Models in the movies
Edsel-Dan replied to ReptileGuy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember reading or seeing many of those Independence day models being sold. -
Except for the Convertible & Hardtop versions of their Annuals, AMT's Kits most likely did not share tooling between different body style cars of the same vintage/year untill the 64 El Camino & Mailbu Wagon kits. We can see that in the re-issues of the 65's which is what became of the 64's!! Engine, Chassis and Chrome tree are shared. Body, & Interior are different between the 2 kits. How many parts are shared between the Original AMT 60 Impala Hardtop/Convertible and the El Camino or Wagon?? Remember, the Wagon was Only a Promo in 60 too! It came out as a Kit in 62-63 in the Junior Trophy Series Also, Did the 63 Nova/Chevy2 Wagon share any parts with the Hardtop/Convertible??

Vintage fire engine WIP
Edsel-Dan replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
For more info on Wooden Ladders check out San Fransisco FD. They STILL USED Wooden Ladders only a few years ago!!! And they are Serial Numbers I believe Ladder #1 is Still in use!!!! However, They last master carpenters who repair & maintain them were past retirement age!! So, Are they Still using them now, or are they having to replace them with Steel, Aluminum, Fiberglass or other material??? I do love this!! I always wanted that larger copy of the Dennis, but think I will stick to Smaller builds now!! -
Ertl offered a Diecast nascar cup car of this era Impala/Caprice. Ready to display/Play with, and even kit Richard Petty's 43 or DW's 88 Gatorade were the only 2 versions offered. I have the Kit version of th e88!! It did not have the "Fishbowl" rear window, though I think when used on track they DID!! Aerodynamics! This is what Modelhaus used to make the Impala/Caprice sedan!!

1914 Dennis fire truck
Edsel-Dan replied to Harry P.'s topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful. I have 2 of th e1/32 of this Engine. Will likely use your Wip for info on the restoration of my original build, and twin. -
The AMT Connoisseur Classics issues are the Old MPC kits. They were issued After Ertl bought MPC, and started Dropping the MPC name. I have the 3 kits from th e series. The good part was that all the "Gangbuster" parts were added back Except in th eChevy! None were returned. The Panel body was butchered we know. But, What happened to the Police motorcycle and other parts? Sawhorse barricades, Guns, Gangsters/police figures, etc?? Yes the Hot-rod/hop up parts were there, but no Gangbuster parts. The Lincoln & Imperial has all those parts back. Figures, Guns, Booze bottles/flasks, Hand grenades, Violin case, And more! All missing were th eoriginal sdecals for the Cash & jewelery cases!! The MPC Connoisseur Classics issue from the early 70's did not have any of those parts! I have the Lincoln Radster/Cabriolet that I started restoring when I got the Sport Touring. I even have a couple of the Chrysler Touring Molded in black. One in original Gangbuster's box, and another in th e"Bloody Momma" box From the Movie Bloody Momma about Ma Barker and her sons!! Guns, Safe, Jewels, Cash & Decals are there!! Wasn't some one going to resin cast that Stock Panel ?? Wish they would!

I need to replace the Chrome spears in the insert, And the insert surround!!! The surround is not too hard. But the spears!!!!!!!! I think the script are salvageable (at least I hope so Been a while since I examined her!) -

Edsel-Dan replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
What About Michael's?? I think they had the 77 Tow Truck snap kit. I will try to watch there too. Wish H-L had opened in my area back when they had the LA County Fire Department Wrecker. I would have bought a few! But, It Was Higher Priced than this is suppose to be too. That did not help sales!!!! -

Help with kit Identifying
Edsel-Dan replied to my80malibu's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I can't see the pic's and get a "You Do Not Have permission" when I click on them. Yet, I AM logged in!! Don Loomis had the Bus body in his catalog too. Offered me one to replace a Chopped one in an Original kit I have. Did not want it due to his being Left drive while the Japanese kits are All Right-drive!! I have 3 different issues of the Isuzu BXD-30 Bonnet Bus. They are Curbside Promos!!!!!!! -

Electra 225 Chrome Issues ?
Edsel-Dan replied to Pete L.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have 2 of the 62 Electra 225 Pro-Shop & Retro Deluxe. Neither have any chrome issues. Only kit I have with that is the Trumpeter 60 Bonneville. 3 chrome trees. 2 Matt finish and one Gloss, but BLUE/Dark tint!!!! -
I have several of th e1/48 scale cars, and thought they were good for the size. In fact, the metal axles in those kits with them were Much finer than the axles AMT offered in their 1/43 kits!! I have built 2 57 T-Bird, Stanley Steamer, Model A Roadster/convertible, Indy/F-1 Race car Jaguar XKE, 31 Cadillac, Duesenberg I did not like the Revell re-issue of the 30's Classic's as they were not molded in color or did not match the color on the box like the Original Renwal boxed kits did I started buying them in "Nichol's Department store in 74-5 era as I recall. The 57 T-Bird even had separate red tail lights for the Chrome bezels NONE of AMT's 1/43 had that!!!

roof mount light bars
Edsel-Dan replied to Tesla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was. Should still be. But very difficult to work with as air bubbles will show Much more in clear than none-transparent resins. And, actually, that MX Is a decent lightbar for a towtruck. It can be painted as an All light bar. You can also look at the Code3 bars in the Ecto-1A kit. That one also has a Whelan Edge bar, but is a single chrome piece. Find Early Jo-Han police Fury, or the Yodel Monaco/Fury and use the twin rotator rack with a Spot light in the center. Tint the dome caps Amber/yellow. (Early issued of the Jo-Han kit have Painted red & blue lenses, so you can strip them to clear!!) MPC's 70-74 Annual 1/20 Ford Econoline van kit had a Gumball too, and actually closer to 1/25 scale than 1/20 (Or a Very Small one) with a Clear cap Both the Midnite Cowby, and recently re-issued 77 Chevy/GMC Snap tow truck have a Twinsonic type lightbar The soon to be re-issued "Cop Out" Duster funny car has a Mars twin rotator light rack that can also be used. Dome caps or lens surfaces of rotator lamps can be painted/tinted amber rear of double ended flashers on th erack between rotators and Siren speaker location can be done in amber front and red for brake lights, or white for Spot lights/scene lights to the rear. The Streethawk from Revell's 90-91 Caprice can also be used. Any Emergency lightbar/light can be used! Just paint/tint the cap(s) or lenses Amber. Especially After 65 or so. Unless you are building a Police or Fire Department piece. Then they Can have red or Blue lights AND Sirens!!! Look at LA City Fire for proof of that!!! AMT's up coming Rescue issue of the Chevy van should include Amber flasher domes. The original issue did!! Same are in most AMT Semi kits now!!! Is that enough info/ideas for now?? -
History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The "Rolling Thunder version of MPC's Longbox Stepside is evidently the Rarest version of that kit. I have the 74 issue showing a Gold built with the Motorcycle, and 'Heavy Pedal' black built on the box. Rolling Thunder is Blue, and includes the "Sleeper Box" behind the cab. I too wish Moebius, or some one else would do a new Modern tooling of this era Chevy/GMC pickup series! And Yes, Many have the Same side trim over all years. Interior is the same too. Though Some issues have an arm rest, or center seat, while others don't I would be very happy to have the 72 re-issued again as it was last time. It has gotten So expensive for such a Recent & Common kit!!!!! -
Amt '66 Riviera: your input, please
Edsel-Dan replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
NO. This was when AMT was issuing Separate Stock, and Custom/Lowrider, etc kits The Lowrider had Only Lowrider suspension. I do not know how many Custom engine parts were included. I never kept any of the ones I got. Only the Stock. I Would love to find a few sets of those "Twin-White Stripe" tires from the Stock 66 Riv kit!! -
I had to re-scribe the trim on mine too I used a dial set compass/divider with 2 points. Set it to the correct width, set the long point against the edge, and drug it along the fender letting th e shaper point Deepen the scribe line of the trim. JUST Make sure to keep it Straight!!!!

How's This for a Yardsale Find?
Edsel-Dan replied to Edsel-Dan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
me too!! All I have in Kit of this era Chevy van is the OLD Mini-Lindy Matchbox/Hot Wheels size kit from Lindberg!!! Not been issued in a LONG time. Wonder if any of those Mini-Lindy's will get re-issued now by Round2. -
I found this 67 Chevy Van Bank at a large yardsale MANY years ago, and forgot about it, till I opened a box last night and saw it again. I took pic's just a little while ago, and uploaded them to Photobucket. Sadly, though Close, it is Smaller than 1/25 scale. Also due to the design, would be Difficult to resin cast. What do you think. This door cut open makes resin copying More difficult. This picture shows the Original Dealer Sticker Still in place!! I was surprised to find a Different meaning/Translation of the dealer's Name!! I found it in a Song or 2!! (Later Zul Je Lachen for one!!!!) Yes I Erased the Phone Number. Just in case it Might still be Active. And to avoid Spamming the owner of it!! Wish I had one not cut open! I have never seen another. How many here have seen one??
