic Silver. I was going to paint it, yesterday, but it rained. The weather looks good, today, so I'm hoping to get some color color, on it, today.

Thanks Kyle If it doesn't rain, tomorrow, I'm going to try to get some paint, on the body. It will be Silver, btw. Jeff

Custom 1966 Volvo P1800s "Bringing this back to the bench!"
cartpix replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've always liked the P1800 & when I saw the subject picture, I Googled the car & fell in love with it. Then I saw the wagon. I almost fell out of my chair (I'm a huge long roof lover). Fantastic job on it. The subject is awesome & your depiction, of it, is beyond awesome. Jeff -
Ferrari 340 Competizione FINAL PICS UP.....Getting casted!
cartpix replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great job. If someone told me, they were combining a 57 Chevy, Cobra, VW Bug, the last thing I would think was a Ferrari. Just amazing. My hat is off, to you, Sir. Jeff -
This is my first post, that isn't a reply. After reading a topic, about detail Hell, I decided to build something less detailed, than the several kits I've stall on, because of detail Hell. I pulled out a Revell 67 Dodge Charger, from my stash, & went to work. I also decided to experiment with light weathering. Here's what I have, so far. Comments & criticisms are welcomed. Red interior Lightly weathered chassis Hemi with plug wires & fuel lines... ...that get covered with the air cleaner Kit Cragars with kit front tires & parts box rears Close up. if you look close, to the right of 12 o'clock, you can see the valve stem, I made of stretched sprue Misc parts

For thew 60's, I agree with the Johan Turbine. Unbelievable, for the time, & has stood the test of time. AMT 289 Cobra, well engineered, well detail, well engineered. The 70's was a "dead era", with nothing earth shaking. The 80's became the "new era" of models. The AMT 66 Nova, Monogram Pro Stocks, & Revell 69 Camaro were ground breaking kits. Tamiya & Fujimi, produced outstanding kits, in the 80's. Tamiya Mercedes C9 & Porsche 956, Fujimi Ferrari 365 Daytona come to mind as some of the best. As for contemporary kits, Revell has been leading the pack, with great subjects, like the 49 Merc, 69 Nova, & Tri 5 series. Of all of those, it's hard to pick the best. Jeff

It's not like it's the first time Hollywood let facts get in the way of a good story. Jeff -

What Is Your Top 10 List of Ugliest Cars Ever?
cartpix replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If it wasn't for the Le Car, there wouldn't have been the R5 Turbo. But then again, the Le Car was pretty ugly but the R5 Turbo was a work of art. Jeff -
Anyone been watching street outlaws?
cartpix replied to Dragfreak's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been around real street racing in L.A. There are a lot of trailered cars. Why wear out parts, when you don't have to. The reason they race at the airport, on the show, is so they have time to set up those huge portable lights & all the camera gear. In the time it takes to set up all that, a real street race will have taken place, the cars would be back on the trailers, & everybody would be home, in bed. Those lights & camera crew, would attract the cops, like a moth to a flame. It probably has a lot to do with liability to the network, too. While it is scripted, it does accurately depict what really does go on in big time, high stakes, street racing. I've been there, I've seen it. Jeff -
31 Nash: way beyond "Rat Fiink" Coupe....."Finished Photos"
cartpix replied to John Teresi's topic in Model Cars
I love looking at your WIPs & finished stuff. It's just flat amazing. A lot of people build outlandish stuff that's fictional & they have a lot of wiggle room, on their builds. You, build outlandish stuff, that is well documented, NO wiggle room. Another great build. Jeff -
Awesome. It fits right in with the other retro late models, like the new Challenger, Mustang, etc. I really like the projector headlights & the bumpers. That is exactly how GM would do it. The only thing that they would do differently, is it wouldn't be a true hard top. It would have hardtop doors but they would hide a b-pillar behind a non functioning quarter window, for roll over protection.Other than that, it's just how I would see it, in the showroom of my local Chevy dealer. I'd buy one before I would buy a new, doesn't even look like the old one, even though they say it does, Camaro. Jeff

It looks good, so far. I'm looking forward to seeing it going together. It looks like a pretty easy building kit, with great detail. Jeff

^^^ There must be an awful lot of us old guys, buying these, to warrant 9 releases. Jeff -
I worked for Vector, 20 odd years ago, when he went into "full" production. The prototype in a building right next to the composite shop. There was also a small block Ford with Gurney heads, in the same building. It was an interesting time period, in my life. Jeff

Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
cartpix replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I got back into the hobby, I used rattle cans for the first couple paint jobs. The last one (Boyd Purple) went on super smooth, no orange peel, & really shiny. Now, I use cans for primer & I have a couple cans of semi gloss black, from Home Depot. I use a Paasche VL for all my colors. I even decanted a spray can & shot it through my AB. Came out great. For clean up, I bought some squeeze bottles, like ketchup comes in at restaurants, fill it with lacquer thinner & spray it through my AB, where the jar plugs in, pull the needle & squirt thinner through the back, while holding down the button. I put it back together & it's clean. If you don't want to clean up that much, get an external mix AB. Jeff
