  1. Very cool Brad! Especially since you know who built them and feel that responsibility to be their caretaker! For the '40, I think the tail light footprint on the right side would yield the replacement part. Any ideas anyone? It's a pitty the hood is missing, I don't know what to do to match that paint. A bit of dusting and judicious application of soap and water would yield some good results. Here's what I did with a car that was missing the hood: Dave Burket gave me this old survivor of a '57 Ford. We especially liked that it uses all the custom parts, even those that haven't been in the reissues. When I got it, the suspension was trashed, so I opened up a brand new kit to install new parts. Here it is up on all fours. Note that it was missing it's hood and that's the replacement part just sitting there. I tried to match the paint, but wasn't successful in finding that color in modern model paint lines. Sometimes you get lucky and it's a Testors spray still in manufacture, but no luck here! After looking at it for a long time, I decided a period two tone would be in order. I had this Tamiya aqua and carefully taped off the entire car. It was stuck together really well and I wasn't going to force it apart. Again I touched up the silver and added one of my 1962 AutoWorld plates. This one had the custom tail light bezels that aren't in recent releases, but was missing the lenses. Of course those are in the latest releases, so I had a few pairs. And while we are on '57 Fords, here's one I'm planning on restoring. Again, the suspension is wiped out. This one had the roof sheared off of it. I pulled it out of the bottom of a dealer's junkbox at a show and when he saw me looking it over, he laughed that it was so sad that I could just have it. I saw promise in it so I took it. Little did he know it would cruise again someday! What I like about this period piece is that it uses the other set of custom parts than the blue car above. The roof was cut from the same body that gave the hood for the blue Ford. The front clip went to someone on one of the boards who wanted to graft the front wheel wells onto the newer Revell '57 kit. Again, I won't try to match paint, I am planning on painting the roof gold.
  2. Here's one of my favorites I've named The Duessy Duece! Someone with imagination created this beauty!
  3. My buddy Max gave me this trio. Since a few '49s have been posted, here goes! He said he knew I'd appreciate these for what they are, while anyone else would see $5 parts cars. All built by the same person, who for some reason didn't install glass in any of them. The blue Ford and the Merc are sitting as you see them near the TV in my model room. I did get to restoring the red '49... For some reason it was built without any glass, and being assembled tight, I managed to fish new kit glass into the interior. The car was missing two of the wheel centers and those were provided by a friend from the Spotlight Hobby board. I also added the missing spotlight. I have a sheet of the AutoWorld 1962 license plates, so every car I finish in the Olde Kustom Kollection gets one of those period pieces. I polished it up a bit and touched up the silver trim with a silver paint marker, that is a great match for Testors sticky silver, only it dries! The engine bay, as created by the original builder. I was tempted to sand the seam off the top of the air cleaners but left them for originality. Others have said I should've BMFed all the trim, but I find it important to keep these old beauties as created, as not to distort history and to illustrate the progression of our art from it's humble beginnings.
  4. Um no, Puerto Rico is the USA so the same rates apply. Probably less than New York to California.
  5. I used Model Masters Panzer Gray spray can on the Caravan bumpers. And here's where my Prowler wheels wound up.. My original issue kit is still in the box, minus these!
  6. I restored this Ranchero from a box of broken parts Original 1960 Merc custom has a working AutoWorld lighting kit installed! Custom Lancer Two shots of the Novastar! 1961 Chevy Wild '62 Valiant pickup Ranchero roadster pickup And one wild custom! I always wonder about these models pasts... were they hobby shop show winners? Did they ever appear in a magazine?
  7. I"ll add a few....
  8. Funny thing is that the response to the Model King reissue was ho-hum, it was a slow seller. So Dave never went back for a second batch.
  9. I just got back from a ride to nowhere! Hobby Town in West Chester PA isn't there anymore. I needed to stock up on Tamiya paints, brass rod and Evergreen. One more hobby shop bites the dust.
  10. Yesterday I found out that I'm getting my very own Ollies! It will be in Eagleview in Exton, PA. There was an ad looking for workers to help set the store up.
  11. Yes. I have a Fotki album of what I believe to be all the box tops. Let me know if I'm missing any! https://public.fotki.com/modelcitizen/model_cars/my_model_car_box/dodge_van_kits/
  12. Last week I stopped by a local CVS and bought a Crown Vic police car and a golf cart that looked to be good to scale. For the most part, if a plastic kit exists I'd prefer to have that, but I have no issue with diecast of a car or truck I'll never see in plastic!
  13. Welcome Robert! We have a little club in New Jersey in case you may be interested.... www.tssmcc.org
  14. Nice work! The only thing that really sticks out is the flat spot above the windshield. You could easily carve the shape on the 1:1 photo from plastic, paint it and glue it to your model.
  15. Nothing left on my bucket list. Still when I go to shows every so often I find something that surprises me!
  16. anyone else see the irony of complaining about one social media site on another?
  17. Thanks for showing me your review. I agree with your comments. I also think the door handles and rear view mirror are huge blobs that could be dealt with on a redo. I'm not confident on my metal work skills. I grabbed this because there was only one on the shelf and I figured I couldn't go wrong at $12 final cost. I do prefer plastic or resin to diecast, and usually only resort to it when there is no other option. We have old AMT 62 & 63s, the Trumpeter kits are 63s and the funny car is a '65. So I don't see a '64 in scale.
  18. I spent a perfect day at the Diversified Scalerz Model Car Meet today. It was held in the party room at this Hobby Lobby.... actually this is the show diorama that these crazy but lovable guys built for the subtheme! Friggin amazing down to trash cans and the proper number of handicap parking spots. This one will reappear at NNL East this coming spring! The show did have 25 vendor tables, and no shortage of goodies. New kit vendors were there with discounted kits, and some of the tables were rented by hobbyists thinning their collections. This is my favorite kind of vendor, where things that you don't see often show up and at reasonable prices... So what did Tom get? Yes, I am still on my Monogram early Ford kick. The '30 coupe and '29 pickup came from a local dealer who had just purchased a collection. Both mint in the box $25 each. The Black Widow and Thames panel were purchased from a friend for $15 each. I needed an extra Thames because I want to create a Woody wagon. Find of the day- The elusive Pyro '52 Chevy wagon! A $12 purchase from the same dealer who bought the collection. I've wanted one of these forever! Upon getting it home I see it was started and the 3 piece body is expertly assembled and the seams gone! I'm actually having trouble seeing where the pieces were glued together. On my way home I did stop at a full size Hobby Lobby to get glue. I saw this neat '64 Nova SS. Priced at $19.99 but we used our 40% off coupon of course. Funny story. Whenever I'm at Hobby Lobby and the lines are too long, I tell everyone on line about the 40% off coupon! The nice young couple with a baby in front of me had two fairly expensive home decor items in their cart. I asked the fellow, and they didn't know about the coupon. I advised them to each buy one of the items. They were very appreciative. And serves HL right for not having enough cashiers!
  19. I have a spray booth I built maybe 20 or more years ago. It's in my model room, and I have the vent hose out a window. Works all seasons.
  20. Just bumping this to the top! Reminder everyone-- this show is tomorrow. Currently have 25 vendor tables sold, there will be a lot of people in attendance to hang out with and loads of very cool models on the 24 display tables! Come on out! Hope to see you there!
  21. Michaels lost touch with their consumers. Here is their sparsely filled model shelves in their "Kids Toys" area. Gotta love their poster of the intended consumer! I wouldn't buy a kit there on principle! My local Michaels is in the shopping center across the road from the brand new Hobby Lobby. I can guarantee that Hobby Lobby is eating their lunch! Someone had posted on a board that Michaels was purchased by one of those venture capital firms that was squeezing the life out of the chain.
  22. And through the magic of the Internet, here's what that floor should look like. I see the step should be shorter and the back panel goes all the way across. I'll have to build another one!
  23. Hey, you asked an open ended question... these two were built when the kit was first released eons ago.... A flaw on this kit that you may want to fix... look at the relationship between the body and the interior tub. There is space around the two sides and rear that you can see up inside the body! I added plastic at the rear, and the step to either side. I'm not sure my step is absolutely correct, but back in the 1980s you were flying without the Internet! and here's the nose of one...
