What do you use as primer?
groo12 replied to groo12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This question was actually prompted because I went to buy a can of Citadel Black primer and was told it was $27.00. I nearly fell over. I politely told the guy I didn't have enough and left. Way too much $$$, it's good but not that good. -

I'll try Bunnings and see if they have it. Thanks for the replies. This forum is awesome and full of people who know stuff and who aren't afraid to share it! -
The couple of kits I have built, all seem to require a lot of parts to be painted black. What I have been doing is undercoating with white, then spraying black. I do this because the paint doesn't stick very well especially on the chassis, which gets a lot of handling. I figured if I just undercoated (primered) with black, it would save a lot of time and fiddling. What primer do people use? For white and grey I use Tamiya rattle cans. I tried some grey Badger which sprayed beautifully, but reacted with Tamiya paints or Tamiya reacted with it, so I have stopped using it. I guess I am looking for a slightly cheaper option than Tamiya, if available. If not I'll buy some Tamiya black primer.

Very nice. Great to see a commodore. Pity there's not more available.

Possibly a stupid question, why are the wheels on an angle? (I may have mentioned before I'm not mechanically minded, with cars at least)

Guess who's got a new light tent?

In hindsight that shot is under exposed. -
Guess who's got a new light tent?
groo12 replied to groo12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first setup was some desk lamps and baking paper for diffusing. I have seen YouTube how tos but time is an issue and room so I went the convenience factor. I'll try some different settings on my camera to lighten them up, I think I relied too much on the viewfinder and not enough on the histogram, which I am just coming to grips with. Should help with all my pics. I haven't taken any offence to anything of the suggestions/feedback, this is how I learn. I'll post some better pics in the next few days. -
That looks fantastic. I now know the engine fit issues weren't me. I think I am going to have to build another one of these.

Kit price @ hobby lobby
groo12 replied to s10chevypu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here in oz, a Revell kit sells for anywhere between 42 and 65 dollars, depending on where you shop. I tend to order all of mine via mail order or Ebay. -
Guess who's got a new light tent?
groo12 replied to groo12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is what it looks like: The lights are 650 watts equivalent compact fluros, balanced at 5500, so daylight basically. The tent itself is 80 cm square. It came with 4 different colored backdrops. The light stands are really cool are really adjustable. I even had one sitting on the table today, pointing down over the tent. I am very happy with it and look forward to learning how to use it really effectively. amd the whole thing folds up to be quite small, so it is portable. -

I am doing a photography course, this weeks assignment was to setup a 'product shot'. i thought what a perfect opportunity to play! I picked the setup off Ebay for around $80.00, awesome value. I love doing macro, so it will be good for that and as a bonus the lights work well for portraits, which was the assignment a fortnight ago. I'll take a pic of it and post as well. -

That's right, it's me! This was my first play with it. What do you think? -

Groo is a cartoon character, that I love, it is groo12 because the first 11 were taken. My picture is a self protrait of me reflected in a hot rod hubcap, which is a bit arty and goes with my photography hobby. -

That looks absolutely Awesome. Now I have to buy that kit as well. -
Beautiful car. That's where the steering wheel should be! Very nerve racking visiting and driving on the wrong side of the road AND the wrong side of the car, takes a lot of concentration.

I just love making stuff, being creative. I paint miniatures, take photos, develop elearning for a living which includes some coding and that is surprisingly creative. I want to create apps and take up woodwork. I took up model cars because it just looked like fun and it is. So no really specific reason apart from enjoying making.

That's cool. I'll keep a lookout for nail polish. Thanks.

Very nice. What is the yellow?

Simply awesome. My kit arrived earlier this week and I washed it today. Need to finish some others first, but I am little stuck on each one. Having fun though...

Having just said that, I went and checked my finished model posts and I forget to say comments welcome on the last two. I'll try to remember it for the future. But thatdidn't stop some people and I found those comments helpful and will use the advice for future builds.

I would hope people are being honest about my builds, it's the only way I am going to learn. It's like any feedback , it needs to be honest to be helpful, friends always tell me my photos are great, that's nice, just not helpful. Although I have to admit, I usually know where the faults are, it's still good to get a second or third opinion. Having said all that, I don't feel as if I am experienced enough yet, to post feedback on other peoples builds, unless it is really obvious.
