To answer the original question, our reasons for our love of older cars is the nostalgic aspect. We grew up with them. They were all around us and we had pleasant childhood experiences in those vehicles. Today, even cars we would have never noticed or appreciated back in the day, look good to us because they take us back to simpler times in our lives. I too have passion for the cars of yesterday, but will not claim they are better than the cars of today. Today's vehicles are 35-50 years better in every way than the cars we love, as we'd hope and expect the industry to progress. An example... I used to carpool with a very nice Indian fellow. We became good friends to this day. When we saw a 1966 Mustang in traffic and I pointed it out to him, he wasn't excited. He said it just was a square old looking car. When we saw a '57 Chevy he said it looked like a taxi to him. He just didn't get our passion for the cars since they were not of his experience. Another day we saw a Morris Minor on a trailer. He got very excited exclaiming, "Look an Ambie!" which would have been a Hindustan Ambassador, a licensed copy of that ancient Morris that was probably better than 50% of the cars on the road in India as he was growing up. He eagerly told me how his father had one, and he had learned to drive in it. He was excited because his sense of nostalgia kicked in, just as ours does when we see those ancient Chevys!

Amen! I can't wait to get my hands on one! I drove my grandfather's '89 over 200,000 miles before giving the still running car to someone! -
Per the original flyer that Okie put out for the "New Johan", it's reasonable to think that the molds for the classics... 1935 Mercedes and 1931 Lincolns still exist. It was rumored back after the Rambler Wagon came out under Okie, that the next release would be the '59 Dodge and that he had everything ready to go but needed funding to do so. And there's the '59 Dodge in the Moebius photo so add that one to the list of tools that may exist. Also, within the past few years Dave Burket, Model King talked about doing a release of the 59 Rambler wagon under his logo. He has been working with Moebius so it's fair to assume that they have control of those molds. Back after Okie released the Rambler and maybe the Turbine Car, he sent a rambling email out to a lot of folks in the hobby that he was in danger of losing the molds, that they were being held for ransom by some evil force and he needed to raise (was it $50k) immediately to redeem them. I believe that translates to the company he employed for the kit run didn't get paid, and was holding the molds on a workmans lien. We had heard that someone was shopping them around, the IMC name came up, and now they seem to be in Moebius possession. He also did a release of the Plymouth police car. Some folks say he was assembling those kits from the parts hoard he had purchased. BUT, remember they had a "unique" green tinted glass that was never seen before. So it is reasonable to think he had that mold too? Or at least he had to run the glass shot? Right after that there was a rumor that he had the Sho-case molds, and he had used the same molding plant to do a run of those. And when they arrived they were all done in the same green tint plastic, thus useless. I don't know if that was true or just lore. But notice that he was offering the Sho-cases in his original flyer, so did he have that mold too? Has anyone sat down with Okie and asked for his accounting? I'd love to have the real story for history's sake.

Yup, I gave away my Plymouth Breeze to my nephew as his first car because the A/C evaporator went on it (same deal, remove dashboard / replace both heater core and evaporator because you have it out).. I bought a PT Cruiser to replace it... guess what went? Heater core! So $1200 later I have a new heater core and evaporator in this one!

I believe it means that there's a lot more money in genres other than cars! -
Very nice build! I've always wanted to take that kit back to a stock panel.

Great work as always! We know we're getting old when we've owned cars 35 years! Best to ya!

and when you do that, remember the Lindberg '64 Dodge has an excellent chassis to bring this baby into the 21st century! Great looking model.

What did you see on the road today?

Some pics from my vacation, traveling around the Jersey Shore area. Wildwood... These are actually authentic Airstream motel rooms. I thought it was cool when I saw them. Back at work the next week a guy I knew said he stayed in one. He said it was very cool but the air conditioning pumped hard to keep those little ovens cool! Here's one of the famous fruit trucks of Wildwood. There were a couple of them that circulated past our hotel a few times a day. Years ago there were older ones that were a bit more colorful. Saw while driving around. Very nice Mach 1! And it was for sale a few dollars shy of $20K. I believe this was in Sea Isle City, NJ Same with this very nice Cutlass convertible. Between the two I'd pick this one! This little buggy is a City 2 eZone electric vehicle made by CT&T of Korea. It's top speed is only 25 mph and you can see by it's rear plate that it's registered as a "Low Speed Vehicle" for local travel. I found it sitting on the main drag adjacent to the beach in Cape May, NJ And a very cool Bronco spotted in a Pennyslvania Turnpike rest stop on our way home.. -

Aside from what you mentioned, there were a ton of little hardware bits, screws, springs and a working wire loom... very hard to source everything needed. And as you said, I doubt the sales are there. I own most of one, along with it's beat to death box. -
Gnats! One thing I liked about living west if Philadelphia was the absence of gnats and mosquitos, like in NJ. This season with all the damp, we have them in droves! Friggen annoying as we sit outside.

Tom Geiger replied to MPi-KM's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just avoid them by using better one piece tires from my parts kits. -

My day went well. Got out my tension by sawing down two nasty bushes that had been on my list awhile. Then once I worked up a sweat, I went in the pool for the afternoon and sipped beers! After that we went to our favorite pub for dinner. Can't beat today!
