NNL East - - April 21st - - Are you going..???
Tom Geiger replied to Ramfins59's topic in Contests and Shows
Last year we had 100 rooms and sold out. This year we have the whole hotel and sold out. We have gotten a lot of emails asking us to book additional hotels. People are not aware that we have to sign a contract with specific guarantees with each one of them. If we don't make the forecast, we pay for the rooms out of our pockets. So it's not that easy and not worth the financial risk. We already have all the work we can handle! -
In Wayne, New Jersey there's a place with two full gymnasiums worth of new kits, old kits, resin and aftermarket parts and decals from the best vendors in the country. It's called NNL East. There will also be two gymnasiums full of display models built by the best builders in the country, who will be happy to meet you. It's this Saturday, and if you are in New Jersey there's no excuse not to be there! Full details on the website: www.nnleast.com

Maybe Chicken Little was a bit premature? -
I'm pleased that many people showed up at our club meeting yesterday to stuff the NNL East goodie bags! We set up an assembly line the length of the church gym and got all 900 bags stuffed and ready to go for next Saturday! We have some really cool swag in the bags this year! You'll just have to be there to see! WWW.NNLEAST.COM

Ed Sexton had let me know over a month ago that he wouldn't be coming to NNL East personally. He is sending two guys who routinely bring the RM display to shows. -

Looking at the buyer of Revell, they seem to own a fair number of small companies in different venues, from cardboard box manufacturers to high tech companies. It would seem that they have purchased a business with intent of allowing it to continue and make them money. -
Great work Alan! There is a lot of potential in that Olds kit! Ken Kitchen has done some great conversions. I have a few ideas and kits stashed away myself

Nicely done model! Ken Kitchen --- Kitchen Table Resin makes the correct air cleaner. I bought a couple of them. If you do put a six in a '57, find reference photos. The radiator is positioned differently. I once owned a 1956 2 door sedan with a six and powerglide.

Here's my engine. As David said, I routed the wires under the manifolds and once in the truck, it's like I didn't need to bother wiring! You cannot see a thing! -

Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I support a facility in Shanghai and talk with them several times a week. When I met my main contact in person in the USA a couple of years ago, he was very proud to tell me that he had a Buick Century. The next trip over, I let him drive my Buick LaCrosse and he was very excited. I am scheduled to go to there by year's end, as long as the plans don't change. -

Eric, is that a Chinese Buick in the background? Any photos? -
The Modified Stockers were to be the last hurrah for obsolete tooling that the then AMT saw as worthless. So a number of annuals were hacked... yea, hacked into stockers to get a bit more revenue out of the tooling. They are not accurate stock car, note that the primary market then was kids. I have all the reissued ones, and the only one I have experience with is the Falcon. They must not have even had the interior bucket for that one since the interior... or lack of one.. builds off the floor, or actually the top side of the chassis, indents and all. So yes they are a challenge to build, and something we all bought because we remembered them from when we were kids.

I know guys who do the minimal effort thing. Always looking for cheaper materials or an easier way to do something. The guys who don't clean up the mold lines and want to spray their Walmart dollar spray paint directly over red plastic, then come to the board to whine when it doesn't come out well. You advise them that the need to use primer and they respond that it would be too much trouble. He'll assemble his entire chassis or interior, then spray it Walmart flat black. Good enough. Same guy complains that he never wins at contests. You explain the requirements and he responds that contests should be judged like shelf models from 10 feet back so everyone would have a fair chance. (someone actually said that to me) It never occurs to him to work towards the goal. And if you examine it, minimal effort isn't just with models, it's a way of life for this guy. He's lazy at work and expends more effort trying to avoid work then actually doing it would take. His lawn and house are unkempt. His clothes are rumpled. He's in debt. He has an excuse for everything. And everyone pictured someone they know as they read my description! -

Tom Geiger replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
No, that's Al Raab. He sold the HHR a while back. He had close to 300,000 miles on that sucker! Thanks Bob! No worries, I appreciate the interest. I just wish there were more hours in the day. Nobody wants the Valiant in the showcase more than me! -

Gee! Give a guy a break, it's a hobby isn't it? I have been super busy between work going on overload and working on the upcoming NNL East. Work has me traveling so there is no chance to work on models. In fact, I was away last week, here this week and away again the next two weeks leading up to the show... an end in sight? Nope! The Sunday after NNL East, I take off again for a week away. There has been progress since the last post... above is the finished paint and narrowed front bumper from the Revell 59 Chevy. And how it looks today.. As you can see, it's still front and center on my work bench. One good day of work (I don't know when!) and it'll be done! -

For those who want to try the "foil under the paint" trick, note that you still have to carefully trim the foil edges to align with the script. The profit in doing this is that you can leave foil inside of letters, and then leave the paint visible there. I actually have a model that someone thought they could just slap a strip of foil across the script like a band aid... you can see it bright as day! Paint will not hide the foil edges. -
Why do people dig up these old threads???
Tom Geiger replied to Force's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the good part about this site is that everything is archived. Some of us put a lot of thought and effort into our posts, how to's and build threads. Some of them are as good as magazine articles. We can see posts from people we know who aren't with us any more, like Harry, but there are many more! Another site has posts roll off after two weeks or so. Not so good! -
I try to not watch live TV. I schedule the shows I want and watch them to my schedule and fast forward through the commercials.
