I've found the Testors lacquer primer is plenty able to handle automotive paints. I've used Duplicolor paints on 3 kits now and they've all come out really well. Make sure you're using a primer specifically for lacquers or the whole thing will craze.

I'd venture to guess licensing is probably one of the bigger hurdles. Even though these are older tools, I'm sure the manufacturers want their share of the profits before any kits are ever sold.

I like it, overall. The wheels and tires are fine. Personally, I get tired of the big,goofy billet pro touring look on everything. Good looking vehicle.

We went through this about 6 months ago. My wife and I came home and found our back door kicked in. We found that the thieves had taken both of our laptops, both digital cameras, a portable hard drive that had backups of my music (main library is on the desktop that they didn't touch), and assorted jewelry including a fairly valuable ring. I ended up taking the next day off work to settle with the insurance company. Hopefully your insurance will come through like ours did. We reported the break-in on thursday and I had a check in my hand for the settlement on saturday. I still haven't replaced my digital camera, and the jewelry was irreplaceable, but it was just stuff. Unfortunately it was the second time we've been broken into, so our sense of safety is shot. As soon as we can, we're going to move. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. Hopefully you and your family are okay.

Planning to be there. Oh, finished the build of the Trumpeter Monte last night except for the PE details. There's still some issues, like the inner fender wells show at the edges of the fender openings a little and it has the stance of a truck. But I'm still mostly happy with it. Since the car it's depicting was a disaster in real life, I'll accept it.

quick question. How much does the whole piece weigh so far. I know aluminum's light, but it's still gotta be heavier than the original kit engine.

Yup, it's the VW van. I've seen a couple of people on here that have done improved hinges for the doors like that type of van, so that shouldn't be too bad. I'd already planned on replacing the goofy CB insignia on the nose. Might see what it would look like without it, or I'll scratch build one. I'm also planning on replacing the wheels and tires.

I'm in the same boat. I got out for about 20 years and just recently got back into building cars. There's a lot to learn, but I'm having more fun than ever.

Personally, I like the whitewalls.

MCG generally includes a set or two on each fret. I've got PE sets for the 60 pontiac, 53 ford and 77 Monte Carlo and they all came with keys. I'm just not bored enough to use them yet.

The Lil' Coffin is a finicky kit. It's really nifty looking once it's together, though. I need to get another one of those. Revell is doing a reissue of the Boot Hill Express, hopefully they'll do that one as well.

Okay, I'm probably beating a dead horse here but I think I'm done building Trumpeter kits. The Bonneville wasn't bad other than some little detail issues and was pretty decent overall. There were some things that were chromed that shouldn't have been, and some that weren't chromed that should have been, but overall not terrible. The 78 Monte Carlo, on the other hand, is an abomination. The engine/transmission was so poorly designed that it was completely unusable. The interior was okay except for the dash, which was as bad as the engine. I swapped engine, exhaust, dash and steering column and parts of the frame from the Revellogram 86 Monte Carlo SS. I've got the chassis in the body now, but it doesn't go in correctly and leaves about 1/8 to 1/16 of the inner front fender well sticking out below the fender openings. I'm going to try and adjust the fit to see if it'll go in there better. And it's got a stance like a 4x4, even without the goofy little tires.
