How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. It's always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go.

What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I loved the Aussie sourced GTO when it first came out! A buddy and I went to a GM drive event and I drove those over and over again. I loved the 5 speed car, the awesome sound of power and how it just hugged the course. I keep one eye out for them used, but they've held some value, there is a cult following. I believe a few things killed the GTO. First Pontiac was on it's way out at the time. Second, it had the exact Pontiac theme styling, grill etc that made it just blend in on the Pontiac lots. It needed to stand out more as a premium car. The third thing I remember was that the Monaro was at the end of that design cycle, so they would've had to redesign the GTO. Apparently sales weren't there to do so. Now the Commodore ute... yea, we do need a new El Camino.. and they will screw that up by it costing too much! -
"Stockifying" Cars
Tom Geiger replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It can be done. I've seen it done at shows and in magazine coverage. In fact, I believe there was a resin stock conversion done... was it AAM? -
Ray! That's why you're not building. You have a project! Don't worry, as soon as this all settles down you will be back to building. I find that when I have a big project --- creative or otherwise, work or otherwise, my brain is full of project so it doesn't wander off to model car projects.

I'm still not able to use my View New Content button when logged in. I've tried it on every device, in every browser including my smart phone. If I am NOT logged in, I will see all the new content. IF I click it when I'm logged in as me, I get a no new content message. There must be some button they can press in my account? Something like the date in my last time visited stuck? It's been this way for a long time, I've mentioned it to the moderators and Dave Ambrose with no solution. It's aggravating since that's the way I'd view the board.

Ever watch Honey Boo Boo? Mama June had her first daughter at 15, and she's a grandmother at 33! Poor breeding practices at best!

I need to use my "ask the audience" card on this one. The wife and I have been sleeping poorly on our older mattress. I thought it was just me, but she says she's been waking up aching and not sleeping well at all. I tend to sleep on my left side and my shoulder hurts. I try to sleep another way but I always wake up that way hurting. I believe it's the bed since I will sleep better in a motel. We saw that Sleep Number had a 50% off sale on a specific model of bed this weekend so we went up to the mall and got a demo. It's decently impressive, and may help us sleep better and feel better. The bed is way expensive, and can be had two ways.. one being a flat bed, and the other version has the ability to raise and lower your head or feet, which doubles the cost. Soooo, just looking for opinions from all fronts... anyone have one? Like it? Hate it? Have the flat version or swear by the one that raises and lowers? Thanks!

Lost that building desire........... again !
Tom Geiger replied to cobraman's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I fall into that 'too much stimuli' category. I have at least 5 projects that could be done with a day's work, but have other ideas... I am also side tracked by summer. Once the pool is closed and I get done with my outdoor painting, I'll be back at it. Ray, you've been away what? two weeks. Sounds like you got side tracked by life and helping your sister move. What is occupying your time now? Is it helping her get settled, spending time with her? Often when life gets back to the routine, we will find we need some bench time. There are times I walk away from the bench for weeks or months. I don't tear it all down, I know I'll be back. and the suggestion to sort out your stuff is a good one. When I get overwhelmed, I organize the hobby room. Once done and I have one project on the bench in front of me, I can refocus! -
Has anyone seen this kit on the shelves ?
Tom Geiger replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Gee Scott, my first thought when I saw that was, "Darn, I gave away my 71 Mustang parts car ages ago!" -
Congrats! Lightweight! I'm headed for 5,000... guess I talk too much!

I think someone needs to build it! Just for the challenge and to freak people out at shows! -
Enjoy those grand kids! My daughters are 26 and 30 and neither has gotten married or had any kids yet. We are almost the only ones of our friends that don't have grand kids yet!

Ha! Won't get fooled again! Last summer I saw the above piece in a silent auction to benefit my trade association. They had all kids of celebrity signed things, but this really struck me! To the left are the lyrics to Baba O'Riley, on the right are CDs signed by Townsend and Daultry. There is a certificate on the back. It wasn't cheap but I needed it. It's on the wall in our family room.

Whats Your Plan For the 3 Day Weekend
Tom Geiger replied to Metalmad's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Saturday- Spent the day painting my bridge. Not the first day of painting and won't be the last. It's quite a project, made even more so by my modeler's knack of over complicating the project with two toning. Worked around 10-5, and couldn't make this old body go any further. Spent 5-6 in the pool. Then made cheese dogs for the wife and Ted. Sunday- Supposed to have friends here for a barbeque.. worried about forecast of rain! Monday- Resume painting if it doesn't rain. -
Prowler was a project to see if the new Chrysler Tech Center could shave time off the design cycle of new cars. It was so cool that they put it in production as an attention getter, and it did that job well. It brought people into Plymouth showrooms for a look, and they left driving Plymouth cars. And Chrysler sold all the Prowlers they produced. There was a waiting list the entire time they were in production. I know someone who was on that list. And I'd buy one today. There are plenty available, many with low to no miles on eBay, The problem is that they've held their value too well for me!

Just Google : " Model cars as art "

The Mitsubishi Eclipse would've been so much cooler as the Zero! Guess they wouldn't dare use it! -

Decades of Decal "What The"s
Tom Geiger replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did reverse decals on the Chevette project. I made the Ramapo College decal on the rear window. I reversed the logo by scaling it in the negative -100,-100 in Word. That flipped it around. The ying and yang decal on the side window came out of a Revell kit. I soaked it in water until the glue was all gone, then set it out to dry. I used canopy cement to glue it face down to the inside of the glass. Worked out well, if only I had cut it close to get rid of that clear halo around it! -

From an earlier trip to the same place.. lotsa VWs around this place! The kinda guy who repairs customers cars outside in the weather because he's restoring a couple oval windows in the garage! -
Easy... Scenes From An Italian Restaurant... Brenda and Eddie... Bill Joel

there are a few dinosaurs in the modeling community. about five of them that had a hissy fit when we stopped mailing a four page show flyer, instead sending out a postcard directing people to our website for information. Cost savings over a thousand dollars!

Decades of Decal "What The"s
Tom Geiger replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that you mention it... the thing that puzzled me was all those neat travel and surf decals for the windows are printed POSITIVE and put on the outside of the glass, per the kit. Shouldn't they have been printed BACKWARDS so you could put them on the inside of the glass like the real ones? No issue with me, I used mine on the outside metal of my old Dodge van camper.. There are a few others mixed in there too... they did take Testors Dullcote fine. -
I like foiling. There is no single act of modeling that brings the most positive change on a model with that little effort! I actually find it relaxing.
