  1. Since the beginning of time, high end cars have been immediately crashed. I saw pictures of a Tesla that never got off the lot, the new owner crashed into the sign out front.
  2. I learned a few interesting things about myself and building when I participated in The 24 Hour Build. First thing I discovered was at the six hour mark, I had piles of primed parts and assemblies. It had taken me that long to clean up flash, ejector pin marks and mold lines on the kit parts, and glue together things like the engine.. stuff that would be painted once assembled. That was an eye opener. I had never added it all up since I did it in different sittings over a period of time.
  3. Not Tamiya, but here's my Mini. It's diecast, made by Polystil of Italy back in the early 1970s. They came two ways in Europe, as a finished model under a clear plastic cover, or as a prepainted kit. This one was the kit and I did a lot of detail painting, and added orange felt carpet. This was back when I was 12, and it's survived all these years.
  4. I believe that body came from a company called Scale Kraft in South Africa. I have his Mini Traveler.
  5. This should be cool! I'm watching! Near and dear to my heart, I owned a 1960 Buick Electra coupe for over 25 years!
  6. Barely got a few inches in the suburbs west of Philadelphia. The deer have to look for the bare spots to feed on the grass. They all pose for the camera because they think they're gonna get a hand out!
  7. He mentioned the VA hospital... maybe the poor guy is handicapped by injury gotten while serving to protect our sorry asses??
  8. My only knife wound worth mentioning was cutting plastic sheet stock along a metal straight edge. Apparently my finger tips extended a tiny bit over the edge of that straight edge and I took some skin off the tips of two fingers. My big warning to all... do not spill rubbing alcohol on your lap! I had some in a spray can cap sitting on the bench and my sleeve dragged it off the edge, and right onto my lap. Yes, it burned like all heck on my personal parts, which had me stripping off my pants quick and running for the shower.
  9. Just got back from the hobby shop with my copy. No problems here. Also, someone mentioned the new paper. It's fine with me, I actually like the matte finish better than the glossy. No lamp glare.
  10. There often isn't a reason why, nor do we intend to stop working on the build. Sometimes there's some frustration and we intend to walk away for a day or two, and it just gets extended to forever! Other times, the builds get bumped back in importance when there's a deadline for a contest or club meeting with another build.
  11. I use the camera as a tool as I build. I take photographs of my progress because you see things in photos that you don't see with your naked eye. Sometimes because it's magnified, other times because you are seeing it off your bench. I fix a lot of things I see in my photos. And part of why I post these photos, is because others see things while I have time to fix them!
  12. Just be careful. Get it out of the panel indents etc. Clears, even Testors Dullcote will melt the Sharpie ink and make a mess on your model. Ask me how I know!
  13. Nice work. I have to finish up my Trabant Universal. Super kit, these just fall together!
  14. My favorite thing to look at at model shows is the primer table. That's where you can see exactly how someone is putting something together and learn from it. The masters can put something amazing together, but once it's covered with paint, it may as well be a Danbury Mint diecast!
  15. Thank you to all my friends on the board.
  16. There was a time in the early 20th century when the communist movement wanted to redistribute all the wealth in the USA equally to every man. Rockefeller quipped that the very next day there would again be the rich and the poor. Quite true!
  17. Jim- The efficiency of the postal service amazes me. I've received eBay packages from California to Pennsylvania in 24 hours. You are no doubt part of that. My wife's brother is also USPS for 30 years. Recently lost his position in Eatontown, NJ, a 5 mile drive to Hamilton, NJ an hour away. And he's relieved he didn't lose his job. Sorry to see the USPS in the same mess as the rest of the economy.
  18. Very nice! That's the color scheme on the box as well as the original brochure. I tried to duplicate it back in early 1980s and failed miserably. Betcha I could do it now !
  19. I just went back and reread all the posts from 2013. I'd be interested in seeing what's changed with folks, and how those reporting they were out of work made out. I was one of them and... A funny story. I've been in pharmaceuticals, managing facilities and doing facility planning for over 30 years. I've worked for three different pharma companies, five if you consider the changes in ownership when I've sat in place. I worked for the first one for 15 years, and now I'm back there as a consultant, but working for my old boss from company number two. Small world. I've been there over a year, and it's like I never left. My current job? I run the business end of a Maintenance Reliability Initiative for all the facilities globally. I spend my days talking on the phone and live computer meetings with folks around the world. I work from home much of the time since I do very like face to face.
  20. Somebody ate your windshield Ron! Looks like a great project! I will be watching.
  21. You could've painted it red, then used the Model Masters Chevy engine red over that. It would've covered better. Keep working at it. You will get better at BMF, it takes practice. The good part about BMF is that you can do it over and over until it looks good, not like when you ruin a one and only kit part!
  22. Very cool. If that had a gold vinyl top and interior, it would be a ringer for one I owned back in the late 1970s!
  23. Finishing it is almost a let down that it's over! For the major part of my modeling career I spent a lot of time day dreaming about working on this one. And now I have to find a new favorite project. Still I'm happy to see it through, Thank you to everyone who has commented, and some of you who watched me build and stop over the years! One less thing on my bucket list!
  24. Ha! I get that. I'll watch my threads on my carefully crafted light commercial or beater builds, and I just imagine the guys glanced quickly and thought "What no hemi?" and hit the back key! I do notice that the threads where someone is putting something physically impossible and overly expensive, like a new Ferrari drive train into a Chevette get the most and most enthusiastic responses!
