  1. A freind who works with plexi in his art projects made me a replacement pickguard for one of my basses. The stuff is available in many colors, even black. You could also go with clear, as you mentioned, kind of similar to some Danelectro instruments.
  2. I grew up in the 80s, but many of those are not very fond memories for me. I was a real outcast. The closest thing around to "rock" was the hair bands, and they just didn't speak to me. Because of that, I gravitated to rap and hip-hop, when it wasn't quite so accepted for a white kid to like it. My dad had gotten me a subscription to Car Craft magazine when I started expressing an interest in that kind of thing. Almost every single car was a bright, day-glo thing, but back then I ate it up. I guess the nineties would be the time that hold the most nostalgia for me. It wasn't until the early part of the decade, when I entered college, that I started to find myself (still haven't finished yet, LOL). I didn't like the direction hip hop was going at the time. I was introduced to grunge music, like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots, which I thought was much more real and honest than the stuff the hair bands had been doing. That was also the time I learned of industrial music, via bands like Nine Inch Nails. In sophomore year, I met the woman I would fall in love with and eventually marry. She introduced me to thrash metal. I started learning to play bass, and by the late nineties I started writing and recording my own music. I just wish I knew some of the things back then that I know now.
  3. I admit to having a bad knee-jerk reaction to conspicuous consumption, like people spending $980K on an electric supercar just to say they can. However, it's because of the early adopters of any technology, those that are willing and able to pay a premium price, that more capital goes into the refinement of the technology, allowing it to eventually become easy enough to produce that the "masses" can afford it. I hope the same can be said for workable electric vehicles.
  4. Hi Christian, Do you think you could provide some background on these items? Unfortunately, I can't read German. Thanks much! EDIT: Nevermind, some quick Googling actually pointed me to a good source. Should have tried that before asking. Thanks!
  5. Excellent job, Fred. I personally love the Cyber Formula cars.
  6. I've ordered from Hobbysearch a few times, with no real issues.
  7. Having worked in customer service in a couple of different environments, I have had to deal with most of the personalities mentioned above. I have horror stories. I have had to deal with customers who were irate, mean, entitled, poorly informed, unbalanced and less than brilliant. I have also had to deal with customer service people who were some or all of those things. When I go out to eat, I am always respectful to the hostess/maitre'd, the wait staff and the busboys. I always say please and thank you. Yet, every once in a while I have to deal with someone who is at best, incompetent, and at worst, going out of their way to let you know they don't want to be bothered. When I go shopping, I treat the sales people with respect. I always thank them for their offers of assistance, even if I don't need help at the moment. Yet, every once in a while I have to deal with someone who goes out of their way to ignore me, or feels the need to be condescending. When I go shopping, I greet the cashier with a smile, and ask how they are doing. I always thank them when they have finished ringing me up. Yet, sometimes I get somebody who has a chip on their shoulder from the word go, and makes it clear they don't think they should be expected to do the job they are getting paid for. This is not just me looking at myself in the best light, as I have seen these things happen to other customers who were behaving perfectly respectfully. I am always more likely to give the benefit of the doubt to someone in customer service over the customer. However, just as with most other things in life, the truth tends to be found somewhere in the middle.
  8. I belong to a sci-fi modeling forum where this subject comes up at least a couple times a year. I always get a dream where I find a hobby shop with kits of every subject I ever wanted to build. I'll walk out of the store to get cash, or to tell a friend. When I go back, the store I was just in is nowhere to be found. The one time I dreamed that I actually managed to get some models from the disappearing hobby shop, the dream ended with my friend and I being hunted by ninjas and demons.
  9. Back when my wife and I were still boyfriend / girlfriend, I would come visit her in her neighborhood. A bodega we would stop in for sodas actually had a couple of model kits on the shelves. This was in the mid 90's. We also took a trip to Mystic, CT back in the late 90's, and we visited the Mystic Aquarium. The gift shop actually had a resin garage kit of a deep sea submersible. I picked one up, and later sold it off when I lost interest in the vehicle.
  10. I think that's why most people are using older, fully analog cars for their builds. Even without an EMP, you probably wouldn't want to be riding anything that required a computer to run. You may not have the necessary tools or expertise to fix the electronics, leaving you stuck if something conks out.
  11. It's a short trip for me, so I plan to be there.
  12. Joe, I have also added a 1966 or 67 Mini Cooper to my builds. Thanks for your efforts in keeping this list!
  13. Nice work on all. I love the Limo and "Geoffrey."
  14. A gentleman on a sci-fi modeling board turned one into a Star Trek ship: http://www.inpayne.com/models/kitbash/trekpage_shuttle_exec.html
  15. Nice work, Walter! The homemade Dalek is a great touch.
  16. I like your work on the truck, but I have to say the above description is absolutely brilliant. It sounds kind of like something Doctor Who would say really fast.
  17. I hope you recover fully and quickly, Rick.
  18. I just picked up something to add to the madness. My 68 Dart will be used in what used to be called the U.S., and I now also have a Morris Mini Cooper Rally for use by survivors across the pond. Some of the survivors have moved into the London Underground, and are using small cars like Mini's for patrols, above-ground scouting and transportation through the tunnels. They have built ramps, automatic gates and checkpoints to allow survivors easy access, while keeping the undead hordes out.
  19. Darin, Words seem so useless at a time like this. Just know that you have my deepest sympathy.
  20. Hi Wayne. Welcome aboard. I found plans for a homemade spray booth on another site. I plan to build my own as soon as I have the space for it. http://www.starshipm...ch/pa_booth.htm Please read the whole page, as they discuss possible explosion hazards from using a bathroom fan. You may want to use a squirrel cage or HVAC exhaust fan instead.
  21. What about a darker metal color? Maybe Testors Metallizer burnt iron, magnesium or dark andonic gray?
  22. I don't know yet if I will be going with rust on this one. It will definitely be banged up and dirty, but right now I think the people using it would be really careful to keep it in good working order, like by keeping rust from taking hold, since cars and replacement parts for them would be really scarce. Of course, that can change, as I see more of the model take shape.
