The EXCLUSIVELY '32 VICKY ONLY thread. Show us what you got!!!
mrm replied to mrm's topic in Model Cars
I was reading about tinted primers in TRJ and apparently the trend of leaving a street rod in tinted primer, started in Maryland with a blue tinted primer car. -
Looking good so far. I was just reading about the very car you are building in an old copy of Rodder's Journal the other day. Can't wait to see the finished result.

Thank you. Not my style in 1:1, but I appreciate it. Your build captures the era well. Love the color. what is it? -
I'll kick it off with one of my wild creations from years ago. This Phantom Pick Up was a european forum challenge and the entire model was finished in 10 days. It was 9 years ago and unfortunately the WIP pictures are long lost. The body is made from one '32 Tudor sedan, cut from the beltline up and the roof cut right behind the A-pillars. Then a second '32 Tudor gave it's entire rear section, which was inserted in the first body. This created the back of cab to look like the back end of a sedan and to be identical to the "tailgate". The bed is stained balsa wood with BMF. The fuel tank in it is aluminum tear drop profile stock used in RC planes. The frame is very heavily modified item from the Sedan kit. It looks stock, which was exactly the goal. But in fact it is stretched, Z'd, the rails are considerably taller (which hides how much the body is channeled) and my favorite part - the bottom reveal does not pick up where the fenders usually are, like on the stock one, but continues all the way to the front to mimic the same line on the bottom of the body and side hoods. Speaking of hoods, They are lengthened cut for ventilation and have moldings from a '50 Ford pick up. When they are on, the moldings continue over the cowl, but when they are off, there is no trace of them. The suspension is from the kit, but just modified to sit lower. The engine is also from the kit and I am not sure, but I believe the intake was a modified SBC item from Monogram's '29 RPU. Wheels are from the '50 Ford Pick up with the kit's tires on the front. The rears were modified to fit in Pegasus aluminum sleeves and were wrapped with the rear tires from AMT Prowler. The interior is modified to fit Revell '32 3-window items with fare share of MCG details, where the grille came from too. Paint is nail polish, For some reason it's name has stuck in my mind - New York Pizzaz. Hope you like it, although these are old pictures. I should definitely snap some new ones to show more of the details.

Hi all, This is the second thread like this I am starting. Show us all your Deuce Pick Ups. I guess the '34 truck should be part of this thread too, as it is basically same thing. Let's see your stock, drag, street rod, fendered, open top and whatever other Deuce PU. I know Drag City Casters released not too long ago a resin body for a '32 RPU and the "Lindberg" '34 Truck is readily available in HL across the country for a cool 40% off, so there should be no shortage of these. Again, I'll call out to Tim Boyd to provide a decent dose of inspiration.

Thanks for posting it. The Phantom Vicky definitely qualifies as it is unmistakably Vicky. I dig the retro approach on yours. -

Thank you. I just tried to replicate the attitude of the Vicky I saw on the T-shirt, the best I remembered it. -

I'll kick it off with the first Vicky I build about six years ago. The model was inspired by a T-shirt art, I saw on somebody's back at the Heartland nationals. Body is resin. Most likely Jimmy Flintstone, but not sure. Frame is highly modified AMT "Phantom Vicky" with the quick change rear I molded and cast from the one in the Red Baron show car. Interior is mostly modified Phantom Vicky. Motor came from the parts box (I think from some mustang kit) and the exhaust I think came from the AMT model T kit. Wheels and tires are from the Revell Willys. Paint is Tamiya Bright Red, which is basically the Ferrari Formula 1 red from 2000. It is very orangy. Hope you like it and yes, the camber issue on the right front, evident on the frontal picture has been addressed. Grille, tail light and interior pieces are MCG. The turned aluminum parts on the engine are Parts by Parks (I believe) THANKS FOR LOOKING -
Hi all, I wanted to start a thread like this for a long time. Actually several threads like this, concentrating on certain popular body styles. So here it is. Let's see all those great Vicky Deuces! Please refrain from posting any other '32 Ford body styles, with the exception of the B400, which I would consider being the "Convertible Vicky". The Vicky is one of my favorite Deuces and the subject of few of my projects. I have seen some amazing Deuce Vickies on here and I am counting on seeing some of them in this thread (wink, wink, Dennis and Tim). I can think of at least 5 different basic ways to build a Vicky, so don't be shy and post them up boys!

It is also absolutely mindblowing to me, that no company has ever released any '33/'34/'35/'36 Chevies in any shape or form. "34 Chevies make amazing customs or street rods and I am pretty sure that plenty of people would love to build them stock too. And they are big enough to fit whatever motor you please and keep the hoods.
-
I beg to disagree. Yes it needs some adjustments, but it is pretty much the only true street rod IRS out there. I have been wishing that Revel (or anyone for that matter) would make just one time a truly modern street rod chassis with proper IFS and IRS. A specifically designed for fenderless rods full chassis.

I am gathering the parts and totally overthinking my take on this challenge. Altho I do have plenty of parts to build two of them, I'm gonna stick to just the closed cab, which I will most likely chop the roof on. I have way too many projects started in all kind of stages of completion. So far I have decided on: The wheel/tire combo, same as on Tim's second truck. Chopped cab The corvette engine from the Beatnik Bandit II Independent rear (maybe front too) Leaning towards some kind of pastel light purple for the colour with hand painted graphics. Thread coming up in the next few days

And to add to my previous dream session, Revell can add a whole other string of home runs if they follow up the '32 series with the same sort of variations of '33/'34 series. The eliminator is a nice kit, but nowhere near the '32 level. And then again they can capitalize on mostly standard mold with just releasing new body style periodically. Nobody can convince me that a modern tool well optioned '34 Tudor Sedan will not fly off the shelves faster than anything else currently available, if it was engineered with the same options as their '32 Tudor.
-
I know that this is just a Pipe dream, but I really hoped they would continue with their '32 series. And what I mean is keep adding body styles and engine and wheel/tire options. Like a proper Vicky body. Or a nice Phaeton. They could totally use the trick from AMT's book and add the Rat Roaster windshield and chopped vertical portion of the roof, to create stock or chopped roof. The "Lindberg" '34 Pick up is a good option for a cab, but it would be great to have a proper modern tool '32 PU. Not to mention that following up with RPU would be a breeze, considering that you could add the entire existing chrome tree from the Roadster kits with the windshield. And whatever '32 they issue/reissue, please, please, PLEASE bring back the tire combo from the original Roadster kit. And I know, I know, this has been discussed to death, but add suspension options. I mean, how hard is it to add an I-beam front with split wishbones or alternative radius rods? I am afraid to even bring back the issue of a quick change with a spring again. LOL I am willing to bet, that any such kits would be a huge hit and fly off the shelves, especially if you keep changing the options in them.
-
Thanks Tim. Do you have any info, if of course you are at liberty to say, if once released, Revell plans on adding variations like they did with '32 series?
-
Where is the MODEL A COUPE? Well........that's all I had to say!
-
I didn't mean to personally challenge you, but ratter make some sort of a group build challenge, where a few people build a Tim-Boyd_themed 29APU. I think it would be interesting, because from what I see, even though you are trying to build a billet style rod, your traditional style is taking over. and it will be the same way with me. No matter how traditional I try to build a rod, my high tech style takes over. Either way, I'll take on the challenge.
-
I love it. This totally my kind of build. Following.

I got two of these bodies too and I can attest the the great quality. These bodies are just as good as the kit's part f not better. I have not started mine, but I have started work on the moredoor Duce, which is of the same great quality. To anyone who's thinking about ordering products from DragCity, all I have to say is order with confidence. Great quality product with equally great customer service.
